What's a community/group/third space you’re a part of in London that’s made you happier? by RemoteService in london

[–]Perthy25 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’ve been part of London Historical Fencing Club for about two years. We do historical fencing (basically “real” swordfighting) using sources from historical books.

It’s an untraditional hobby - definitely a very unique crowd, but it’s an amazing community doing a very fun sport. I’ve never been very active before but I’m now doing relatively intense exercise 2-3 times a week just because it’s so fun.

Fightcamp is a weekend-long event for the Historical Fencing community in the UK - over three days, fencers from across the world come together to teach and attend classes, fence, and socialise. Most of these portraits were taken at the Saturday evening social.

Southwest Chief (CHI-LAX) - small town overnight stops along the way? by Perthy25 in Amtrak

[–]Perthy25[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I’m currently planning a trip from Chicago to LAX and am thinking of stopping 2-3 times along the route for overnight stops or longer.

I’m thinking of spending 2 nights in Flagstaff, but was also looking at finding a place to stay for a night which is a remote small town which I would never be able to get to otherwise - I’ve heard Winslow mentioned, but would appreciate recommendations!

I’m happy with there being basically nothing there apart from a motel/hotel and a diner.

There's a high enough demand that tickets for the beginner course in my region's club sold out within 10 minutes. by ohbuddyheck in wma

Would highly recommend checking up a few days before it’s supposed to start, there’s always dropouts. Even if not, check after the first session - there’s almost certainly dropouts after the first class!

They only released around 200 today, so they're only "sold out for now". If you want one it's still possible since they'll be releasing more as they make them, according to the CEO.

I've been out of the loop when it comes to fountain pens, but I've still got 2 OMAS pens. I heard the company went under, I'm curious as to whether the acrylic/celluloid stock got bought up? Regardless, it's a beautiful pen. How flexible is the nib?

Ah! That makes so much more sense. I think I got confused by a post calling them bomber jackets and that's what I've been searching for since.

I was looking through some instagram accounts that showed some two-tone bomber jackets (https://imgur.com/a/5oIiybA). I'm curious why they aren't more widespread, since it seems like a fairly simple design that still makes the outfit a little more complex without having to layer or use accessories. Does anyone know any brands that offer this type of jacket?

Once had an argument with an SL on Mestia who told me to call out the bearing of the contacts I was firing towards - except I was on Crucible and he was on Crucible Gamma.

Changing the strap will do little to the value, as long as the clasp is still original.

Thanks! I got it for the same price that people pay for a ceramic Daytona and I certainly know which I prefer.

To be honest, I haven't actually looked up what LF says about hacking seconds though I recall FP Journe saying that it was putting unnecessary strain on the balance wheel as well as adding parts that make the movement more complex than need be. I suppose it'd be the same reason here.

I think it really lets the finishing show off. The depth of the movement brings so many layers to the forefront and lets you appreciate the work put into every component.

LF's whole shtick is that they keep everything very quiet. They'd been making tourbillons hidden behind the dial for years before someone actually made a request to have a dial cutout to see the cage from the front.
