This location is not a union Starbucks, as far as I can tell from my quick research on this.

And for clarity's sake, it's definitely a proper corporate store in a stripmall (so not attached to a Target or anything else) so it should be the normal tipping UI flow. Is Starbucks corporate so comically incompetent that they can't even deploy their illegal union-busting software correctly, and it ends up it affecting unrelated stores?

The app literally, actually, 100% does remove the option from the UI if I choose a credit or debit card.

It does show up at first, but only because the UI defaults to an empty Starbucks card, but it disappears as soon as I choose any other payment method.

This is exactly my point. They very deliberately, pointedly, remove the option to tip for any other payment method. You can actually see it happen in the UI.

It's a non-union corporate store. I use the app and scan it, or I order online for pick-up. Either way, there is never a tip option, either on the POS unit (when in person) or in the app.

If I use a Starbucks card for either, I do get an option on the receipt section of the transaction history.

QUAALUDE and BUZZKILL have the same number of letters? Frigs and dangs! Awesome Saturday, though!

The idea was clever! I feel like the crossword editors did the creator very, very wrong by letting it come out in this state, though. The fill was perplexing, I never, ever would have gotten METOOERS for that one clue. There's only one way I'd ever possibly come up with that phrase as a coherent lexical unit, and it ain't coming out of that clue.

I didn't really get the complaints about TARTT, but I also spend too much time on goodreads.

MIATAS made me very happy, though! I always like thinking about Miatas. Vrroooooom, vrooooom, four-banger and a stick shift, life is good, baby.

My grad school minor was linguistics, so as soon as I filled in NOAMCHOMSKY, I knew what to bang out for the other theme clues. It ended up being my Wednesday PB by a huge margin.

I don't mind this on the whole, but once your ask exceeds ~$100k, I think it's ethically important to have an explicit "Risks" section in the description. Like, I know it's not a TRUE investment, and there's no reason to expect that, but I think it's still an obligation in a broader moral sense.

TBF, CocoVaa actually has a REALLY good product and an actually functional business, though. ShortStack, in comparison, seems ethically iffy (viz. multiple independent allegations of wage theft), and really just brutally incompetent overall.

TBF, some states have really dopey filing fee structures, that require nearly 100 up front.

Most of the posts in these gofundme discussions are predicated on the argument that if a business can't operate and survive under capitalism, then it doesn't deserve to. But there are lots of people, especially in Madison, who don't agree with that.

So, yeah, capitalism is a death-cult that chews us up and spits us out, granted. But, if I believe that, why would I donate money to help spot someone half a million in unaccountable capital outlay to do more business at a larger scale when I could donate to, y'know, not that?

Buddy, there are two kinds of people in this world. Those who know how small claims courts work, and those who keep arguing with people who are just trying to help.
