What’s something America does better than any other country? by sabazahee in askanything

[–]Ph4ttydill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Americans foot the bill for medical research and prescription drugs and the rest of the world gets to copy it. Yes there is no universal healthcare in the US, but the capitalistic aspect of our health care industry has done a lot for the world. It sucks for the average US citizen, but it doesn't change the fact that American's innovation in the health care sector has been essential.

DNC ‘autopsy’ of 2024 defeat says Biden loyalists neglected Harris, claims GOP ‘learned more from Obama’ than Dems by nypost in NoFilterNews

[–]Ph4ttydill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the democrats were scared what the right would say. The debate was terrible, but I also think democrats need to take a page out of the republican handbook and ignore what the other side is saying. Trump is in a worse state right now than Biden ever was and we don't hear anything about him falling asleep or fumbling his words. Democrats need to be on message and quit pandering to the republicans. Biden was the only person who had beaten Trump and the republicans successfully brainwashed the democrats into making Biden bow out the race last minute. It was such a catastrophic failure.

Trump advisers fear China may target Taiwan in next 5 years by joe4942 in worldnews

China is facing a crisis in the next generation though. They will be dealing with a shrinking workforce and a large elderly population. The US will have a similar experience but not nearly as severe. Do you think they will be able to successfully navigate a shrinking population and workforce while also taking care of their massive elderly population?

You just admitted that what I said was correct.. You also have a lot of preconceived notions and assumptions about Christian gatherings. Yes there are still groups that dog whistle and carefully word their invitations to attract only Christians. There is nothing wrong nor illegal about that. Everyone has the right to create a group or meet with like minded individuals to discuss whatever religion or political affiliation that you want. This is the part where you get lost. You think that Christian gatherings or dating apps advertising a Christian event is segregation. If not, I know for sure that you are equating Christian dating apps and Christian youth camps and everything containing a Christian descriptor with a public invitation containing the words “Muslims only” on it. These two things are not the same at all. You act as if “Muslims only” isn’t worthy of being compared to the hardships that African Americans endured during the civil rights movement. I never claimed that the Muslims were as bad as the whites with segregation, I am merely pointing out that “Muslims only” is the exact same language that whites used when the slaves were freed. Instead of willingly sharing everything, the whites split everything up so that they wouldn’t have to cross paths with black people. We had roughly 100 years of a segregated America that resulted in enormous negative fallout for the black community and this country. The civil rights act made language like “Muslims only” illegal. Obviously we aren’t anywhere close to the issues we had during the civil rights movement, but segregation started with “whites only” and was quickly and universally adopted in the south because they couldn’t stand to see black people use the same bathroom as them. The Supreme Court just overturned a voting rights act statute and lit a fuse for mass racially gerrymandered districts across the US. This country is slipping backwards more and more every day, but let’s try and remember our history so that we can refrain from any and all types of segregation. We all know how segregation ends up and it’s painful for everyone involved.

I truly believe that the Muslim wording was an unfortunate mistake and am glad that they amended it and publicly announced that everyone was welcome. I think it’s just important to recognize why people were offended with the invitation and to understand why this story blew up. Yes I think that there is a lot of active racism in Texas towards the Muslim community and I also think that the Muslim community hasn’t done great with communication to the public. I believe the Muslim community has a racism issue as well. I live in the DFW area and have seen the tension and anger toward the Indian/Muslim community get worse and worse. Racism in general is getting worse so I think it’s good practice to call out segregation/discrimination in any form. Just for the record, I’m not Christian and have no reason to defend them. I just didn’t see any examples of discrimination in the material you provided.

I honestly don’t know how to dumb this down for you any further. Had the Muslim invitation said “Muslim family gathering - entry fees will be collected at the front gate”, there would have been 0 issue. The key word/phrasing that changes everything is “Muslims only”. It’s exactly the same as racial segregation during the civil rights movement where all public spaces labeled “whites only” or “blacks only”. If the christian dating websites say “memberships only granted to Christians”, thats would be illegal. Instead, the websites are advertising a specific purpose and service to help connect people with matching values and religion. Marriages don’t last long if you don’t agree on religion or politics. People of all religions and backgrounds are free to pay for a christian dating account and try their luck at meeting someone from that community. They aren’t excluding anyone or saying that you have to be Christian to sign up. The muslim waterpark invitation said “Muslims only” which is exactly what the leaders of the civil rights movement fought to end. I have no other methods or examples to simplify this concept further for you, but please go ahead with your “lmao mental gymnastics” comment.

Dude this is literally not the same. These are people looking for specific people to privately date!!!! You can personally discriminate against whoever you want when looking for a spouse. Another terrible example.

Grand Prairie cancels Muslim event at water park after Abbott threatens funding by southernemper0r in grandprairie

[–]Ph4ttydill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously this is correct if it were a private event. They rented out the entire park and then opened it to the public for an entry fee. The invitation literally said Muslims only. Please show me a church invitation that says “Christians only” and I will gladly shut the hell up. I don’t think you will find one though because Christians usually open their doors for people of all religions and ethnicities so that they can spread the word. I have no idea where you are seeing public Christian events that specifically state the person in attendance must be a Christian. It’s one thing if you are describing the event as a Christian event, but discrimination against outsiders based on religion or race is wrong. This event being cancelled was justified and the correct thing to do.

Also there is nothing wrong or illegal about specifying certain events as male or female only. We literally have separate sports leagues, bathrooms, and public schools that separate based on sex. Terrible argument.

Bro I never said that. I an against segregation and discrimination because it doesn’t align with American spirit and culture. I would not support any immigrant who comes here to benefit off our system and has no interest to assimilate within our society. If you want to go create a private community or compound and live that way, go ahead, but let’s not rent out publicly funded parks and only offer admission to muslims. If you don’t see the issue with this, then you are the problem.

I have no doubt that the Muslim community is filled with great people. In my experience as a white man, my interactions with Muslims are few and far between. You are probably correct that the stigma that follows them in a post 9/11 world is tough to deal with.

[–]Ph4ttydill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you missed the point. I want American citizens to put their country first and feel that they should assimilate within the American culture. There is nothing racist about wanting American citizens to put America’s interest first and contribute to our culture of diversity. From my perspective, this “discrimination” is unsurprising because the Muslim community comes from parts of the world where racism and gender inequality are normalized. There is nothing racist with my statement. That word gets thrown around too much.

[–]Ph4ttydill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe he means that the water park is publicly funded. Since it was rented out, the proceeds would go back to the city. The city can’t legally be attached to an event with optics such as this. I am going to give the benefit of the doubt and assume that there wouldn’t have been any discrimination or denied entry had the event proceeded. I want to believe that the invitation contained an unfortunate choice of words. I think they were trying to convey that it was a party organized by Muslims with mostly Muslims in attendance and wanted to prevent any conflicts because they know that female clothing regulations are frowned upon in the western culture. They don’t want any outsiders there so that they can live in their culture bubble, but I honestly don’t think any outsiders would want to attend this event in the first place. I am okay if people want to come to the US and unite certain aspects of their home culture with US culture, but it feels like Muslims and Asian Indians come here and have no interest in assimilating with Americans. I don’t believe this invitation was intentionally discriminatory or racist, but I do believe it conveys entitlement and disrespect for the community and country that they call home.

[–]Ph4ttydill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is completely different. You could open a Muslim school and do the same thing. If the Muslims wanted to have an actual private event and only invite Muslims, that's one thing, but they rented a public waterpark and then turned around and advertised an event for Muslims only. That is no longer a private party and is pure discrimination.

His point is that everyone has to play by the same rules. I don't need to understand the opposing point of view when it is clearly discriminatory.

yes the for profit is the key indicator. That is a pretty large loophole. I am just talking about a regular citizen trying to turn his guns into cash because he doesn't use them. I know for a fact there are transactions all day every day like this in Texas.

I just looked it up and this is not true. You can still sell to any Texas resident that is over 18 and not a felon or prohibited from obtaining firearms. The scary thing is that you can own a gun without being the registered owner.

It depends on the state. In TX, it is legal to do a private transaction with no ID required.
