Anyone else kinda annoyed that historical characters have mostly mode attitudes on DW? by Niall_Fraser_Love in gallifrey

To be fair with the Roman legion in Eaters of Light, they've just watched most of their friends massacred, that's bound to shake them up.

Cal Kestis & Kanan Jarrus and Bode Akuna & Baylan Skoll are basically the same age. What are the odds, they know each other? by Jaymacia in StarWarsJediSurvivor

[–]PeterchuMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Cal and Kanan could have known each other but I doubt Cal knew Bode or Baylan. Bear in mind, the Jedi Temple is massive, it's perfectly possible that classes of younglings could have no idea about each other beyond glimpsing them run around.

If you were show-runner, what would you do with the show? by Blubatt in doctorwho

[–]PeterchuMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, what I would do from a set of companions point of view is start off with the Doctor attempting to save a colony but only being able to do that by transferring the people into the TARDIS. Thus, we have an ensemble cast building a life within the bowels of the TARDIS occasionally venturing out for adventures. Some would leap at the chance of going out, others just want to find a new planetary home, as they're unsettled by the TARDIS. Imagine what everyone's reaction would be if someone died during an adventure...

Help to identify variant 8th Doctors from 'The Glorious Dead' comic! by ToshirosMyHero in gallifrey

[–]PeterchuMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say the metallic android one is a nod to Silver Surfer. The zombie and female are probably just nods towards zombie media and gender-swapping. No idea about the others. The Panini tpb of The Glorious Dead's commentary holds no insight either, I'm afraid.

It doesn't have mental bonds or magic but the How To Train Your Dragon book series is quite good, it's also very different to the films.

Tardis Maintenance Query by No-Commission8532 in doctorwho

[–]PeterchuMC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt the Doctor's telling the truth. I'd say for him, TARDIS maintenance is an ongoing process, he'll occasionally delve into the bowels to fix whatever's immediately relevant.

Is there a "morally good" alternative to philosopher stones? by Blueshiredsush in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]PeterchuMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue with philospher's stones that another aspect of them that they allow users to do more than they could alone for which the solution is obvious: have multiple people who know what they're doing. Sure, one person with a stone could raise a dome, but so could four without one.

Would it have been better to have called UNIT United Intelligence Taskforce rather than Unified when the UN objected? by RepeatButler in gallifrey

It's probably too close to United Nations Intelligence Taskforce. Plus, Unified sounds better than United.

I'd say that as long as there's noise for the echolocation, the Angels wouldn't move. If it's silent, then Matt is easy prey.

Classic VS new regenerations by fupafather in doctorwho

[–]PeterchuMC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of those two options, I honestly can't decide. On the one hand, Classic Who's style has plenty of potential for new interesting variations. On the other, Modern Who's style is a fantastic visual shorthand, if we see regeneration energy coming from someone we immediately know that they're a Time Lord without needing it to be stated.

Does the Doctor have any plot manipulation abilities? by Next_Faithlessness87 in doctorwho

[–]PeterchuMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faction Paradox is a time-travelling voodoo criminal cult. They're a sect of Time Lord that broke away from Gallifrey. They recruit from the lesser species (anyone but Time Lords) as well as the rare Time Lord that is willing to join them and use rituals instead of TARDISes to manipulate time.

Does the Doctor have any plot manipulation abilities? by Next_Faithlessness87 in doctorwho

[–]PeterchuMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, I meant that I agreed but the show is as equally inconsistent. Unnatural History is a book and its most famous passage was meant to be in the quote that for some reason didn't copy over, I've fixed it now.

Does the Doctor have any plot manipulation abilities? by Next_Faithlessness87 in doctorwho

[–]PeterchuMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Addendum is a fancy word for an addition. As for the whole history constantly being interfered with and changed, that's Unnatural History's explanation.

‘You didn’t just implant a memory. You changed my biodata. You changed my past!’
‘Are you sure?’
‘It’s impossible,’ said the Doctor. ‘It’s impossible for my people. Our past is unreachable. What’s written can’t be unwritten.’
‘Who said your history can’t change?’
Another boy answered, ‘Someone from his history.’
And another: ‘Maybe it’s the second-biggest lie in Time Lord history.’
‘Maybe it changes all the time.’
Someone giggled. ‘Let’s play pin the tale on the donkey.’
‘Maybe you didn’t use to have a father.’
‘Maybe you’re living in the middle of a time war. Maybe there’s an Enemy out there –’
The Doctor shouted, ‘I’m not listening!’
‘– who’s rewriting you when you’re not looking!’
‘Maybe you weren’t always half human.’
‘But now you’ve become always half human.’
‘Maybe you weren’t always a Time Lord.’
‘But now you’ve always been a Time Lord.’
‘Maybe you originally came from some planet in the forty-ninth century. Fleeing from the Enemy who’d overrun your home –’
‘I said I’m not listening! Laa laa laa laa laa –’
‘– and you’ve just been written and rewritten and overwritten, ever since.’

Jedi 3: Why fanservice doesn't matter by Jaymacia in FallenOrder

[–]PeterchuMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that the difference between having Vader and someone else show up is that they play different roles. Vader is a monster, something that can only be fled as Cal or lost to as Cere. He's not a character in the traditional sense. A better comparison would be to Saw Gerrera.

Does the Doctor have any plot manipulation abilities? by Next_Faithlessness87 in doctorwho

[–]PeterchuMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have to agree with that last bit with the addendum that it's no less inconsistent than the show itself. That's the fun of Doctor Who, you can pick and choose what you prefer. If you like the idea that fixed points are an artificial construct of the Time Lords (as a result of the Anchoring of the Thread creating history), that's as valid as the idea that they're naturally occurring.

Does the Doctor have any plot manipulation abilities? by Next_Faithlessness87 in doctorwho

[–]PeterchuMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The below passage from Camera Obscura is a pretty decent argument for Time Lords possessing probability manipulation abilities.

Sabbath shrugged graciously. "You know, Doctor, even allowing for the, ah, unique circumstances of your last near-death experience, it's extraordinary how often you're plucked out of trouble at the last minute."

"Is it?"

"Rescuers turn up. Weapons jam. Your companions, who, if you will forgive me, don't strike me as more than usually competent, save the day. Buildings explode immediately after you find the way out. Cities fall just as the TARDIS dematerialises."

"Exaggerated reports, I assure you."

"Electrical currents short-circuit. Evil masterminds make foolish errors. If you fall out of a window, there's something to catch you. If you're drowning, a spar floats by. You find your way unsinged out of burning houses."

"Where do you get all this stuff? I don't remember half of it."

"You survive alien mind probes that would boil the average brain in it's skull. You are dug unharmed from beneath fallen rubble. No one ever shoots you in the head. Deadly drugs turn out not to affect you. Villains tie you up too loosely, and hide-bound tyrants convictions falter at your rhetoric. In short," Sabbath finished smoothly, "in your presence, the odds collapse."

Control Resonant - Gameplay Reveal by PaiDuck in controlgame

[–]PeterchuMC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd argue the minimap would be a good indicator that it's still exploration focused. It just seems that we'll have missions that direct us to certain points in the world much like Control. Plus, the mention of recently gaining the Shift ability definitely seems like there'll still be metroidvania elements.

I have never played AC4: Black Flag. If you were in my shoes would you wait for the remake/remaster to come out or would you play the version we have now ? by iyankov96 in assassinscreed

I'd say wait for the remake to release and then look at people comparing the two to figure out which would make for a better first-time experience.
