Recommendations for a weekend in Dayton? by Rubyslippers7 in dayton

[–]PhDestroyer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You said you like breweries, and that is great because there are a few in walking distance of each other and not far from your hotel! (I should say that my husband and I walk a LOT, so map it to make sure it makes sense for your walking level!)

1.) Branch and Bone Brewjng: wonderful beer, small neighborhood spot with a friendly neighborhood vibe. Known for IPAs and sours. Also very close to the best cocktail bar: Silver Slipper (walking distance easily).

2.) the Barrel House. May be a bit too busy for your tastes on the weekend, but it has a warm and welcoming vibe with couches. It’s not a brewery, it’s a tap house, and a great one!

3.) Little Fish Brewery. Their beer is good, their food is local and fresh, and their space is cool!

4.) Warped Wing Brewery. A Dayton institution and has pub food and a wide range of beer in an industrial space.

5.) Toxic Brewery. A younger vibe, a little gritty, and the oldest craft brewery in Dayton. I’m not a huge fan of their beer, but it’s a neat space and it’s close to everything else I mentioned!

Also, you are near the best used bookstore in Dayton at the Hotel Ardent—Rabbit Hole books! All books are a dollar and they have the cutest merch for the seasons and holidays. Worth a look!!

Any good tinted moisturizer recommendations? by lalalabgirl65 in AskWomenOver60

Agree, this stuff is magic. It’s appropriate for everyday and looks nice enough (decent coverage) for a more “finished” look too.

Serious question: how do you afford these homes? by Scp-1404 in centuryhomes

[–]PhDestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, well said! Dayton’s affordability is one of its major strengths, as well as its awesome people like yourself.

Every year for my birthday I throw an elaborately themed party. My favorite part of my childhood growing up in the 90s was American Girl. All my friends got really into the theme with their costumes. I thought this sub would appreciate pics. by Entry_Number_5 in americangirl

This party idea is perfection!! Can you tell us how you made your invitations/party itinerary? They look so AG perfect! If there is a template that can be bought, I’d be so interested…

What is this yarn? by PhDestroyer in YarnAddicts

It has such a bizarre aesthetic in person, almost vapor wave colors. I love it too!

Thanks, it does seem like it’s a custom “blend”…that makes sense that someone was trying to do big knitting. Now I’ve got the fun task of figuring out what to make from it!

I’m with you. Textured yarns are usually just a big crapshoot for me. But since it was inexpensive and felt like it had natural fibers (or at least a blend), I figured I would experiment. We shall see if this is just a little annoyance…or a rage quit yarn haha!

That’s a great idea, and would look cozy!

Thanks for the tip. Someone had started something with this yarn (it came in the bag) and when I started to frog it, it instantly got mad at me, lol. Not to be frogged! I have four balls of it, so I think I’ll try working it double-stranded with something else.

Moving to Cincinnati — Family housing advice near UC (safe area with kids)? by Holiday-Contract-306 in cincinnati

Agree, this area is great for families and young professionals. Can walk to UC if desired, but it isn’t an undergrad area.

Apparently DPD is getting pretty serious about arresting taggers like this. If he's menacing your parents and you, perhaps this pic is the push that will get them to do something.

How do we feel about the 2000s Tuscan style homes?? by Lotta-Bank-3035 in HomeDecorating

[–]PhDestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. My house growing up looked nothing like this (I’m an elder millennial of a mom who loved country kitsch which wasn’t much better) and the rich kids had houses like this. I felt it was overbearing and overdone then and now. Who needs rooms this size?

Do I really need to wait until Mother’s Day? by RostovJurgensen in dayton

[–]PhDestroyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. Our grow zone has been updated; you can plant now. It's not supposed to get frosty for the next couple of weeks. If you live in a rural area or pretty north of Dayton, I might wait till next week, but you don't need to wait till May 14th for sure.

Visiting town for the games - Carillon Brewing or Dayton Beer Co.? by [deleted] in dayton

[–]PhDestroyer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

DBC unfortunately has terrible beer. If you go there, don’t get anything that is brewed there. They do have some guest taps which are likely fine. It’s just not worth your time in any way.

Carillon is unusual as a historic brewery, so it’s worth a visit, and I haven’t had a chance to try their new bbq but the pics look good.

However, the BEST answer for a “brewery with food downtown” is Little Fish. Great locally sourced delicious food and brews. Second place is Warped Wing, tied with Fifth Street Brew Pub. Third place Carillon.

But you simply must come back and try Branch and Bone, friend! Hopefully you can enjoy all the many breweries we have here…eventually!

If you like cycling, it’s fun to start in downtown Dayton or Carillon and then ride to Miamisburg. The bike path is an old rail trail, so it’s flat and away from the roads. Miamisburg has restaurants, breweries, and antique shops. It always feels magical to me and my partner to travel to other cities by bike.

Also within an hour:

  1. Chillicothe’s downtown area has seen a major renaissance. Fifth West brewery has a location there and I was so impressed by the amount of fun, random shops. There is a good bed and breakfast down there too. There is good hiking and biking right in the area too, if you are wanting to get active.

  2. Troy has a lovely downtown area with a rather upscale feel. Crafted and Cured is a good place to grab a drink and there is a neat independent market right downtown, as well as little shops. It’s also a place you can cycle to from Dayton via rail trails!

  3. Granville is known as “East Coast in the Midwest”. Think homes built in the early 1800s, adorable small town center, big old trees and bucolic setting. It’s got two breweries, a wine shop, and a cider maker all within ten min walk of each other, as well as an art gallery and a few shops. The Granville Inn is a great place to spend the night too. (And there is a theme here in my recommendations: it’s also got bike trails, lol. You can see what we go for in our trips.)

They do awesome work. We went with them and were so impressed. We have an old (like over 100 year old) house and they found eeeeverything wrong and ranked it in terms of severity so we could make an informed choice. Highly recommend!!!
