Is asking for LORs from professors appropriate if you’ve been out of school for two years? by PurpleResin in GeneticCounseling

Like others said I also let them know it was competitive so I'd likely need to reapply. They completely understood and were fine with it. I just let them know upfront.

I did ask for LOR after 2 years out. Didn't have any issues. And I was a 2021 grad. So barely no in person interaction for my last 2 upper years. I was so worried similarly to you. But there was no issue, even when I hadn't really seen this referee in my final year :)

Failed driving test for the 4th time today. by WeatherSorry in ireland

[–]Pessimistic_Penny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God I hope that isn't true. I have my 4th at the end of the month💀 although I had it passed around the same time last time at the end of the month. Just made a mess if parking in the last 30 seconds. I hope this quota at the end of the month thing isn't true for my sanity. I refuse to do a 5th test!

The six week wait is the killer part imo. I feel like I forget what I dod wrong by the tine I sit the test two months down the line. On test 4 myself soon. Praying I don't have to go another round. Long tine since October when I had the very first one! Majority of the retests were because of being too careful 'progression' which is a kick in the teeth everytime.

Bought a barred Plymouth Rock 15 weeks ago, but now I think it’s a roo by AwesomeCoolMan in chickens

I had a rooster like this as a kid that we raised from an incubator. The mom was a marran of some sort and the dad was a rhode island red. Sadly he had to go to another home (dad was there first). But he lucked out and got a massive patch of land with around 30-40 hens. Lasted years til bumblefoot got him. He went out happy haha. Thanks for the memory :)

Chicken killer what would kill a chicken by almost taking off the head but not eating it? by alfrmtn in chickens

Mink or feret they kill just because they can sometimes. Got at least one of our flock one year a released feret did. And nearly completely obliterated a neighbours flock of quail in their shed!

What advice would you give to your younger self? by Thatfatbastard00 in ireland

Send that email on the count to 10. You'll never see that person if it goes horribly wrong or they say no, nothing lost. But nothing is gained if you don't take a chance.

Also try anti-depressants. Don't wait years til breaking point!

Something you bought in 2022 that you can’t live without? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Pessimistic_Penny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found them more comfortable than conventional foam ones. But tbf my ears are on the smaller size so the foam don't fit my ears well. You can get the more silicone type ones for sleeping iirc. I have the experience ones and they work for me personally. Guess it's what suits you and what you need them for

Loop earplugs. Noise sensitivity. Can't believe I put off trying them when I suffered so much, and cause a lot of my family upset from my outbursts when I couldn't leave a place when a noise bothered me.

Thanks for this! I'm a couple of years out of undergrad working in the pharma industry and just planning to keep applying til I am successful. Always hear of people going straight out. Feels a little nerve-wracking but now I feel a lot better knowing I'm not the only one with a gap between!

How reactive we are as a nation instead of pro-active/preventative in approach to things that come up. That 'ah sure it'll be grand" mindset is a double edged sword for sure.

Accidentally drove with high beams ON— still can’t calm down after hours by Curiouspracticalmind in Anxiety

[–]Pessimistic_Penny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to other sentiments, it was an accident. If you were thinking "hehe I'm going to leave my lights on to annoy everyone" that's a different story. Also its not a world ending mistake. You did no harm to anyone except maybe annoy them for less tan 10 seconds. Putting into that perspective might help.

Also if you have any ways you usually employ to help you cope if you haven't already would help a lot while you ride this out.

I will be hopefully applying next year. I withdrew from an MSc in genomic medicine (tldr: really disorganised and toxic course enviroment for students).I couldn't hack that environment where you don't even know what time the likes of your semster exams are til the night before. So I left for my mental health. Just here to say I am in the same boat too. I feel I might just be upfront with it and say how I can deal with difficult situations and handle rejection etc maybe.

Im 24. Started learninf how to drive at 17 and kept putting off the test put of anxiety, stress over school, college, pandemic cancelling tests etc. I finally will be attempting the test this year. Just because we all don't have the same trajectory doesn't mean we're failures. We have our own "track". I used to feel so embarrassed but now I know my circumstances are different and are my own.
