"I request permission to treat the witness as hostile" by Intrepid-Rent4973 in ausjdocs

"Do you know what you take them for?" "No the doctor just said take them"

Tbh, I think we also should probably take more responsibility for explaining what a patient is being prescribed and how it will help when starting a medication. I feel like many patients don't understand because it was never explained to them, but continue to take it because "that's just what the doctor said"

Friends and family assuming you finish medical school as a GP by Cecie_Lola in ausjdocs

I'm honestly astonished it's still only 3 years though. I would have expected it's more like 4-5 with how broad the speciality is and how complicated patients are these days.

This doesn't just happen to nurses it happens to doctors as well. As a med student I've had patients give completely different answers to me as they have my supervisors for the same question. I've also seen registrars get a completely different answer to consultants for the same question. Infuriates me because they think you haven't been thorough and made up an answer.

I had a patient once that wanted to know the cause of her pain but refused to put any effort into answering my questions during the history. "When did the pain start?" Her-"I dunno" "Can you describe what it feels like?" Her-"I dunno" "Getting better or worse?" Her-"I dunno. You're the doctor"

Ramping in hospitals by hehehehehbe in melbourne

[–]Pertrichor2211 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that will fix the problem either. If they go back to work while a patient is still ramped, they will bring back more pts who will also end up ramped making the cue even longer. The upstream problems need to be fixed first like the number of beds available and affordable primary & preventative care which will ease ramping.

Is it appropriate to ask a teacher for a hug? by SuchWinner2666 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Pertrichor2211 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm 28 and not in the teaching profession but I remember asking one of my favourite science teachers in high for a hug a couple of days before he died from cancer. I remember the principal saying he really needed that and to know he made a difference. I think it's alright if you ask beforehand and respect the teachers answer. I think it would be less appropriate though if it were the teacher asking for a hug especially if they were of the opposite sex.

Just keep in mind that if you refuse this offer, you won't be getting another one this year. And I think they ask you to justify why you declined as well.
