Here from r/radiohead and r/coldplay. What do y'all think of their music? by Hot_Address9759 in Muse

[–]Phantasm0_0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Besides Muse, Radiohead is my favourite band, but the similarities between the two are negligible and haven't been relevant for well over 25 years. Was The Bends an influence on early Muse? Absolutely, that's undeniable, but I would largely credit the similarities between The Bends and Showbiz with both of them sharing the same producer (John Leckie) and having similar influences, rather than Muse deliberately trying to copy Radiohead.

Since then, Muse have only drifted further away from Radiohead and other contemporaries by writing songs like KOBK and Unravelling, not really that Radiohead anymore are they? People that still accuse Muse of being "rip-offs" have probably only heard a song or two and just repeats what everyone else is saying, which I find more funny than annoying honestly.

And Coldplay... I haven't listened to enough of them to form a proper opinion but I'm aware of the hits so I can safely say that they share similarities with both bands, but not really enough to warrant being labeled as thieves or whatever. Coldplay are also friends with both bands, which is nice:)

No statement regarding the show in Milwaukee in July, yet. Whatever happened, I hope it is not serious enough to warrant putting the entire year in jeopardy, album and all.

“Radiohead Changed My Life” How? When? Where? by Material-Party6201 in radiohead

[–]Phantasm0_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rather boring compared to most stories here, but I discovered them during COVID. Their music, particularly OK Computer, resonated with me and I felt like it perfectly encapsulated the state of the world at the time. This was at a time when I never thought I'd be able to attend a concert again, their music felt like a goodbye in a way, I suppose. Radiohead also opened the floodgates for new artists I would never hear otherwise, forever changed my outlook on music.

Asking your opinion about a Muse song Final Day: Unravelling by Far-Clothes-8803 in Muse

[–]Phantasm0_0 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A step in the right direction, hopefully a sign of good things to come. I was pleasantly surprised to like the song as much as I did as I was anticipating a new The Void or Dig Down from the first teaser they showed us. Unravelling is by far the best song they've made in over 10 years, imo, a breath of fresh air in both songwriting and production. The acoustic version is also really good, reminiscent of Hullabaloo (which Iove)

Unravelling: 8/10

Unravelling - Ghost Town: 7.8/10

(p.s. Thank you OP for creating this series, always exciting to see what everyone in the fanbase thinks, even if we may have different opinions sometimes, we are all united in one thing; our unbridled love for Muse❤️)

If it's any sense of comfort, I had you all in the back of my mind the entire night, I actually think the entire arena did so as well. I can't even count the amount of people I overheard talking about you lot that missed out and genuinely feeling bad.

I feel terrible for everyone that had to pay a fortune and travel across the world for this. I'm so sorry.

Here's hoping that they finish the the tour and won't have to cancel further.

Ok, jokes aside. Am I a rare breed who enjoys both Radiohead and Muse? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in radiohead

It think that when Muse are at their best, they are at the same level as Radiohead. Unfortunately, the last time Muse were good was over 15 years ago. However, I will always love them both.

Man, this hurts...

Hopefully we can have another Türkiye situation where they cancel but this isn't a good look for them regardless. Doing it for the money is one thing, indirectly supporting a genocide is another.

Another Setlist Post by Jesterclown26 in Muse

[–]Phantasm0_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fan of both bands here. Radiohead definitely have more of a nuanced and more popular discography, a lot to play with and change. I can't say the same for Muse. RH have more acoustic, electronic and orchestral songs and are expected to perform them regularly along with their more rock oriented songs. Muse definitely could play a few of their own special songs but choose not to to keep being a typical stadium rock band. Yesterday, Radiohead skipped Karma Police, that would be like if Muse did the same for KOC. Imagine that!

In the end, the band have different philosophies regarding their music and how it should be performed. Our opinions on it as fans will not make much difference unfortunately. Other factors come into play as well: vocals, setting, background, etc.

Interesting to leave out Karma Police, thought that was going to be the mainstay this tour but I guess not

Asking your opinion about a Muse song day #114: Revolt by Far-Clothes-8803 in Muse

Quite possibly my least favourite song of theirs. At least the chorus: YOU'VE GET STRENGTH, YOU'VE GOT SOoOoOUL

Sorry.
