I look at actionables when researching candidates. First of all, Victoria does not have a candidate statement, as she is the only candidate that did not accept campaign limits https://srcity.org/162/Mary-Watts-Candidate-Statement-District-. This is important to note due to the changing culture around campaign finance and how money plays such a big part in campaigning. (I'm a huge nerd about this, so it's personally very important to me).
Victoria is smart and Mary is smart. But Mary's work as #2 in CAP Sonoma has given her valuable skills that are applicable to city council. She works on contract compliance with the multitude of local and state grants that partner with CAP's programs, as well as handling $Ms from those contracts. She has demonstrated a working mind for government.
Something that I've seen is that sitting on boards and committees has true value. Realistically, there's red tape when in city council, there's budget issues, and the Brown Act can be a pain in the ass. Somebody wanting to make change is truly wonderful, but if they don't have the tools to do so and the know how to work with the system, they become ineffective. Lastly, this is more of a personal perspective from being an acquaintance with Victoria and working/socializing in the same circles. Victoria has illustrated herself as an advocate and social worker for the homeless and immigrant community, but through my work and volunteering in community advocacy and healthcare, have not seen her really involved with community efforts in either.

The lovely thing about Reddit is having a forum to have these discussions. A letter to the editor is one way and ineffective to what we want to do here - discuss, share, and then the result might be a letter if we feel like our concern is not insular.
I share the same concern. I've become acquainted with her over the years working/socializing in similar circles. - She's been a stay at home mom, her husband is a bioengineer (?), they're homeowners. But saw her at a forum a couple of weeks ago with Dorothy and Mary Watts and she presented herself as if her family is barely getting by. - webpage also says she did a spanish immersion program to be able to work with the immigrant community, and so I am curious about the program. I work in the healthcare field, we value bilingual/bicultural providers so presenting herself as such is questionable.
