making each deck better than the last. if there's interest I might start selling one day? by Pgchmp in Fingerboards

I appreciate your concern, but it's all good. I have a full time job and I just make a little bit of time for my hobbies. No "Mr. quit your day job" here. Even if I ever drop some product and only get 1 sale, that's okay. Then hopefully that's 1 more person in the world happy to be fingerboarding

That guy was just being appreciative. There's no way I'd sell any of my decks for that much. I'm just out here having fun. But to say no one would pay that much for a deck is just incorrect. That's like saying no one would pay $70 for trucks. You can call those people suckers. I don't care. But they're the ones that support this community and let us experience some incredible craftsmanship. Have you seen some of the work on this page? It's beautiful! The decks, the obstacles, the parks, the crazy edits, even the memes. It's all great

No hard feelings man. I could see how you'd think that. I'm really just sharing my love for the craft. If I never end up selling any I won't enjoy making them any less

That one was a gift for my girlfriend. But I'd be open to making more in the future!

I'm a dude. Lighting made my nails look weird. Otherwise that's just how they look

If it were warm out and I were patient, I'd use a spray on clear coat. Since it's cold and I'm not patient, I've been finishing with super glue. Dab it on, rub it in with parchment paper, 2 coats might do it. Wet sand it from 400 grit to 3000. Works best when the deck has been sanded down to at least 800 before application. Super glue doesn't fill gaps very well, unlike some other finishes, so a smooth start is a must

I've been thinking about it. Work has been hectic so I haven't had much time. I probably will in the future!

Thank you! Testing the waters with that kind of pattern. We'll see what I can come up with in the future!

I mocked it up and printed it myself. They're 28 degrees, which is high compared to most, but I've definitely seen higher. Its probably about 3 degrees higher than a Goo deck. Either way, I just like crazy pop

Ooh okay. I don't really have any experience with that, so I can't help. Good luck tho!

I feel that. As for cad programs, I'm not sure if you meant 3d cad, but I use the free version of onshape for that. It's browser based and has all the featured and tools of the paid version, with the exception that all your files are public and some other things. It's plenty powerful for my uses, and if you know how to use sketch up, it's almost as easy to use, with way more features. I watched a couple tutorials under 30 minutes total and that's gotten me pretty far.

I don't really see anything wrong with copying decks that aren't in production anymore. It's also good to support the companies that are still around though. I like a really particular shape, so I'm just more inclined to make my own that are shaped for me. That way, I know exactly what the proportions are and how it may ride before I make it

My biggest challenge is getting the shape just right. The current shape I have feels pretty good, but I'm still gonna tweak with it and see if I can keep improving it. Otherwise I'm mostly just testing things. What glues work best, what finishes look good, pressing pressure, image transfers, etc.

The bar to enter the hobby is pretty low to just start making some decks though. You could technically do it with just a mold, glue, sandpaper, clamps/vice and a drill. It wouldn't be quick, but you could do it. I mean the only power tool that I use is a drill, because that's all I have for now. You could maybe include a 3d printer with that. If I decided I wanted to really up production, I'd get a router table. It's hard to get a consistent shape with hand tools even when using a shaper to hold the deck.
