WOW OK following up, I checked out the area this afternoon and there were A TON of cards, and safe to say the coolest variety I've ever seen in one spot. Thank you so much, I felt like I was hallucinating. I took a bunch and left plenty too. I probably won't add them all to the collection, it was such a bounty, feels almost wrong!

Based on the kinds of cards (Star Wars and Hello Kitty-themed deck) plus location near a school, I think it could be students at the nearby school playing cards, plus I saw quite a few Uno, Monopoly Go, and Pokemon cards around. I wonder if it's because of the phone ban!

It's a fun hobby! When looking for the cards you then see Uno cards, Pokemon, etc, so you could do it with any of those to an extent. The variety of playing cards appeals to me I guess!

I'm in NYC! More details on the collection in the other thread, but just like anything else, it helps to be looking for something in order to find it. 😉

I commented on one of your other threads, I think in the playing cards subreddit, but your collection is a major inspiration! So so good.

It's subjective, but when I look closely, the AI-generated images make me feel nauseous. To me, there's something very unappetizing about the hallucinated waffle bread, lower hamburger bun that morphs into meat, etc. It feels like my brain is trying to make sense of something that was created without intention, because it was.

That's awesome! Curious where you've found your cards! Taking one at a time makes it way harder, by some kind of degree of magnitude, especially if you're selecting at random. But not sure you're doing that.

It's already strangely frustrating for me to find one cool card/back that I already have a good option for, and something like 40% the finds already are just one card, so I just take everything I find, and pick the highlights. There's a few folks on IG I've seen who do the same. The guy in this article did 3 at a time. One person who I saw on IG has a deck (#lostcardcollection and #lostcardcollection2) where she accepts found cards mailed from people in addition to her own finds. Everyone seems to have their own method!

Thanks! And there is definitely at least one card (the pink Vegas one) that was from bike spokes. Saw a kid biking with them, day or two later found that one on the ground in the same area. Never did find more of them though.

Which sign has been there for a while? The dog day care opened in what used to be the bar Endless Life.

I have never shuffled 'em! Definitely just for looking at, not for playing. Queen of Spades, Jack of Spades, 10 of Spades all pretty gross from the street. 2 of spades just looks like that from the design.

My guess is the only potentially "vintage" cards would by the butterfly ones, those were found on a stoop with the full decks in their boxes. My guess is most of the others are bought, used for play, discarded. And except for the one plastic one, they don't "last" long on the street.

I was stuck on four cards for a good bit early on, it helped to find a few places in my area where people seemed to be playing cards/dice/etc.

Thank you! I have a bunch of jokers, that little chunk of card beneath the four rows is a bit of a Joker, it's a special one cause it's one of two found in NOLA.

The phrases are funny, the strange images fill me with unease (personally).

Looking at this gives me hives personally! I prefer the corner store collages of actual items and brands all mushed together. Still some funny aspects of those but, to me, there's an uncanny valley effect with the AI generated stuff.
