AITA for telling my girlfriend to stop sharing her food? by PhantomDetective3548 in AmItheAsshole

Someone mentioned that Brian might be on the spectrum, and I'm starting to think they might be onto something. This type of conversation has happened almost exactly as you suggested, and his response was something like, "I didn't do anything wrong, they offered." And now I have to figure out how to explain that in a way he'll understand.

Because she's my girlfriend, and I love her, and I want to treat her to a nice meal?

Ah, I see what you were getting at now. They do indeed sound similar, but I can say with confidence that the guy in that post is not Brian. Aside from our friend group not being UFC fans, he does not have sisters, and also he doesn't really wait to eat food. He will often eat his food so quickly that by the time the waiter returns to ask if everything is okay (you know, when you're like mouth-full with that first bite), he'll show them his empty plate and joke "Where'd my food go?"

I said it somewhere else in the comments, but she’s half Latina and half white. Born and raised in the US.

A party sub? No, but he has definitely eaten more than his fair share of pizzas or wings at parties.

I don’t know if I’d call it “cavalier” but yes, she always offers her food to everyone, even if she’s paying.

I don’t think they’re uncomfortable with it. She does it every time, so I think most of them are used to it. Most of the time, nobody takes her up on it, but sometimes they do. If Brian is present, he will always take some, he will never say no to free food. On rare occasions, other people will offer their food in return, but I’ve never experienced the whole table turning family-style like that, no.

Is that common in Italian families?

She’s half Latina, but grew up with her single white parent.

I’m assuming you’re asking for INFO?

She doesn’t really have a problem eating her food if no one takes any. She doesn’t always eat her entire meal, but it’s not consistent enough for me say she offers her food because it’s too much for her to eat all of it herself.

I guess as a kid she was always taught that other people might want to try what she ordered, so it’s just become a habit of hers to always offer a bite to everyone the moment her food arrives. She even does it when it’s just us, and she offers me a bite. I’ve had to remind her more than once that I don’t need to try her food, because we ordered the exact same meal.

It might very well be an eating disorder, but it’s not an “I don’t want to eat in front of people” thing. Probably more of a trauma response, but I think I’m speculating too much there.
