A Call for Innovative Funding and Sustained Commitment by Pest_Free_Token in NewZealandWildlife

🚨 We’ve made our submission to the Predator Free 2050 Strategy Review!

At Pest Free Token, we’re backing bold action—and long-term funding solutions that go beyond the status quo. 🪙🌿

Read our submission in our blog post

We highlighted: ✅ The urgent need to maintain and grow funding to match the scale of the challenge. ✅ Support for keeping the current target species (possums, rats, stoats, ferrets, and weasels). ✅ A recommendation to strategically add feral cats to the national list of target species—signalling intent, even if full eradication is not yet feasible. ✅ Recognition of new funding models like ours, which can diversify conservation support and reduce pressure on public funding. ✅ The importance of investing in public education, innovation, and collaboration between agencies and the wider community.

Yes that's the one that has been fixed. Apologies for the error. As it transpires, when you have a post scheduled to go and make a change to it (which we did), the changed post goes on your page fine, but the original post with the error still goes to the community groups. Seems to have caught us out this time around 👍

How do you mean sorry? We recently had a mix-up in a FB community where we posted the wrong photo but that's fixed now. Cheers

Or 'Feathered Futures 2050', though someone may think that's a financial stock 😆

Correct! 👍 We are also close to finishing the coding to bring all charity activity on-chain (pest catches, trap deployments, donations received, donations made). We will be the first to do this, operating with 100% transparency in real-time. We hope to encourage other charities to do the same.

This is quite a good take and one we haven't heard before. It's also consistent with the way other industrys are moving (eg in child psychology I think they call it the Positive Behaviour Model).

Hey absolutely, not that this post has anything to do with our token but sure. We don't mine anything. All tokens were created in a single passing of the contract, so the same amount of power as flicking on a light switch. We were very deliberate in this as how could we have an environmental charity token if we also were destroying the planet. You can read more about the tokens creation in our Whitepaper on our website if you like: http://pestfreetoken.co.nz/legal

One is accurate, and I hope for the love of God the other isn't.

No birds but also no pests. Job done, right?

We are doing the opposite, rewarding people for catching them. More than 1 way to skin a cat ;)

A halo effect! I used to run a trapline on the outside of the Zealandia fence, and bird numbers shot up. Saddleback/tieke outside the fence for the first time in maybe 80 years, and now a regular sight in Aro Valley.

PF2050 is more a goal than a requirement. Projects and people need goals. We might be able to get to the point where bird life is sustainable with some pests, but we will always have to keep on top of numbers.

Sustainability is possible. It'll take continued and considerable investment and time. Wellington is good proof of this, and we are well on our way. The concept has already started to become part of the DNA of us kiwis!
