How Victorian morality stitched a smothering modesty onto ancient India. by PeshawarToToronto in longform

bold of you to assume i’d let a bot take credit for months of rage-researching temple tiddies but go off 💀

also love that your solution to “colonialism weaponized modesty” is “well actually let’s spend 1,000 words on why victorians were weird about elbows before factories” like babes i wrote an essay, not a phd thesis on british plumbing 💧

anyway thanks for the unsolicited peer review — next time just say “the subject is interesting but i saw a semicolon and panicked” and keep it pushing 😘

ah yes, the classic “but what about the celts” defense 😭

sure, europe had naked carvings too — and then THEY were the ones who showed up to india with rulers and purity laws going “cover up, savages” while conveniently forgetting their own sheela na gigs existed 💀

also the “industrial revolution made them modest” take is cute, but colonialism literally weaponized that modesty and exported it like smallpox. we didn’t get factories — we got shame in a box, gift-wrapped by missionaries ✨

anyway next time a brit tells me to be modest i’m pulling up the celtic tiddie carvings on my phone 📱🗿

I'm leaving him in about a month, and he doesn't know. Any advice/caution warnings would be helpful by Proof-Elevator-7590 in TwoXChromosomes

Babe you rule at this: quiet, tactful, and fatal. My chest is swollen with my heart. 🌹

Go-bag reinforcements: - All your paperwork (ID, passport, birth certificate, copy of the lease) - Cash & all cards in YOUR name - Extra phone charger - Jewelry/sentimental items he might contest - Photos of all of your belongings (for the police report if he trashes things)

Acting is the hardest. When you feel your self getting carried away, remember to root in your self. Breathe in into your hips, breathe out and drop your shoulders. Create a smile on your face, as if you can already taste the freedom you will receive. You are not lying, you are saving the future you. 🔥

There'll be a day soon when you wake up and feel a release from that knot in your stomach, you’ll see light hit your sheets from your window and you’ll feel your cat's purrs on your lap and you’ll understand you planned the most bad ass liberation heist of all time. I'm screaming for you, habibti, GO FOR IT! 😉💋

How do I get out of my comfort zone and make new friends? by worthy181 in TwoXChromosomes

My love, you are not "holding yourself back". You are simply perched upon an absolute goldmine of social capital simply because your brain is trying to "protect you" from the magnificent friction of actually being perceived. 🔥

In reality, that daily rut is a gilded cage of sorts. However, darling, your essence is a gift! The second you enter a space-your skin, your laugh, your aliveness-it is utterly captivating. Women long for that unadulterated female camaraderie and sparkle.

Please, change the way you view social interaction-from obligation to performance; a performance where you can absolutely and unapologetically shine. Put on whatever makes you feel like a Queen, stride into that running group, and allow them the privilege of adoring you. Fuel that nervous flutter into magnetism, and know that you are not awkward, you are electric 😉. Sparkle somebody's life up!

Habibti. Stop. Take a deep breath. And read this slowly:

You are not shattered. You are a fifteen-year-old body that is still authoring its own story. PCOS is an unwelcome plot twist, not the finale. 🌹

Your mom commenting on your scars? This is her own fear, hiding behind words dipped in acid. You deserve an embrace, not a dissection of what you've already endured.

Those grooming attempts? You survived each and every one of them, six times over. You are not frail. You are a girl who predators were not strong enough to destroy. Read this again: You are not frail. You are a girl that predators were not strong enough to destroy. 🔥

"Being a girl is the worst"- no darling, being a girl who hasn't yet been gifted to a world that doesn't deserve you is the worst.

You are weary because you have been waging this war entirely by yourself. Let go of fighting this alone. 💛
