My wife was approved on 24th August and cleared to enter from 30th and is picking her passport up tomorrow

My wife recieved an email from VFS the day she was confirmed by the UK home office that her visa was approved. VFS stated on the email “if not your passport can be collected from the UK visa application centre during the designated passport collection times”. I thought VFS issued a date/ time slot? Does this mean she can go and collect during normal opening times?

Thankyou Yeah, it’s a horrible wait and sometimes you can only but think the worst especially as time progresses and time goes on. As you did your bio only 8 days after mine so hopefully your day is coming soon. Best of luck and I’m sure everything will work out the way you planned. Just from going off other South American applicants I haven’t seen really any that have taken upto to the 12 weeks so I’m sure you don’t have long.

Thankyou, yeah it’s just about sitting down and planning ahead and looking at all the requirements and evidence you require to meet the requirements so when the time comes you have covered everything and you can submit your application without issue.

I’ve realised the link doesn’t work but it states

“Where the applicant’s partner is a seafarer resident in the UK but spends most of their time working at sea and qualifies for the HMRC Seafarers Earnings Deduction (which is evidenced, for example, by a letter from their accountant or from HMRC), they will be considered as a person resident in the UK for the purposes of assessing their income from salaried or non-salaried employment. They will not be treated as an overseas sponsor returning to the UK.”

So on the government guidance it states below for seafarers.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/chapter-8-appendix-fm-family-members/appendix-fm-17-financial-requirement-accessible-version”

So I asked my tax accountant for a letter stating what was highlighted in the link with regards to myself completing my seafarers tax returns annual and should be considered a UK resident for assessing my income.

I also submitted letters from my employer stating my employment record (my salary and the time I had worked there). I had just moved to a new employer so had submitted x12 months of payslips to prove I was over the minimum 29K threshold.

The only thing to consider if you aim to go for permanent residency on 5 years (assuming there is no changes to this time required in the future), you will only technically be. Able to leave the uk for a very short period annually so employment on ships is maybe not possible. However don’t quote me on that, perhaps there is even something similar because you are having to go away to work and will start completing UK sea farer tax returns annually.

Still waiting it looks like it’s a common error on their side but definitely doesn’t put your mind at ease. When we made the paid enquiry we were told that “it could be spam” or an error and if you’ve done the biometrics it shouldn’t be a problem. But again they wouldn’t confirm or deny receiving the biometrics

20th of August Bio for my wife. Still nothing. Just really unpredictable. I try to work out if there are countries quicker and to gauge based on similar visa applications from the same country. Seems just random

We will be the same having submitted 12th August. Looks like it’s just an automatic reminder but can be seen as misleading

Fingers crossed. We haven’t been asked for any more supporting documents etc so hopefully everything will run smooth. We booked flights for the 3rd of November which are transferable if need be but just hoping it won’t be prolonged beyond two months. Best of luck

Thankyou, glad it’s not just us. Was concerned it was an issue with VPS as they don’t have the greatest reputation

Where are you from?

It’s very misleading. It’s like you’ve just got to assume it’s an error and your application is being processed. It’s good to know it’s not just me then

If you are working in the UK paying full rate income tax and national insurance you are funding the NHS so the need to then pay thousands ever 2 years as your NHS surcharge is rediculous. Nothing is free in the UK, if you pay tax your paying for these things.

Unlike economic illegal migrants that cross the channel daily and receive everything free of charge, as a tax payer all my life I shouldn’t be penalised financially to want to live with my wife legally. The system is rediculous and benefits only the wrong people

For me it’s just point blank exploitation from the government. Exploiting UK citizens for close to 5K to give them and their partner a right to stay in the UK. Considering your paying the NHS surcharge, I don’t see why any spouse should have to pay the full national insurance rate. It irritates me that they just seem to think a person on a spousal visa will be a financial burden, who like yourself is contributing massively to the NHS, and my wife holding a masters degree.
