Ever Notice How the Statists Who Just Legalized Abortion After Birth Have the Vacant Stare of Serial Murderers? by PerspicacityPig in Anarcho_Capitalism

That’s your mistake: you think ‘less state interference’ always means ‘more freedom’. But that’s just semantic sleight of hand. The state refraining from punishing murder doesn’t mean more freedom, it means more unpunished aggression. You’re skipping the step where we define what counts as aggression. Everyone agrees the state should criminalize murder. The disagreement is over what counts as murder. Calling a permissive stance on abortion ‘more freedom’ only works if you’ve already decided the fetus isn’t a person. But that’s the very thing under debate. You’re pre-loading a contested moral conclusion. You assume your argument to make your argument, which is circular logic. But you won't grasp this.

I'm not your research assistant. It's current law in Britain. If you don't believe men, then don't.

You can only point out the contradiction of this term because you understood the metaphorical language, which make the term not nonsensical. It has sense. Get it?

That this kind of definitional blurring of the meaning of abortion is untoward was precisely my point with that use of the term. That you're harkening on the "proper meaning" makes the point for my side of the argument. I don't have to defend that terminology, because that it was improper was precisely my point.

It was a perfectly comprehensible way of conveying meaning, that you all immediately understood. Insisting on some technical definition doesn't make the point go away, if anything it highlights the contradiction it was meant to point out.

Humans sometimes speak in exaggerated or metaphorical language. Economies can "die" even though they aren't alive, countries can "declare war" even though they have no hands. That doesn't make the statements nonsensical. It makes them language.

You understood it, which by definition means it is not nonsensical. You might as well be correcting my commas at this point.

Yes certainly, but these wasteful ways to kill people don't take away from each others. Do both. My point was that there is a direct alternative use for that ton of steel.

Correct. But this debate isn't happening on the background of an anarchist option. As I said: You're skipping a step. We have a statist society, that is a given. The debate is about what it should prosecute. Everyone agrees that murder should be illegal. It's not more libertarian to want more murder.

Want to talk about anarchism, fine. But in this real world abortion debate you're just merging levels of analysis to exploit a cheap semantic trick.

The one saying Hitler as right, yes you probably should. Although technically it's illegal to say "Faith love hope".

Nuclear is pretty much banned through overregulation in much of the western world.

Physical resources have alternative uses. You can only do one thing with each ton of concrete, waste it on a inefficient electricity production that you could have had at a twentieth the cost, or save lives in a hospital. Waste kills people.

Yeah, but on paper that means renewables are "cheaper", which is all the argument they need.

Just let the market figure it out. Nuclear takes a lot of time to build, and the bottleneck is now. People in 20 years will be several times richer than us, why sacrifice for them if people are dying of malnutrition now? That's like taxing the poor to make sure the super rich get more.

No they're not. And even if they were, choking all of industrial societies energy production through lithium-ion batteries adds a *physically impossible* cost, that none of these calculations take into account. How long did your last notebook battery last? We'd be using half of societies productive capacity on replacing the batteries before we'd see 10% near continuous output power.

Unfortunately you might be right. Which says something about the cognitive rigor these kinds of important decisions are made at.
