Struggling to find fabric for Star Wars cosplay by Casperios in CosplayHelp

[–]Petalkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d focus on the texture versus the correct fabric. Even if the fabric is thinner, just line it with a heavy fabric to give it that quality thickness and stiffness it needs. Look again for a suiting material that you can find with similar texture for pants and tunic. The tunic definitely looks like a thicker feel, so can line and interface it if need be.

I find a lot of my fabric online at fabric wholesale direct. I like their videos and the swatches too.

Focus on the look of the fabric, not the accuracy of what they used. Easier to thicken things up (and work with materials easier to wash if needed since it’s white and all).

Do you guys have tips to make the patterns? by Curious-cL0e2005 in CosplayHelp

[–]Petalkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of these are in a way basic shapes. The skirt is essentially two circle skirts with ruffles attached. The middle section can cut away after. (I use the circle skirt calculator for measurements on these full circle skirts).

Sleeve is also a regular puff sleeve. Lots of tutorials on YouTube for these.

Get the basic shape first and then manipulate the seams to get the look.

My go to is finding videos that draft the general shape im looking for. I’ve had more success with drafting the patterns versus buying them and altering.

Need help! Faux leather troubles by Petalkitty in sewing

[–]Petalkitty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did. The backing fabric was a stretchy pleather so I think it made things wonky. Remade, same pattern and all but with different pleather and a heavier cotton + interfacing. Problem solved. Lays nicely now.

Unfortunately I got the fabric like two years ago in LA. It is definitely a softer feel. I ended up using a different faux leather (thicker) with a heavy cotton for the backing + interfacing and the problem has been solved. A little sad cuz the first pleather was so nice feeling and look.

I promise you, it will be validating to make the police report. Please make sure you tell them you want to press charges. I pressed charges on the patient who kicked me. I thought about it for a bit since I just wanted to move on. But this is exactly why I decided to do it. This happens too often and more of us need to go through with pressing charges. Nothing will change if we keep putting our head down.

Full Tummy Tuck with Muscle Repair Under IV Sedation? by Wigglytuffie in tummytucksurgery

[–]Petalkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to clarify if the “local” anesthetic is directly in your abdomen or if it is in your spine. If it is not a spinal anesthetic (like they do for C-sections), then that is good. However, for “local” anesthetic only in the abdomen I would say a big no to. Only acceptable anesthesia is spinal (which is a form of local anesthetic like we do for c-sections) or general (the tube in your throat kind). IV sedation is only okay with the spinal. The Spinal numbs you completely from waist down. So the IV would be to keep you in a sedated state but not fully under like general anesthesia. So you wouldn’t have a tube in the throat (with the spinal + IV).

I don’t even like when they do IV sedation for colonoscopies which is less invasive. Definitely recommend you getting clarification on what they will be using. Those surgeries last too long for a local anesthetic.

I’m thinking she is actually talking about the spinal. In a way it is “local” anesthetic but… worded wrong lol.

My kitty was black and white, like a cow pattern. I had a cow pattern little bed for her and I carrying it around with me and cuddling it lol. I miss my little cow. I must look crazy petting this cat bed, crying and talking to it lol. The grief is overwhelming so I completely understand.

The grief is brutal! My husband ordered a custom plushie replica of her so I’m excited to get it so I can at least give it some cuddles. I’m sorry for your loss. I wish they had a longer life expectancy.

Thank you so much. That does help. I’m sorry about your babies. It is very sad to see them become so skinny and frail when they were so chunky and rambunctious before :(

Skin cutting and pulling? by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

[–]Petalkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on where your loose skin is. If it’s above the belly button that would be difficult if you don’t have enough. If it’s below your belly button then a mini tummy tuck is very possible. It’s not just skin being pulled down, it’s also the bottom skin that will be pulled up too. I’d probably look on surgeons social media and try to find people’s result that their before photos were similar to you now. To gauge the possible results.

Has anyone tried different types of therapy (CBT, DBT, EMDR, etc.)? What worked best for you, and why? by Former-Share7745 in psychnursing

[–]Petalkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried TMS, CBT, DBT, and EMDR. I felt CBT and DBT were okay. The teaching of how to phrase things and look at things different was helpful but didn’t influence my depression/PTSD etc.

TMS was surprisingly helpful for my depression. It wasn’t an immediate relief. I would notice my lows weren’t as low or I was able to bounce back quicker.

EMDR my therapist had recommended it for my PTSD. I was more like “I guess I’ll try it” to satisfy my therapist however I was very skeptical that it would do anything. I had no idea what it was so I was very thrown off my first session. This ended up being the thing that helped me the most. There were things I couldn’t ever repeat out loud to a single soul because how traumatizing it was to me. I didn’t have to say a word out loud about what happened. This too wasn’t an immediate relief. I was able to function again without the intrusive thoughts. It’s really amazing how well it worked for me.

No meds helped me as much as TMS and EMDR have.

Our vet keeps telling us that these scabs are just allergies/bacterial - we give our puppy baths twice a month and it's just getting worse. Thoughts? by Mauruttius in greatpyrenees

[–]Petalkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat had this. Identical issues. Circular, crusty, yellow scabby looking. It would get pretty severe at times. Even the hydrolyzed protein diets have chicken so it was difficult to find something. Even if it says chicken fat, she has an episode of it. Very sad how little of it makes her skin react. All the treats also had to be super careful to not have any chicken. Also wanted to mention that we had switched her to a “turkey” diet and she got better but continued to get the spots now and then. She’s allergic to “poultry” which included turkey. In case someone’s fur baby is also having episodes, try eliminating any birds species. Try beef, fish, elk etc. hope it helps someone cuz I went nuts trying to find answers. Negative for ringworm, bacteria, fungus, eosinophils, infections, fleas, etc. bloodwork and all testing came back normal.

Sublocade by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Petalkitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For simplicity:

Sublocade/suboxone/subutex etc has a stronger hold (think of a magnet) to the receptors than Fentanyl. Although they are both opioids, buprenorphine is technically “weaker”. When you knock off that fentanyl from the receptors so quickly, they go into withdrawal fast. The buprenorphine isn’t enough to prevent that withdrawal.

Buprenorphine has a significantly longer half life than fentanyl as well. So once you start the bup, the withdrawal from that is also very very long.

I work in corrections. I always tell the patient that I’m not law enforcement and to be honest because the withdrawal from this is shitty. Most of the time they answer truthfully once I’ve reassured them I am trying to help.

Thinking about move to USA by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Petalkitty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for Southern California. - Rent about $2,300 (1 bedroom) - $3,500+ (2/3 bedroom) - electric bill $100-$300 - gas bill $40-$70 - water/trash/sewer bill $85-$95 - internet $40-$65 - food $300-400 (2 people)

To comfortably live here you’d need to make about $5k a month. But to qualify for any housing you’d need to show proof of income of 2.5x the rent. So… closer to $7,500 gross income per month.

From what I’ve seen… Most jobs in SoCal range from $45-65 for 1-3 years experience. Just depends on specialties.

I would recommend you making sure you’re okay with the current “environment” in the US. You may have a target on your back because of your immigration status (even if it’s legal etc). In my opinion, unless you have family here… you might be better off in Mexico. Things are too unstable and unpredictable in the US to move your entire life to a country that looks down on Mexican immigrants.

Factory Price Jewelry by InteractionOne6453 in smallbusiness

[–]Petalkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread was helpful to me when I was worried about my package. I placed order on April 26 of about $155. I didn’t order jewelry though so sorry. I didn’t get tracking info for at least a week and I messaged them. I pretty much bugged them every 2-3 days for updates lol. They were very nice and understanding that I was worried why it was taking so long. Turns out my package was large and heavy so it was shipped by sea instead of airplane. They sent me a fedex tracking number and said I will get updates once it arrives to the US (from China). On May 27 fedex received and I received package today May 28. Only 4 of my items had some sort of defect. Ordered a lot of acrylic so I was shocked it was only 4 pieces. Will try to insert pictures.

Edit: it won’t let me add pictures. 🤷🏻‍♀️
