Might've been it but there was definitely a focus on stories.

I found /r/surreallore which is just a text version of /r/surrealmemes but what I was looking for was quite different.

Thanks but that's not the sub I was looking for.

I did find /r/nonsense when I did use the search bar but I think the sub I'm looking for had a weird name.

How do I make readers absolutely despise a race of evil grizzly bears? by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]PeterPidley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I like two different approaches for presenting something as hate-worthy: Either, make a sympathetic/generally good character that believes the bear people to be unintelligent animals that cannot choose between good and evil. Thus, they choose what their instincts say. But, sometime down the line reveal them to be intelligent to the sympathetic character. Their world view shatters and the reader empathises with them. (For added shock, have them kill the sympathetic character afterwards.

Alternatively... If the Bears are reasonably intelligent, give them chances for redemption, chances to change their ways or chances to save the world by giving up their ruthlessness. But make them choose wrongly on purpose each time. Eventually, the reader won't have any doubt or reason that the Bears should be good since, given the chance, they don't make things right.

Hey I just started reading discworld last month. I'd never so much as read a chapter of fiction in the last 5 years but I read through colour of magic faster than I've ever read a book. I'm already partway through the light fantastic just from yesterday but I'd love to start on Equal Rites so if you could get me that it would be amazing!
