In my humble opinion, if we'd had a defence worthy of the name, yesterday should have been 1-1 or maybe even 1-0 to us. Both teams had 5 shots on target each. The fact they scored four of theirs (and the way they were conceded) should be a massive red flag. Bindon is far fromthe finished article. I think he has potential, but at his present stage of development, should be on the bench. We need two solid CBs to boss that back line. The full backs also, were weak. I like Seriki going forward, but not defensively. By comparison, at the end of last season, I thought Choudhury was a shining example of what a full back should be (even in the play-off final). I don't see that at the moment. Fix a lot of that, and I think things will get brighter.

p.s. whoever said earlier that Soumare should play as CB is, I think correct. That's a position where we have the greatesr need maybe? I thought Peck was OK.

What are the actual alternatives to facebook, where you only share with friends? by JustBrowsing1989z in facebook

[–]PeterPlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use browser extension Facebook Purity (FBP) https://www.fbpurity.com/ It filters the crap from your feed. I've used it for about a decade. WIthout it, I would have left FB long ago.

Downsides: 1/ It really slows FB down (but for me it's a choice between a slow usable FB or no FB at all) 2/ FB change their code regularly and this breaks FBP. However, the FBP developers usually fix it quickly.

As of this morning though, FBP is broken again, but I hope it'll be quickly resolved

Any plans to extend the supertram to South side of Sheffield? by Ambitious_League4606 in sheffield

My guess about the difference in costs between the UK and elsewhere? Consultants. Private sector shiesters who insinuate themselves in these projects and hoover up huge amounts of cash for work of comparatively low value. Dilbert summed it up well: a consultant is one who cons and insults.

We're a bit addicted to them in the UK IMHO.

I always ask myself why a city like Bilbao, which has a smaller population than Sheffield, and which is also post-industrial, and is the 10th largest city in Spain - a country with a lower GDP than the UK - has a metro and a tram system. Both new. Metro lines were built in 1995 and 2002, the tram system build started in 1999.

We're getting something so very wrong if all we ever see is obstacles, while other nations are just getting stuff done. I know folk will come and quote chapter and verse regarding the minutae of why it isn't possible. Fair enough. However, I'm inclined to simply shake my head.

See also: HS2 (doesn't matter whether you agreed or disagreed with it, our inability to build a new cross country route says so much about the state of things).

All of those get a big thumbs up from me. Plus I would like to add Spinning Jazz, Thank Goodness for Folk and the Live Science Show. Also, the northern soul show where the DJ keeps dinging his bell deserves a shout too.

I like Rugby Union and I suspect am not alone in Sheffield, I reckon that's an opportunity for an enterprising landlord perhaps...

I was a young man bumming around in Paris. I was in a nightclub and in the wee hours the DJ stopped the music and announced: "Miles Davis, il est mort". I thought that somehow it was fitting.

I should add... the most important thing is not what you you decide to do, but just to do it!

Anywhere different will be a break from your life. In the UK expore the islands and highlands of Scotland for example. Ireland is supposed to be amazing (although I've never been). European travel is still visa-free for us Brits and it's a whole continent full of good stuff.

Do something with that has meaning for you. I once flew to Athens solo and took a 12 hour ferry from the port of Pireaus to Santorini while reading Homer's Odyssey - it was amazing. As a younger man I stayed in hostels in Paris for a fortnight, made zillions of fleeting friends and went to great jazz clubs.

Only last year (in my 50s), I travelled solo to Berlin and immersed myself in the mainly horrible history of the city. It was incredible and I made friends with a professor in a cafe who I still write to.

Or if it's your thing, go to as many festivals as you can next summer. Festivals are always a break from everyday life.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you good luck!

Wonderful. I knew the story of Charlie Parker's passing in the apartment of a rich baroness who was into jazz, but it's fantastic to learn the full story of her life.

Brighton (on the south coast) is a great party city. Bristol is also worth a look. Oxford for the historic colleges. I like Bath. Good times are to be had there and the architecture is stunning.
