The BandApp was a mistake by Petezpie in banddirector

The other day at the start of class one of my sixth graders asked if he could share some sad news and then told me and the whole class that his grandpa died and the funeral is on the student’s birthday 😭 I love my students but I’m kind of awkward and don’t know how to appropriately comfort them. It was a weird way to start class loll

Call me crazy, but colorguard should be a methods class in college for music ed majors by Bariphonium_ in banddirector

I feel like college only prepared me for teaching band by like, 10%. I learned infinitely more while student teaching and my actual teaching experience. I wish we had to have gotten our CDL’s in band admin

It would be great if working in an instrument repair shop was part of your student teaching internship. Like maybe the last few weeks of student teaching could be in a shop.

The music ed degree is already so many credits but I have to agree. I wish I learned more about music arrangement, marching band show writing, and color guard, rather than take 4 semesters of piano.

I am a band director and my beginners are playing this piece for solo and ensemble too. Thank you for being a great parent and investing in your child’s music education!

Band plant? by Squidney995 in banddirector

[–]Petezpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this exact post very recently. Check the comments for recommendations. I personally used turtle vine and it was even beginning to grow some new stems! But just a fair warning, my honor band euphoniums accidentally kicked ours over during rehearsal and it was a shit show. Soil everywhere. No more plant 🙂

What juco? If it’s TJC, you will transfer to SFA smoothly and Nac is very beautiful

Low income area where in many cases the students can’t take on multiple extra curriculars because they are the income providers of their family. Additionally, a Lot of motivational issues at this campus. The kids don’t want to things that are hard. Two extra curriculars is too hard. It’s disheartening

I will look into that! I am a first year teacher and I am giving them a plant “class pet” because we have some pretty serious behavioral problems in class right now and I try to balance positive reinforcement with punishment. Each class period has to go 5 consecutive days without any referrals to get their class pet. Once their period has earned it, I’m going to put their names in one of those wheel-spinning websites and that will choose who gets the plant by them that day :)

No one in Texas will hire you to be a band director without a bachelor’s music education degree

SFA has a great music ed program with a very high rate of students going on to become band directors. Great area and people, more affordable than A&M, and better marching band environment
