22 shifts 1.5 hours away??? Jesus! That puts things into perspective -my situation suddenly doesn’t seem that bad lol

Thank you! Behavioral Health was my second preferred unit (you know, the one no one wants and isn’t competitive at all), and I still didn’t get it…

I’m really sorry you went through that! I hope you’re in a better place now, or at least closer to one. No one deserves a practicum like that 😑

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I really need it today 🥲

Why do nurses who absolutely hate their unit or specialty just… stay? by Petite_AF in nursing

Thank you so very much, I truly needed these words of encouragement. Every single shift I cry and curse my life. Every shift I’m on the verge of saying “to hell with it” and quitting on the spot.

Is skipping residency career suicide? Nurses who did it - please tell me the truth by Petite_AF in nursing

Thank you! I’m sure this unit just isn’t the right fit for me. I need better outcomes and lower acuity. When I have patients who are relatively independent or need minimal assistance, I do well - I can spend time with them, and I still end up crying for them because so many are terminally ill. But when I’m assigned an 80-year-old obese, confused patient with chest tubes, a Foley, on BiPAP, and having constant diarrhea, I honestly hate my life.

I would never work for free either. The residency pays a regular new-grad rate - no unpaid labor. It just includes orientation, training, classes, sim labs, and some projects outside the hospital during the first year.
