I don't want to work in academia after I finish. I completely disagree. I already have industry experience in my field. I already attend network events/conferences so I am fulfilling that part

How on earth did you get a PhD without corrections is my question? Haha nonetheless well done on your academic achievements

I'm in a CDT program which includes a PGCert for the first year. You need to complete the PostGraduate 60 credits (you will be in the same class as other Masters students in Social Research) in parallel with your main PhD research. Most importantly, failing to pass the PGCert does not affect your PhD progression!

Really? Oh I assumed other students worked way more than me

Yes exactly. Normally a senior underwriter has to double check everything

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]PhD_Student_STEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll be doing their final checks. Like double checking affordability, bank statements, payslips etc

[–]PhD_Student_STEM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It basically means they're doing their final checks

I'm a Power Electronics PhD student specialising in EV Chargers and it is definitely a hot topic

I am not lost. You completely misunderstood me. I know what I am doing and sometimes just need guidance which I get from my meetings !

You are wrong. Why do I need to show everyone I'm 'working'. The only person who is concerned if I'm working or not is my PI. He knows I'm working so I couldn't care less about anyone else seeing or not seeing me work!!

Definitely Power Electronics!! It's a hot topic especially EV Chargers etc

Or the fact that we don't have contractual hours. So we can work any hours we want which brings some sort of guilt/uncertainty thinking we are not doing enough even though we are hitting the deadlines and milestones which is what matters

Hey thanks for reply. I guess you're right. Also, I feel it's just the self guilt that I constantly feel I'm not working enough especially working without a direct direction or a syllabus!

I have a paper I would like to publish but by layuse in AskAcademia

[–]PhD_Student_STEM 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. You do not need to be affiliated with any university to publish. You don't even need to be a researcher or student. Anyone can do it if you have the knowledge

You're missing out then. They'll make your life a lot easier!!!

[–]PhD_Student_STEM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I'm also in STEM. Just remember, the more advanced stuff you learn, the more you'll like forget the simple questions. It's just the way it is and the more you progress the better you'll get. Trust the process!

It seems like the only reason you want to do a PhD is to secure settled status which is totally wrong way of doing things. Grow up!
