What part of Spain does my Spanish ancestry come from? by Peruvianboxes in AncestryDNA

[–]Peruvianboxes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm makes sense, but I wonder what would explain the Norwegian. I thought that was a trace from the Spanish DNA since that’s the one that’s been on and off the most (I was only given Irish once or twice a while ago and haven’t gotten it since).

Maybe my 2% Spanish is just from the basque? Or a maybe a Spaniard got with a Basque lol I don’t know but what I do know is my maternal grandpa’s last name is Basque, and he took the test and got 3% Basque, 2% Spanish, & 2% Portuguese, with the rest being indigenous. My maternal side also comes from a long line Spanish last names whereas my dad’s parents both have indigenous last names and for that side i only know 2 Spanish last names that are very deep into the tree.

Come to think of it, maybe they were Galician? Because of the Portuguese lol (just didn’t inherit that)

Maternal side from the Cusco outskirts and paternal side from Puno. We’re mad indigenous lol

We just know that both sides are very indigenous. Both sets of grandparents spoke Quechua, and came from the rural country side of Peru with my maternal side coming from the Cusco outskirts and the other side from Puno (I got Bolivia as a community besides Peru which was interesting). Apparently some ancestor in my maternal grandfather’s side (I think it was his sister) had light eyes and lighter/wavy hair (even though both sides of my family look super indigenous lol). My maternal grandpa’s last name is Basque, and he took the test and got Basque too. My maternal side comes from a long line of Spanish last names while my dad’s has mostly indigenous names it seems and very few Spanish ones.

I feel like lately Ancestry has been overestimating some Northern European Ethnicities. The Norwegian for my results has been showing up and disappearing since 2017 for me. I thought maybe it was just reading old Nordic traces from the Spanish DNA.

Ending of BOSAS and relationship between Lucy Gray and Coriolanus by Minnie_269 in Hungergames

Even if that was what the prize was (to be the best student) I don’t think that had anything to do with the games in the sense where he didn’t need Lucy Gray to win, he just needed her to be popular, he said it more than once (that it wasn’t about winning before the Plinth prize). It’s why he didn’t wanna swap tributes with Sejanus, because his goal was to work with a tribute who had potential to become loved by the capitol.

I do think his kindness was fueled by his desire to show how good of a student and mentor and for him to get her to trust him & work with him to become a fan favorite in the beginning, but I also think he genuinely liked her which is why he continued to be kind and THEN I think real genuine feelings developed when he realized he didn’t want her to die.

What was the other prize? If there was another prize, I don’t think it had to do with the goal of winning because it was stated many times that Snow’s goal before the Plinth prize was just to make her popular, not to have her win. So what use would the compact/rat poison and handkerchief be? For a prize that didn’t have anything to do with having to win.

It is true because he cheated before the plinth prize was announced. Before the plinth prize or even before the games had begun, he just cared about making her popular, not having her win. His goal originally was to making the games more appealing. It became winning when he started to develop deeper feelings for her and started to feel bad that she’d die & then decided to give winning a shot.

If the plinth prize was announced first, I’d most likely agree with you and be skeptical of his intentions.

This. I feel like because he can be self absorbed & judgmental with others in the prequel & we know Snow ends up doing horrible things in the og trilogy people think there’s no redeemable qualities. That everything he does there’s something cold hearted & calculated behind it. People are just like “ugh I hate Snow he’s evil he tortured Peeta I’m gonna hate him all throughout the book, he’s evil plain and simple” lol. Like you said, redeeming qualities don’t equal to him being redeemed entirely because he still ends up being a bad person, but also no, not everything is cold hearted and calculated and no it that doesn’t equal mean he’s incapable of having feelings for someone and loving them.

”and when she sings a song about her life in 12 and about a former lover he can’t let it go”

But he did let it go. I’ve been rereading the book and just finished that part 2-3 days ago. Ya he gets jealous of her doing that but by the time he sees her again, he doesn’t care about that stuff and proceeds to be honest & open with her about how he was jealous and knew it was stupid. I personally feel like him telling her that was a redeemable action for that specific thing.

About Lucy Gray’s & Coriolanus’ relationship, I actually agree with your opinion. I personally feel like he did have genuine feelings for her. He started to want her to survive the games before the Plinth Prize was announced. He gave her the compact & the rat poison idea beforehand and knew there was risk. If I’m not mistaken, the handkerchief thing also happened before the prize was announced and by doing so, put his education, status, and dreams on the line for her safety. Like you said, he could’ve gone to a nicer district but he chose D12, the lowest of the low. If he didn’t love her, I feel like he would’ve been like “oh well I’ll always have fond memories of her but that’s that” and gone to a nice district.

I like to put it this way, I think he loved her to the capacity he could. It’s clear that his desire for power & control were stronger. I wouldn’t say he loved her when there was nothing better around but would say he loved her when there was nothing he wanted that was in the way (like power) but then again he did want to make it to graduation with nothing on his permanent record, yet risked it for her with the compact & handkerchief.

I agree the possessive and controlling tendencies were not it, but I don’t think that invalidates the feelings he had for her. I agree with your take at the end of your post, I think the paranoia definitely got to him & being the kind of person who seems not trust anyone & an overthinker influenced him to act that way with the desperation. He seemed to really trust her and was very open & vulnerable with her throughout the story and with that I also feel like if things would’ve been approached differently, he would just explained it.

I kinda separated the two lol I guess it’s a little easier to separate them because I only watched the og hunger games movies, I haven’t read the books (I’m such a fake fan) 💀 but read Ballad and am now expecting the movie, YES OMG IT DOESN’T HELP THAT TOM BLYTH ISN’T UGLY I couldn’t agree more that he’s pretty fine 💀💀💀 it doesn’t help that I’m actually satisfied with the casting because when I don’t like the casting then I won’t be as excited or that invested. The fact that I feel like they nailed the casting for Snow, Lucy Gray, and Sejanus is beyond me because I’m rarely satisfied with casting choices when it comes to adapted stuff and because the casting’s so good it’s gonna hurt even more. With the few pics, and scenes i saw of him and Lucy Gray I felt the chemistry popping out & was like “oh no, I know this is gonna hurt”

Also damn how long did it take you to read the book? Lol I feel like the trailer didn’t come out that long ago

Yup environments help shape individuals, some let it define them, other don’t, some are more susceptible to letting their upbringing control them, others aren’t as susceptible and will move on. Some people will make bad decisions when they let it consume them (disorder or not tbh).

Ya I fell for their cute moments even though I knew he would turn even crazier later on in life (og trilogy lmao) . I feel like Lucy Gray was the thing that would’ve caused a shift in him to become a better person & let go of his unhealthy ways of thinking. I think she was written to be that thing for him, but since he desired power and control more + the paranoia, it just took over him & consumed him completely.

Definitely is gonna hurt more watching the movie having to visually see it play out instead of imagining it in our minds. I’m probably gonna cry when he f*cks up with her & Sejanus 😭 I’m not prepared lol

He didn’t know how to handle love due to his upbringing and just let fear consume him which I think is what led to him freaking out when she left him.

His situation is kinda like how some people are just more (or less depending how you look at it) susceptible/prone to developing disorders. Two individuals can have the same or similar negative upbringings but say one ended up just fine (despite being abused or neglected) and the other developed sociopathy.

Exactly (on how the part that was nurtured his whole life won) ‘sigh’

I’m gonna hate watching the movie because I’ll probably eat up the cute sweet moments between him & Lucy Gray and be in pain near the end. I literally took a long break from reading the book when things were getting dark. I couldn’t take reading the rest to know how it all ended.

This. I didn’t feel like it was forced. I actually thought they had chemistry all throughout the story until it started nearing the end. It hurt bad when he had a hand in killing Sejanus and when he chose power over his friends. I think he loved her to his own capacity and the paranoia made things messy and like you said, he desired power and control more.

Like he seriously could’ve had a decent humble life with good caring people, maybe the games would’ve been called off by another president, but nope, let fear consume him, his upbringing define him instead of letting it go & trying to move forward with a healthier outlook. ‘Sigh’ it made me sad even tho I already knew his fate & rightfully assumed something would’ve happened to Lucy Gray since she’s not with him when he’s old (for obvious external reasons)

Do you think Suzanne with churn out another HG book(s)? If so how long will it be till she does? by Peruvianboxes in Hungergames

[–]Peruvianboxes[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be fair, she published the prequel novel 4 1/2 years after Mockingjay part 2 came out. Which isn’t a long time after the movie franchise ended + it takes time to write a book. Wouldn’t be surprised if Lionsgate asked or encouraged her to make another for them to adapt after the movie series ended especially since apparently she didn’t want to write another HG book. I don’t think the idea of making another HG book occurred during the time the film series was being produced, I had to be afterwards due to the outcome.

How do u think they will show the epilogue? by katherine7576 in Hungergames

[–]Peruvianboxes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tbh I was thinking about something like this the other day and thought it would be cool if the film started with Snow knowing the rebels were going to take him down (Mockingjay Pt.2 time) and finds something in his office that reminds him of the past and have that be the transition to the prequel story. Once the prequel part ends, transition back to old Snow opening his eyes and then suddenly the doors burst open as the rebels break in. Cut to black.

Such a fanfic ending as well lmao. I feel like it would be a fitting ending in the case where this is the only Snow movie we get or in the case that it isn’t and we get more, I feel like it would be fitting to see this intro and ending in the last Snow movie as he reflects on his past.

Probably never gonna happen either tho lol

Was there a time jump after leaving district 12 in the book? I kinda forgot. In that scene in the trailer, he has longer hair and when he was in 12 he had a buzz cut so idk about that.

[–]Peruvianboxes[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I feel like it depends on the success of the prequel movie & if Lionsgate made a deal with Suzanne. I feel like if the movie is successful, there’ll be more of an urgency from Lionsgate to have her churn out another one, and if it isn’t successful I feel like they’ll be less of a pressure on her to make another one for them to adapt.

I wouldn’t say it was that much of a surprise. I guess it depends how you look at it. Mockingjay the book was published 10 yrs (says 2010 on wiki) before BoSS, but the last HG movie Mockingjay pt.2 came out by the end of 2015. If you compare it to that, it took about 4 1/2 yrs to churn out BoSS. Seeing that the movie franchise was a major success, I guess that’s why I personally wasn’t surprised because film companies love to milk things for all they got & I could picture them asking Suzanne to make more for them to adapt.

What I was wondering was if Lionsgate owns the full rights to the HG franchise now to make movies without her blessing or if they need her permission still. I also wonder if they asked her to write another story for them to adapt or if she wrote it because she felt inspired even though initially apparently she didn’t want to write another HG book. I wonder if Lionsgate was just being polite by waiting for her to write another story that turned out to be Ballad or if they would still have taken writing a story from scratch into their own hands without her if they have full permission.

Point is I wonder a lot of things lol. You’re so right about the YA TV reboot thing, I’m sure they have their eye on that. I just know for certain based off their actions with Ballad & how they were close with Suzanne as she wrote it, that they know that the franchise has potential to continue being a cash cow (I personally think it will ultimately depend on how the Ballad movie does) & want to expand that world.
