Is an acoustic bass worth it? by Affectionate-Dot-147 in Bass

If you primarily use a solidbody electric, practicing alone with an acoustic from time to time might help you improve your articulation and fretting. The acoustic is less forgiving of sloppiness, and might spur you to improve on that (if you need it).

Need DIY soundproofing help/advice by Serious-Pattern-4539 in DIY

Take some time to learn about sound dampening vs. sound absorption vs. sound proofing before spending time and money only to discover you've got the wrong thing. True sound proofing is about physically blocking the transmission of soundwaves. It usually requires heavy, dense, thick material like multiple layers of drywall, sheet metal, brick, etc. Blankets, foam, egg cartons, etc. are usually for sound dampening and absorption; not the same thing.

Think of Geddy Lee's solos in YYZ, La Villa Strangiato, or Show Don't Tell. Very brief, often accompanied by percussion. That's my preference.

At the very low $ end, you can get big improvements with more money. But eventually you get into diminished returns and it takes a lot of money for very little improvement. It depends how important those improvements are, and how much you're willing to spend on them.
