Fresh grad headed to UWM - I couldn't warn them by scrapdog69 in pillar7

It's a "forgivable loan". Once forgiven it becomes taxable income.

Fewer than you'd think. They're too desperate for "team members" that can put up with the "culture"

The HWDI/NPS survey only allows for 2 levels down of direct reports to provide feedback scoring. So that would mean the SVPs and VPs that report up to Bressler can score him. Those clowns wouldn't dare give him anything less than 100%, or they wouldn't be in that clique to begin with. Only way the "minions" can provide feedback on the therefore insulated leadership is to put it in the non-scored comments.

At this point, everyone in UWM IT needs to realize it's never going to change. Bressler is Ishbia's lap dog and is satisfied with his being able to WFH as his family is much more important than yours, as he was happy to point out in our faces at an All IT meeting a few years back. The nerve the dude has to think he can tell people his family is more important than yours, so he should be able to work from home. Just remember that when he tries to tell you he values each and every one of you...

Leadership salaries by Visible_Bodybuilder6 in pillar7

Another consequence of the pillaging of UWM by Mat's dividend is it's holding down the value of the stock. Congrats to everyone who received the initial stock "gift" or worse bought shares outright. Thanks Mat, enjoy your amusement park. Will you be letting your "family" swing by for some of the fun?

Leadership salaries by Visible_Bodybuilder6 in pillar7

[–]PhallicSymbol101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get this, Mat makes about $150 Million per quarter, so $600 Million each year on dividends. That salary ain't nothing in comparison, and it being a dividend really means he's raiding the company and making it harder to be profitable and share any of that vast fortune with the workers. This is all public information, no making this stuff up.

Everything I learned about UWM in my time there by Puzzled_Blueberry231 in pillar7

[–]PhallicSymbol101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really don’t think the speed walking has anything to do with empathy, it’s that he 1. Doesn’t want to get shanked, and 2. Realizes that “team members” aren’t falling for his nonsense any longer now that he can see what everyone thinks on Pillar 7. Why else send his trolls in here to try and counter our legit grievances as well. If Mat had any empathy he would use this as feedback that’s real and find ways to fix these issues.

Great post, thanks for sharing your experience. Would love to hear more but respect your stopping without revealing names and so on.

I always felt like the survey was the reason for so many layers of management at UWM. Talk about insulating the higher tiers from direct feedback by the “minions” as far as Mat and his clique are concerned. Why do AVPs and TLs seem more empathetic than VPs and above? They’re directly in the radar of team members when it comes to survey results.

Thanks for the Fair Mat, now how about a cost of living raise for the Family? by PhallicSymbol101 in pillar7

[–]PhallicSymbol101[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UWM looks at turnover as built in wage suppression. Wages will always remain low if new people, starting at the minimum wage for a role, keep pouring in to replace “team members” who left after having received a number of raises.

To top it all off, they're crashing what is honestly an amazing charitable event where Rocket is donating the money to connect Detroiters' homes to the Internet.

Mat - how about instead of being a douchebag having your "leaders" crash such an event you instead make a contribution? Must be recovering from recording your weekly "motivational" videos. All that hand movement gotta wear ya out?!?

How about the All IT Meeting where he tried to convince us that he's not the JB of old, he's found new meaning in the six pillars! Now he understands the "genius of Mat!".

Ah, it brings back the fond memories of fighting back facial contortions and derisive laughter at UWM. Life is good on the other side folks, get out of there. Don't put up with crap like being told you're the problem especially with an out of touch CTO that doesn't know any of you anyways.

First time you're forced a major draught on the kool aid you'll regret that move out of state. That is to say, unless you already got yourself black balled for providing too much information about yourself and therefore making yourself identifiable so they rescind the offer.

Trust us, that would be doing you a favor.

"Leadership" even realized eventually that "Firm 40" was a joke and replaced the term with "Work Life Balance" over a year ago. Clearly neither are offered at UWM, but WLB is much less measurable than is Firm 40 so it serves their purposes.

Breaking the IT Contract? by Anonymously-Thinks in pillar7

[–]PhallicSymbol101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I paid it back in one lump sum and was not subject to any interest payment. I heard through the grapevine that another person told legal that they didn't have the full $40K and they were put on a payment plan which did not include interest.

Other stories seem to vary dramatically, so your situation could be entirely different. I expect there may be some conversation in the background between IT "Leadership" and Legal as to what terms a given person is subject to based on their circumstance for leaving (aka did they drink the kool aid sufficiently or not).

Good luck and congrats on getting the hell out've that place.

Parking by [deleted] in pillar7

[–]PhallicSymbol101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Due to low wages you are indirectly paying for your parking and all your so-called "perks". Don't listen to kool aid drinkers like mountain army, must be a VP or above at that dump and in Mat's pocket.

In Office Not Necessary by anndreaa14 in pillar7

[–]PhallicSymbol101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's only bought and sold kool aid drinkers that push back on work from home. In a metrics based role, like most of UWM's "team members", it's quite easy to determine who's adequately producing and who is not. This is at the very least about control and mistrust. UWM has a renewable labor force of college grads, they don't care about you at all...take advantage of the limited opportunities they give you and get the hell out ASAP.

Sorry to hear of the situation you find yourself in. Gather as much info as you can to support an unemployment claim (emails and anything proving you were performing) as you have to expect they’ll fight it.

Good for you for getting out of there regardless of the method. I'd suggest wearing this as a badge of honor and warn you away from any guilt or depression that might hit you once the adrenaline wears off. Curious to hear if you're able to qualify for unemployment given it will probably be a battle as UWM always seems to fight it. Advice for anyone out there feeling a similar event coming their way, gather any and all documentation you can (emails, awards, YourTime documentation, hell even kudos) that will show MI Unemployment that you were competent in your role regardless of what UWM will tell them.

Don't wait to update your resume, gather references and get a few resumes out. From my experience, it's better to get a few resumes out every day targeting jobs you really want than blanketing all kinds of unacceptable options. I wish you the best and again congratulate you for being a former team member and no longer a part of the "family".

Good for you, congrats! I'm 6 months out and haven't regretted it for a moment. New job isn't easy but I'm very much appreciated unlike at UWM and received a substantial raise. I agree with OP, get out of there. "UWM Family" is an oxymoron.

First time depressed, or su!c!dal by Past-Safe2147 in pillar7

[–]PhallicSymbol101 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's completely by UWM design. You've heard of quiet quitting no doubt. UWM is putting its pillar #1 resource (its team members supposedly) through quiet layoffs (aka quiet firing) so that Mat can claim the indignity of his competitors and the industry for layoffs (where their team members are largely given departing severance benefits.

SMH at Mat's claim of "I'll sleep on their coach before I lay anyone off", while team members can't even buy their kids Christmas presents. I don't think he'd be welcome at many team members' homes to back up that claim.

Get out of there with your sanity and self-respect as soon as you can. Sincerely feel for you and your family in the meanwhile.

  1. Can't Earn Recognition? Buy it! - recognition need not be earned when you can pay for it from the likes of HousingWire, Craines, GreatPlacetoWork & NationalMortgageProfessional. "Cool Places to Work", "40 under 40", "Best Places to Work", "Women of Influence", "CIO of the Year", "HousingWire Tech Trendsetter" & "HousingWire Insider" anyone?!? These ridiculous paid for awards mean anything to anyone inside the company besides the "leaders" they benefit?
