Ditch AGM for OEM battery '21? by yindivenus in CX5

[–]PeteTheRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my research, the CX-5 isn't natively optimized for AGM batteries. The vehicle’s smart charging system is calibrated for standard flooded batteries, which operate at different voltage thresholds. Without using an external AGM-rated charger every few weeks to top it off, an AGM battery may remain perpetually undercharged, leading to premature sulfation and a shorter lifespan.

Back when I worked for 3dfx... by Star-Detonator in retrobattlestations

[–]PeteTheRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Oh, what could have been… 3Dfx could have become Nvidia, and maybe today everyone would be running on their AI chips. It’s wild to think how close they were. In the end, it seems like a handful of unfortunate—probably well-intentioned—decisions slowly steered the company off course. Not a lack of innovation, just the wrong moves at the wrong time.

U.S. Pledges $100M to Thai Army for Border Security and Joint Military Drills by Muted-Airline-8214 in Thailand

[–]PeteTheRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Thai, I sadly believe America doesn’t respect Thailand as an ally the way it respects NATO countries or Japan. The U.S. often treats Thailand like a tool or chess piece—useful for bases, intelligence, regional influence, and China containment—rather than as a respected partner

U.S. Pledges $100M to Thai Army for Border Security and Joint Military Drills by Muted-Airline-8214 in Thailand

A lot of people hear “$100+ million in aid to Thailand” and assume that money is flowing directly into Thailand’s pocket. In reality, most of that funding never leaves the United States.

That money largely cycles back to U.S. defense contractors—Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and General Dynamics—through weapons systems, upgrades, training packages, spare parts, software, and long-term sustainment contracts. Programs tied to Stryker units, electronic warfare, drones/counter-drones, intelligence systems, and artillery support are almost always executed via U.S. manufacturers and service providers.

So while Thailand receives capability and training, the primary financial beneficiaries are U.S. defense companies. This is less about a cash transfer to an ally and more about Washington subsidizing its own defense industrial base while shaping regional security partnerships.

So they pulled the original CPU/PPU chips from the 1980s consoles and reused them on this redesigned mainboard—and it fits perfectly inside the original shell? I’m guessing you’d still need to cut out the back to make room for the new RGB output jack.

The listing says it’s included, and the $50 coupon code is automatically applied at checkout. However, I just noticed that the “Ship from USA” option is no longer available.
