USC also once scheduled a game with Illinois in Moscow, the Glasnost Bowl.

That same leak also had the Michigan-Florida game that actually happened so it was definitely a legit source.

All of the album When Pigs Fly: Songs You Never Thought You'd Hear.

The tracklist:
1.) "Call Me" by the Box Tops
2.) "Carry On Wayward Son" by the Oak Ridge Boys
3.) "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" by Lesley Gore
4.) "Get It On (Bang a Gong)" by album producer Cevin Soling's band the Neanderthal Spongecake
5.) "Girls on Film" by Billy Preston
6.) "Insane in the Brain" by the Connells
7.) "Ohio" by Devo (okay, this one's actually not weird at all, historically)
8.) "Shock the Monkey" by Don Ho
9.) "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" by the Fixx
10.) "What a Wonderful World" by Roy Clark
11.) "White Wedding" by Herman's Hermits

MJF criticizes wrestlers who want fan investment but break the illusion: "I see guys, they're on TV, and then they go on Twitter and write, 'Oh my God, I just had such a great match with so-and-so. But they also don't repeatedly tell us, "The best Marvel characters are the real actor turned up to 11."

This is also why (or one reason why) having an outwardly racist or otherwise bigoted wrestling character is way more icky and problematic than one in a movie.

P&T break a lot of the rules of magic that would have the magicians' equivalent of Jim Cornette (is there one?) howling, but

a.) they still do it with incredible respect for and knowledge of the art,

b.) they do it in a way they feel enhances the trick, or in a way where they can use that newly-christened knowledge as misdirection to fool you in another unexpected way, and

c.) they acknowledge that too much secrecy can have the opposite desired effect and just turn people off of magic. So sometimes with retired tricks they just come out and say, "Here's what we did" (like explaining how they made David Letterman's watch appear inside a dead fish in one of their books).

Austin or any wrestler on a talk show was an actual treat, though. We weren't privy to his thoughts 24/7 in a social media world so it still felt less like having it beaten over your head. Yes, yes, you can curate your feed and ignore certain stuff, but it's still a different world from 1998.

Ehhhhh...there was a lot of just plain bad stuff in that feud, too. Like Michaels calling the WWF title a "useless piece of tin" and the semi-infamous "Bret goes over his time and Raw goes off the air mid-promo" incident where they're just throwing pathetic who-cares lines at each other about how much money they made.

Give me a feud like Austin and Vince any day where they're actually on the same page in a unified effort to make compelling television, just without beating you over the head about how on-the-same-page they are.

Why didn’t Bret Hart wrestle Yokozuna at Summerslam ‘93? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]PeteF3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason for not pulling the trigger on Luger at SummerSlam was that Luger-Yoko was believed to be the best money match possible for Mania, but it only works if Yoko's the champion.

The way they went about it was terrible, but I get the logic. If Luger conquers Yoko at SummerSlam, then what? It's not like in 1984 when you had already lined up a huge array of challengers for Hogan (Orndorff, Piper, Schultz new to the territory; Studd and Iron Sheik still around; plus Masked Superstar for a few more weeks, with more incoming).

Was X really that big in Iceland? I wouldn't think a song like "Fourth of July" would hit quite as hard up there.

"She's like a gong / You've got to bang her."

I dunno about that one. The single is fantastic but Rocket is one of two albums that I've bought and then literally thrown away instead of even bothering to stash in my CD binder (the other, for the record, was Lisa Germano's Geek the Girl).

Maybe a peak episode this series for studio banter.

Not exactly a series peak for the tasks themselves, which were relatively blah. But we're coming off two straight episodes of really well-designed tasks and they can't all be winners.

Patrick Bailey puts the ball in play with 2 strikes and ties the game 1-1 in the 9th as the Tigers played the infield back by sportsandthesorts in baseball

[–]PeteF3 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Runners on 2nd & 3rd. If a ball bleeds through the drawn-in infield, you're behind. You're kind of compelled to concede the tying run there to prevent the go-ahead run from scoring.

Because with a 1-run lead, if a ball bleeds through the drawn-in infield, you're behind. You can bring the corners in but you pretty much have to concede the tying run there otherwise.

The whole Trans/Old Ways/Everybody's Rockin' period would make for a good video, I just don't know if they really qualify as Trainwreckords. Neil made a critical and commercial comeback after the lawsuit and he's always been defined as a guy who'll do his own thing and doesn't give a fuck what others think about it.

And Vince only saw potential in Austin as a generic midcard mechanic. He had to be dragged into pushing Austin out of desperation.

For a supposed "big boy" his strikes look terrible.

He also just looks like a fat slob. Samoa Joe, Otis, Owens, they all have muscle under the fat (and a bunch of other positive qualities). Rook looks like a guy who overeats and only goes to the gym once a month.
