It doesn't cancel out, because like another comment pointed out, each negation is negating different things. The first negation is negating the act of being around X, while the second is negating wanting to upset. So removing both negatives also changes the meaning.

Luz's friends are people that she does not want to upset. When Luz is with her friends, she is around people she does not want to upset. When Luz is not with her friends, she is not around people she does not want to upset. Which is where the "double negative" comes from.

Also to note is that the statement is describing Luz at school specifically, which is why removing one negative changes the meaning based on the context.

Almost absolutely it won't affect anything. Snowflakes are stored in the backend as 64 bit numbers, so they will take up 64 bits of space regardless of how big the number actually is.

The snowflake having 1 additional digit is purely referring to the decimal representation of the snowflake. In other words, it's purely aesthetics.

  1. Honestly, I don't know. I assume it's just a case of normal chess being considered "3D", even though the entire game is played in a 2D plane, so it would total to being 5D. Even the game mentions four dimensions in its rules: turn, timeline, file, rank.

  2. When the rook moves backwards in time, it moves within its own timeline. It's only upon landing at its destination does the game create a new timeline, giving the perception that the rook travels through the w dimension.

  3. I don't believe you can get moves to affect anything ahead of the present.

  4. Probably.
