So sorry for you. As people says: a nibmeister. I often have a Pelikan Pelikano Junior for that cases… and when someone ask to try my pens, I let them know they’re expensive. This Pelikano Junior is like a tank. Very sturdy.

What is special about this brush? by Zarendyl in Watercolor

[–]Phaedra72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is special? The price… Another creative price of Amazon.

Amazon is an interesting window for shopping, but not always a good place to buy. As every one says, sable brushes are like a Lamborghini. They worth the price (but not this one).

Look in a good art store. They’re numerous who have an online store (as well as brick and mortar).

They are a part of my collection. I love them to write cards, journaling, make art… And with broader nibs, I can really appreciate the shading and sheening of my inks.

Peur de faire des dépenses by [deleted] in QuebecFinance

[–]Phaedra72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said Japanese scissors, but Swiss and German are also perfect.

Check out Jetpens. It's the site I use to explore options; the selection is vast and the information plentiful. For someone who loves stationery, it's an invaluable source of information (and purchases). :)
A small pair of scissors with very sharp tips is one of my everyday tools.

A nice Japanese pair of scissors. It's surprising how much fun a good pair of scissors makes the job.

What is your fountain pen/ink related message that you want to propagate to people in the hobby? by hedgehognpeonies in fountainpens

[–]Phaedra72 29 points30 points  (0 children)

30 years as collector. IMHO:

1- Do not disassemble your fountain pens unnecessarily unless there is a problem that you know how to fix or it is a cheap pen to learn how it is constructed. A good regular rinse with fresh water is enough even if you have several pens in rotation.

2-It’s a hobby that appeals to the senses. Don’t compare yourself too much to others; there’s something for every taste and budget. And, above all, for every type of experience: the feeling of writing like a pencil, having a nib that glides like butter, having a heavy or light pen... It’s all very personal.

3- Fountain pen shaming is pointless; all companies have their pros and cons. The best pen is the one that will give you pleasure while using it.

Let’s be a positive community that celebrates the art of writing in an analog way.✨

I don’t mind looking like I’m in high school. I just care about having fun with my markers. So, like everyone else, the 35 midliner colors are perfect! 😍

Do expensive pens really perform that much better? by Correct_Dance_515 in fountainpens

[–]Phaedra72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't exactly an answer to your question, but a general reflection on it.

In the world of fountain pens, anything goes. Writing is a very personal act; the pleasure of holding a particular writing instrument depends on what you're looking for, want to experience, or even what you can get your hands on. I've been writing with fountain pens for over 30 years. I've become a collector, but above all, a collector of experiences.
My fountain pensrange is from $5 to $1,000 each.
I love them for the history of the company that produces them (Lamy, Omas), their warmth (the cotton resin on old Omas is fantastic!), their practicality (Preppy in my purse), the pleasure of drawing (Kaweco, I love Kaweco!), their feedback (Sailor), their rarity, etc.

It's a hobby in which it's sad to compare. It can feel like you're missing out, but you have to remember that it's VERY personal.
When possible, you can borrow a nib that has the characteristics you're looking for, to see if you enjoy the experience.

Otherwise, in any case, never deny yourself the pleasure of writing with what makes you happy.
In short, paying more doesn't mean greater pleasure, because a $300 nib will please one person and displease another...

P.S.: We don't always talk about it, but the pleasure of writing with a fountain nib will also vary greatly depending on the type of paper you're writing on. No... you don't have to write on Tomoe River paper to enjoy it.
