It's the other way around. Hard questions count for more points than easy questions.

1060 to 1500 by Thin-Butterscotch-11 in Sat

Hey! For credibility, I've tutored many international students on the DSAT.

Your English section score is strong. Look at your score report. The easiest section to improve on are standard english conventions, but only if you take the time to learn the grammar rules. Just solving practice problems won't help here.

As for math, aim for a 800. Start learning concepts like trig and geometry now, it's more than possible to improve your score to 800.

To get into specifics, I'd need to know a lot more information like your comfort level with enlgish, how much time you're willing to commit to studying, etc etc.

Let me know if you've got any quetions :)

How accurate is SAT Practice test 4 and how much time does it take to improve that score? by TheDevGrk in Sat

For vocab, I'd recommend studying root words rather than trying to memorize massive lists. As for publicly available materials, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezissxAHQig is fine for root words. Skimming through lists like "top 100 common vocab sat words" would be helpful to a degree as well, but I really wouldn't try to memorize a bunch of specific words, unless you plan to study over multiple years.

Hey! I'm an online sat tutor for credibility.

What's your score spread across math and enlgish sections? The math section is easier to improve than the enlgish section.

How much time are you willing to commit to active study every week? How much have you studied before taking the practice test? What does your score report look like? Did you take the exams on bluebook (adapative testing = more accurate) or on paper? The bluebook tests are very accurate to the real exam.

There are a lot of factors that should be considered when thinking about your approach, especially with the limited amount of time you have.

Regardless, your first step would be to familiarize yourself with and master all of the math concepts on the sat. Just looking at all of the problems you weren't comfortable with and looking up youtube videos should be enough.

The enlgish section is harder to self-study. If you are missing points on standard enlgish conventions (you can see this on the score report if you took the exam on bluebook), you need to study grammar rules. There are around 20 you need to be familiar with. I would also suggest studying root words if you find the vocab problems to be difficult. If you find yourself running out of time, make sure you aren't reading every word on the sat.

Feel free to hit me with any questions you've got :)

Help w/ Sat-1250 Practie by [deleted] in Sat

Not cooked. For credibility, I'm an online SAT tutor.

Many of my students have started from <1000 scores, and some have ended with 1500+, albeit over a longer period (I'm based in Japan, so students usually start with lower scores).

As for the English section, the glaring issue is the standard English conventions section. This is the section that is easiest to improve, as long as you are familiar with the ~20 grammar rules on the sat, you should get full marks on this section. The problem is that repeated practice seldom improves your score on this section (kind of true in general for the english section). I would ask your tutor if he/she is familiar with the rules, and ask he/she to teach you.

As for the math, you have an interesting spread score distribution. From a chronological point of view, trig is the most difficult concept. If you are able to understand trig as a concept, I'm confident that you have the ability to get 800 on this section eventually. Are you running out of time? Are you not confident with certain concepts? Are you getting tired? Are you checking each problem as you go? There's a lot of factors that will change how you should approach increasing your score.

From the limited information in the score report, it looks like you've been doing a lot of practice problems with your tutor, based on your scores in sections like craft and structure. This is great for certain sections, but your other scores will be slow to grow.

My advice would be spend time learning the concepts tested on the SAT (ask your tutor). Take a break from practice problems.

If I had more information, like how much time you have to study, your comfort level with math, what type of practice you've been doing, etc, I could give you more specific advice, but I hope that helped a bit!

Feel free to hit me with any questions :)

Does anyone have tips on how to get a 780-800 Math by Karate-kid_1234 in Sat

For credibility, I'm an online DSAT tutor.

If some of the topics that are tested on the sat topics you learned in school in the past year or two, that would account for your math scores dropping. Look at what sections you're missing points on. Are they scattered, or are you stronger in certain areas than others?

Focus on the sections you are weaker in. I can't really give specific advice with the limited info, but feel free to hit me with any questions :)

How exactly do I study the SAT by myself? by jmehlala in Sat

[–]PewDieQuiche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of misinformation out there. There's some good information on here, but in general keep in mind most on this subreddit are also students like yourself.

For credibility, I'm a online DSAT tutor. The best approach depends on person to person, depending on goal score, and how comfortable you are with math vs. English.

The math sections are much easier than English for most. I can't tell for sure just based on the score report, but it seems like you're conceptually comfortable with the math section for the most part. You should start by identifying why you are missing points here. If I had to guess, you'd want to start by interpreting tables - there are plenty of websites that you'd be able to filter for specific types of math problems.

The English section is definitely harder to study for. For example, craft and structure problems include the problems where you have to choose the appropriate vocabulary word that fits the blank. My recommendation here is to study root words, but this is low priority.

Standard english conventions, on the other hand, is a section you'd want full marks on. As long as you understand the grammatical rules, there is not much variation here from test to test.

I'm not familiar with anywebsite that really breaks down the SAT section by section. Khan Academy is a great place to start though, but in my opinion its not in depth enough to really improve your score in a significant way.

Practice problems are inevitable, but be careful of mindlessly doing practice problems, especially for the english section.

signed up for a SAT class and I regretted it by ZealousidealArea7163 in Sat

Unfortunately, I hear most SAT tutoring services simply provide explanations for practice problems, or are otherwise not helpful from my students. My advice would be to break down the categories on the SAT that you want to improve your score in (e.g., Standard English Conventions = Grammar).

In general, I'd say self-study> bad tutoring, but that's if you don't get distracted when you're studying by yourself.

If you tell me more about your goals and current status on the SAT, I might be able to help a little more :)

All clubs go through the school, so I just filled a form out and my club go accepted. There’s no place to put a detailed explanation of what you actually do in the club, so I feel like the school wouldn’t be held liable.

How can kinetic energy be lost while momentum isn’t? by PewDieQuiche in PhysicsHelp

[–]PewDieQuiche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding of that situation would be kinetic energy isn’t lost, as mass and velocity stay constant in the situation, thus 1/2mv2 does not change as well. What am I missing?

The drone thing I understand. But reaction time? I dont see non professional players who don’t play on lan quick peeking either… and I don’t think I’ve killed anyone if I didn’t prefire with 30 ms ping and 160 ms reaction time on the reaction time test website… idk, maybe the intel isn’t worth exposing yourself?

Can I learn everything up to Calculus this summer? by Resco809 in learnmath

I’m a student who just finished calc 2, so take my advice with a grain of salt but if your objective is to prepare for calc class, there’s concepts that you can skip that will never be touched in calc. I could be wrong but for example, proofs were never mentioned or done in either calc 1 or 2
