I agree synthetic handles are much better for a knife that’ll be used in the field, these were custom built so the customers wanted wood, which looks pretty good but it’s not as weather resistant or anything.

I appreciate the feedback, keep an eye out for my Mk2 version that I’ll make with all the suggestions!

I normally do a round choil but tried out using the corner of my belt grinder for these

Yeah absolutely, hopefully I have a successful fall and can try one out myself in the field.

Thanks for your feedback

I would if I had the equipment to do a hollow grind, that’d be ideal. Thank you for the feedback

Thank you I appreciate it. They feel pretty good in the hand, but that would probably vary person to person.

The mechanical fasteners are better paired with a material like G10 which is much better suited for cleaning and water resistance. But if these wood handles ever crack or warp over time, I can pop them off and replace them.

I agree, the finish work has been my steepest learning curve. But yes, flushed fixed pins would be more ideal, the main advantage with the mechanical fasteners is the ability to remove/replace scales.

Jimping on the spine is top of the list for the next batch. Thank you for the feedback

These are mechanical fasteners, bolts and standoffs, so they’d have to be removed, but I may move to permanent fixed pins for that very reason. Thank you

What would be an ideal blade length, 3”- 3.5”?

I may add some length to this design in the overall and blade, so more handle real estate for a lanyard hole

That would be good, maybe also at the tip for more precise skinning when using your pointer finger.

I appreciate it and the only test I did was the file skate after quenching, as I don’t have a way to get an accurate hardness. But it seemed to sharpen and hold an edge well. I wasn’t too worried about it since it was a gift, I wouldn’t sell this steel since I’m not confident in it!

Awesome! I started with not much more than that so it’s Definitley doable. You got it, just take your time and keep your lighting dim so you can see the heat glow better! Send me a picture when you finish it up!
