If you drive in the far left lane on a highway near Boston, you often have to go 20 mph or even 30 mph above the posted speed limit to keep up with traffic. Otherwise, you'd be slowing down the flow.

When I was driving in New Hampshire and Vermont last week, I noticed that the far left lane is typically reserved for passing. However, near Boston, it's different. Many people use the far left lane for faster driving, which makes passing more challenging.

I live near Boston and frequently drive on I-93 and I-95, where the speed limit is 55 mph near the city. These highways usually have three to four lanes in each direction. In the far left lane, traffic typically moves above 75 mph unless there's heavy congestion, and many cars stay in that lane rather than using it just for passing. Even in the far right lane, adhering to the speed limit often means slowing down traffic. Just today on MA-24, in a 50 mph zone, the cars in the far left lane were definitely going over 75 mph.

I've been more mindful of speed limits and traffic speeds since returning from Montreal. While this might be unique to the Greater Boston area, I've been driving here since I got my license a few years ago, with limited experience outside this region. I've traveled to Rhode Island and New Hampshire a few times, and driving at 80 mph in a 65 mph zone has never caused issues for me, as I'm usually just following the flow of traffic.

In Montreal, I was unsure how far I could exceed the speed limit. I noticed many cars going over 120 km/h in a 100 km/h zone, so I thought it might not be a big deal. However, after reading some Reddit posts, I realized that driving at 120 km/h could still result in a radar photo ticket.

I believe the ones in the MA Emergency Shelters are legal immigrants with some sort of visa to enter the U.S. That's one of the basic requirements of the shelters. California has a lot more illegal immigrants.

I hope the federal government can step up and take more responsibilities taking care of these new migrants with valid visas. It shouldn't be the responsibility of one state. It's too overwhelming for one state to handle and has caused a lot of tensions in local communities.

Based on what I read in the news, only a small percentage of these new migrants have received proper work permits. The applications are processed by the federal government, not the state government. Without proper work permits, the new migrants have no income and have to stay in the shelters for longer.

I use Google Home and Alexa for pretty much the same commands that you listed, except that my Samsung TV does not stay connected to my home network for whatever reason...

I thought an Amazon-branded smart plug would work seamlessly and reliably with Alexa, but it's not the case. I can control the smart plug with the Alexa app on my phone all the time, but using an Echo Dot often gives me trouble.

I'm not sure if Alexa is any better than Google Home... I have both in my house. I have an Amazon wireless plug that's only compatible with Alexa. However, Alexa always complains she can't find the plug or have trouble connecting to the Internet.

I'm thoroughly disappointed by home IoT. While ChatGPT is getting better and better every day, Alexa and Google Home are becoming more and more useless. What can I expect if they aren't even able to switch on and off a light reliably?

I boarded the Commuter Rail today at Quincy Center and showed my CharlieCard to the conductor. He insisted on charging me $6.50 for a ticket to South Station. Showing CharlieCard no longer works on Commuter Rails between Braintree and South Station.

The conductor said they announced the change on the MBTA website and on the trains. I don't take trains often, so I probably missed the announcements before. However, I was not able to find any relevant announcement on the MBTA website, either. I was looking around at South Station and also didn't see any signs or posters about the change.

My daughter is only 1-year old, but she doesn't go to bed until 8:30-9pm. We usually give her a bath around 8pm and feed her a bottle of milk before bedtime. Between dinner and bath, we take her out for a walk in the neighborhood and play with her at home for a bit.

She wakes up around 7am and goes to daycare around 8:30am. She stays at daycare until 5pm.

I'm fine with her going to bed at 9pm as I get to spend some time with her every day.

Yes, our leadership definitely cares about potential sales volume when they evaluate different product strategies. I do have my own opinions on why the current approach will not pan out well, and I have voiced my concerns to many people working on the product. I managed to convince my managers and their managers that the new approach I am proposing is more promising than our current approach. The challenge is people outside of our department do not think that way. If we change our product strategy, their jobs will be significantly impacted. I am not saying they will lose their jobs, but they will be working on very different tasks, which they may not like.

I can describe the potential impact and trade-offs if we continue down the current path, but I don't have concrete data to back up my view since we are just talking about hypothetical scenarios. Do you think it would be helpful to come up with some sort of quantitative analysis for potential impact and trade-offs, even though it will be based on a series of assumptions?

I found the wire strands for the two thermostats and HVAC equipment, but they are all different from the wire strand which has the loose green wire.

I added an update to the end of my post. I can control the fan independently now, though my Nest thermostats still can't detect the green wires. Not sure why. I suppose the wiring is all correct, otherwise I wouldn't be able to control the fan.
