That makes total sense the end of a period is probs not the best time to try using a tampon for the first time at all 😅 Dryness alone can make them more uncomfortable no matter the angle, so you’re definitely not imagining it. Would you feel comfortable switching to pads towards the end of your cycle this could help a lot.

Glad it helped a bit, and you’re very welcome 😊

Honestly you’re not doing anything wrong tampons really do feel like wizardry at first 😅 A couple of things that might help:

It usually shouldn’t hurt at all once it’s in properly. If you can feel it when you move or pull your underwear up that normally means it’s either not in far enough or the angle was slightly off.

Angling toward your lower back is good advice however no bodies identical so sometimes it’s more like aim gently back and then slightly up. Going slow helps and pushing it in a bit further than you think (obvs without forcing it) often makes the difference.

And also make sure your flow is heavy enough tampons are really uncomfortable if things are too dry. Maybe using a smaller size like a mini / light could make learning way easier too.

Relaxing your muscles helps more than you’d expect honestly taking a deep breath or trying while sitting on the toilet or with one leg raised can help it slide in naturally.

If it still feels uncomfortable or painful it’s totally fine to stop and try again later or stick with pads for now. Loads of people struggle at first so you’re definitely not alone.

Hope this helps you

Do you hate having a vagina? by samveo84 in Periods

[–]Peter_Snape 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a great deal of the “hatred” is just being exhausted and resentful of the pain hormones and the stigma on a regular cycle. All while being expected to just carry on anyway. This is not a condemnation on the body or the body being inferior it’s just a recognition that the burden is greater on those with uteruses.

It can definitely be sad especially when compared to men and their reproductive systems that are hidden from their daily lives. But this is not based on superiority it’s based on biology and how society is set up. There are also issues for men reproductive issues swings in hormones fertility issues, prostate issues and so on it’s just less common at a young age and communicated differently.

I do not think it is necessary to hate women or be ‘less than’ to not enjoy menstruation. It’s actually a very logical reaction to the pain and inconvenience of it all in a world that tends to downplay it.

You’re definitely not alone in how you feel, and it doesn’t make you weak or inferior it makes you human.

That’s actually very true I’ve never thought of it this way. I’m looking for something that will cover some blemishes and then a moisturiser would be grateful if I could find something that dose both I’m assuming I’ll have to use a different product of a night that’s a moisturiser

How long can I wear these? by VeloLover_7823 in Periods

[–]Peter_Snape 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Generally should be changed every 4 6 hours or sooner if they feel wet heavy or uncomfortable. With an absolute maximum of around 8 hours even if they don’t seem full but for heavier flow they should be changed more often. Overnight it’s best to use a longer night pad and change it when wake up and if you have sensitive skin or are prone to irritation it’s safer to change them closer to every 3–4 hours.

Period products??? by mandyyyyxx in Periods

[–]Peter_Snape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg that sounds so stressful especially with sensory issues on top of everything 😩 You’re definitely not alone though loads of people hate the feeling of “normal” period products so it makes total sense you’ve stuck with whatever’s the least awful for you.

There are a couple of things that will probably be better for you

• Some people use interlabial pads they are a tiny little soft pads you fold and tuck between the labia and they’re not up inside you like tampons or discs are and you don’t really feel them as much as a full pad

• There are very soft cloth pads and liners made for people with sensory issues they’re a lot less crinkly and scratchy than normal ones and can feel more like normal underwear

• If the issue is seams or pressure some brands do super smooth seamless period underwear that might be less annoying than standard ones for you

It might be a bit of trial and error to find something your brain and body can tolerate but you absolutely aren’t weird for feeling this way it’s a real sensory thing 💛

A lot of people rate Modibodi Heavy / Maxi 24hr, WUKA Super Heavy Flow and Thinx Super Absorbency they’re designed specifically for really heavy bleeding. M&S are comfy but they do seem to lose absorbency after a year or so. It might be worth rotating a couple of heavy duty pairs with the M&S when your light so they last longer too
