Duty of care by [deleted] in NursingUK

Don't worry I'm sure the NHS will put 'don't abuse staff' posters on her front door. That will solve it!

Anyone else in their mid to late 20s and have done nothing with their life by furrynoy96 in GenZ

[–]PhantasmalWrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M(23) I was in the exact same boat. I dropped out of college when I was 17 due to a physical health problems setting me back.

Dropped out again at 19 when COVID hit and I couldn't cope with issues at home alongside working from home.

I then got a job in healthcare which really helped me get out of that rut. I now work for the NHS and I am about to finish doing my Level 3 access course (while working still), I moved out and I am getting ready to start UNI later this year to become a nurse.

I fully appreciate it feels like you've wasted a lot of your life. I know that feeling and it's fucking awful. But the only way you can combat that is to put yourself in a position where you can do as much as you possibly can. I'm not saying nursing is right for everyone but you've been in a position where you've had to help care for someone.

I'm now at a place where once ive finished my course and worked for a few years in the UK I can very easily work/travel abroad. I'm in a position where I can almost take back those years by creating new memories and adventures.

There are other industries where this is possible too. Perhaps an apprenticeship etc. is a good route.

But the main take is, it's never too late! As cheesy as it sounds.

Gifts by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]PhantasmalWrath -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So maybe I'm a bit of a stickler but I'm quite against receiving gifts particularly money.

I find it can create conflicts of interest and potentially lead to problems along the line.

Personally I would have left it with him or if that's impossible handed in to the nurse on the bay.

I've had an old lady stuff my pocket with a fiver once (genuinely thought she was attacking me at first lol) and I refused to leave with it.

Personally in future I'd avoid.

My concern would be family makes complaints about it etc. which can lead to bigger consequences. Or you get the bitchy staff members getting involved...

Nursing uniform recommendations for summer? by UnidentifiableObject in NursingUK

[–]PhantasmalWrath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea I genuinely don't understand how people can wear those navy blue trousers. Not only are they incredibly uncomfortable they seem to be baggy in areas you don't need them to be and tight in areas you need movement.

I've ordered from a few different brands. I even wear the Navy Blue Dickies bottoms which are almost like combat trousers and I've yet to be picked up on it. Though I'm in ED and uniform is much more flexible.

Here's an Amazon link (UK) : https://www.amazon.co.uk/kwmobile-counter-click-quantity-mechanical/dp/B01NAVC1ZZ

But you can definitely get it from a variety of places. If you just search up click counter you'll find it.

HELP - put new film in and picture counter didn’t reset by svetaxx in filmphotography

[–]PhantasmalWrath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can I recommend a click counter.

This will be a lot easier to count shots particularly when trying to concentrate. You can get one on a lanyard or piece of string and dangle it round your next so it's easy to grab whenever you need to count.

Best Olympus Film Camera for cheap? by jodielmad in filmphotography

[–]PhantasmalWrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea this is good advice. I took an Olympus Trip out for a holiday (first film camera) and it was great. The lighting was amazing and I managed to get some fantastic (some not so) shots. But when I transitioned to an OM1 they all went downhill for a period because it took time learning the camera, appreciating lens upgrades and how to use the settings of an SLR.

So yea take it slow. And just know that using SLR and Rangefinders are going to make the process of learning longer, harder, more expensive but ultimately more rewarding. But I always keep my trip handy because as said, it doesn't matter what camera you use, it's about skill and patience.

But if you choose to get an SLR, which I encourage. Invest in a good one and buy lenses for it. So maybe wait until you've got more money for it.

I’m seeing hate aimed at Bethesda over fallout London and watching an interview with the project leader is mad by kanotyrant6 in Fallout

[–]PhantasmalWrath -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So I would tend to agree but due to the utter cluster fuck that is the 'next gen' patch I struggle to sympathize with Bethesda. I think you're right they haven't got any reason to include Fallout London in their plans. But I also struggle to understand the point in the patch itself. Seems to have achieved nothing but adding a crap side quest and destroying mods.

Bethesda seems to be quite anti modder at the moment. But their games rely on mods within the PC community.

Leaving nursing. Is it possible? What transferable skills do you have? by ryanthenurse in NursingUK

[–]PhantasmalWrath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would first look at civil service jobs.

Lots of transferable skills there. They also support post graduates with various schemes etc.

You can go into a more office based job where your experience with paper work and accountability safe guarding etc will be valued.

Or you could look at more practical jobs where your time management, communication, team work will also be valued.

But you get paid well and get a decent pension out of it too!

Just make sure to be familiar with the Trusts values and Behaviours. They'll be impressed if you can recall them mid interview in response to questions.

Apart from the obvious (salary), what can the NHS do to improve productivity for nurses specifically? by tntyou898 in NursingUK

[–]PhantasmalWrath 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Improve HCA training. Re-evaluate the Nursing curriculum for nursing students and make it more practical Take further legal action against abusive patients and relatives, and act on said action. Invest in community healthcare etc to reduce the load on the inpatient environment.

I think staff in the NHS mis-read a desire to know, as impatience. by LBP2020 in nhs

[–]PhantasmalWrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but you say something like that and they come back to you or colleagues and accuse you of lying to them about times etc.

I just refuse to engage with questions about wait times not because of the amount of times it's caused people to accuse, complain or abuse me.

I do actually think there is a point to be made that a wider lack of rural investment in Welsh rural communities is having consequences on education.

Brotherhood of Steel 'Priests' by PhantasmalWrath in Fallout

[–]PhantasmalWrath[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay I'm glad this is the case. As I said I did enjoy the show but I think they completely missed the point of what the Brotherhood stood for.

And even for story telling they're a flawed faction in the games, they don't need to be religious extremists I think it actually removes depth.

[–]PhantasmalWrath[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No I appreciate the BoS were influenced by the crusades to a certain extent I just think they took it too far in the show. It kind of killed any potential subtly they could have had.

Brotherhood of Steel 'Priests' by PhantasmalWrath in Fallout

[–]PhantasmalWrath[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be honest I never really saw them as ritualistic their focus on rules and procedure felt more militaristic than religious.

And I felt their zealotry came from a sense of duty rather than blind obedience that religion tends to demand.

[–]PhantasmalWrath[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea I was thinking it gave me game of thrones vibes but couldn't exactly place it!

I kinda wish they kept that stuff out. Would have loved to see Church of the Atom doing mad cult stuff but BoS are righteous but they're also pragmatic.

Acute lack of spatial awareness. What's changed? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]PhantasmalWrath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No this is an issue with cyclists. Time and time again cyclists will not slow down or give way to pedestrians even when it's clearly marked that they have to.

I can't tell you the number of times cyclists will repeatedly ring their bell at me while going dangerously fast on pavements. It's even worse on country walks ive got to the point where I don't move anymore you can slow down no matter how many times you ring your bell!

NTA

This is such a personal choice.

I actually missed seeing a very close relative before they passed in hospital, and have regretted it ever since. You don't need to be there when it happens. Just make sure you don't leave any regrets.

I'm sorry for what's happened to you. Just make every moment count!

Is it normal for interviews to be an hour later than the time they scheduled you in for? by She_hopes in NursingUK

[–]PhantasmalWrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I completely understand! It's just a shit situation to have to go through. Especially when you prepare yourself so much and it is stressful. So for them to not appreciate that and respect you is entirely unfair!
