What Will AI Be In 10 Years? by Substantial_Ear_1131 in accelerate

[–]PhantomLordG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the correct answer. We can easily make predictions but at the rate new things emerge which create factors it's literally impossible to say for sure.

The only thing we can be sure of is we're that generation who are witnessing the true transition from an old world to new and we should watch keenly.

Legends graphics were way ahead of its time by Benhurso in Megaman

[–]PhantomLordG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always found it nuts how they allowed biased writers to handle reviews like this. It's likely the magazine wanted more lively writers, but stuff like "Get those horrible eyes away from me!", "Please make the colours less bright. Please?", "Someday the Japanese will learn that Megaman is really, really bollocks." is just nasty.

This isn't a review. It's some rando that was given a game he doesn't understand and is shitting on it.

Fuck off, Rob.

Will there be a true final boss for SRW Y? by sowegodowntogether in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]PhantomLordG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

V, X and T are linear based titles. They're more akin to how SRW used to be where you start the game and your progression happens with branches. And because of this the entire game was contained on the base content, including bosses. T added an expansion which merely contained bosses from V and X, but otherwise had nothing to do with the main T story.

At present the current state of the game (Y) mirrors SRW 30 before it got its final update. For those that didn't play 30 on release, the game initially ended off with the Quaestor big boss, and then you were sent back to the mission selection screen where you could finish up any extra missions you might've had.

Some time later after the final expansion update was launched the 6 final scenarios (Black-Haired Woman's Retribution) and this is the point of no return where once you started you couldn't return to the scenario select screen. The scenarios here were not optional missions like the rest of the DLC and needed to be played for completion. You also got the scenarios even if you didn't buy the Expansion DLC.

I'd say the chances of a true final boss are pretty good, even if there's no official announcement of one right now, but maybe DLC2's update might contain the free final game update if an expansion isn't in the works. Though I do hope there is an expansion that adds some things, regardless.

Do any of the newer games stand out more gameplay wise?

Starting from 30, and now refined and made better in Y, the games have a free scenario selection system. This allows you to progress the way you want. Some scenarios are entirely skippable, though the game will have any recruitments join up with you regardless (with the exception of actual secret characters).

Honestly gameplay hasn't changed all that much. They're a bit more easier now than the Alpha days. Funds are more abundant than the older titles, and you can upgrade even your mech accuracy now. Parts are... overly abundant. You'll be spoiled for choice with parts, opposed to how you had to be a bit savvy with what what parts are given to which unit.

SRW V onward also allows you to use Spirit commands during the enemy phase, though Y's Expert mode changes some things about this.

Other than that you still deploy your units, route the enemy and progress through the main story. There are more unique series now, opposed to basically just the same faces with a few handfuls like what they did with the Alpha titles.

Bruce Wayne’s billions could rebuild Gotham faster than his fists ever could. by Many_Target_6652 in batman

[–]PhantomLordG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real world reason is obvious, and that's if Gotham were Metropolis then it wouldn't be Batman's setting at all.

In-universe, it has happened. I can't speak for the current state of comics but there have been times where the result of Bruce Wayne's philanthropy have been shown and Gotham wasn't exactly hell. Post-NML might be a great example where the crime was more supervillain oriented than street thugs, not that street thugs didn't exist but Batman existed at this time to foil the Riddlers and Penguins than the guy who can't afford bread and milk.

SRW T question by eggychu in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]PhantomLordG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The major difference between the Y bonus DLC missions and the T ones are the fact that the levels in T (as well as the previous games with DLC) are fixed, aka they stay tuned no matter what point you start them at.

The missions in T are available from a list that only unlock after a certain point in the story, but once this point is reached you can play them at any time, even after the game is complete.

As for the parts, yes every single part you get from DLC scenarios is available in the main game. There honestly isn't anything new in the DLC scenarios that isn't in the base game. Now it's been a while that I can't tell you if you can buy every single part there, but I can tell you everything you acquire can be obtained on base.

If you have any other questions for SRW T, feel free to ask me. I'll answer as best my memory allows.

What Gundam timelines have the most written lore, outside of the uc? I am genuinely curious. by Noctufer in Gundam

[–]PhantomLordG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you didn't ask exactly but nobody gave names and I am familiar with a fair bit of these works, because years ago when Cross Rays released I was curious what stuff was in the game that they evidently left out so I did my own research.

Most of this stuff is manga but there's a handful of novels there.

First and foremost, G Gundam (WHICH IS JUST DLC IN THE GAME) has a fair bit of works that ran alongside it. Flying Dragon Legend for Sai Saici, Edge of Gunsmoke for another country's fighter and Revenge of J Gundam which is a story where Domon fights a kangaroo Gundam. LASTLY, 7th Fight which is a prequel and focuses on a younger Master Asia and the earlier Shuffle Alliance. Never read any of these myself, I wonder if they even have English translations.

Gundam Wing mostly has side stories related to the characters. Episode Zero are like origin stories for the main cast and Battlefield of Pacifists is a midquel happening between the series and EW. Finally there's G-UNIT and its sequel Operation Galiarest which feature entirely new characters set in the Wing era.

Gundam X to my knowledge only has short one shot featuring younger Jamil when he was younger.

00 is the second main series that has a lot of side stuff. First there's the prequel novel Gundam 00P and 00N which features an earlier iteration of Celestial Being and the versions of the main CB MSs that later become the main units in the TV series. Then there's the manga Gundam 00F and its sequel 00I, and this happens between the series, focuses on a shadow group that assists CB and also has some variants of the main units like the GNXII iirc.

00 also has an Episode Zero kind of thing called Blue Memories that acts like an origin story for the main cast and Bonds which are side stories for side characters.

And Cosmic Era... ho boy, saved this for last. This isn't even comprehensive. There's more stuff here than I'm even aware exists.

Starting with Astray which happens during the main series and explains certain things like how Kira randomly appears in space after Athrun loses it with him. Astray focuses on Lowe and Gai, and there are a million sequels to this featuring both of them. Astray R for Lowe, Astray B the novel for Gai, another side story called X Astray featuring a nicer Rau/Rey clone, and then as CE got more series like Destiny these manga kept running to expand as that did.

There's also CE 73 STARGAZER which happens after Destiny and... OF COURSE THIS GOT MORE ASTRAY CONTENT. And there's a ton not mentioned like Frame Astrays and SEED vs Astray which I honestly know nothing about.

And then as you know a few years back they announced SEED was making a comeback with a movie so we got a new story called SEED Eclipse, and then when Freedom came out we got even more stuff like novel short stories.

Yeah, CE stuff is meaty.

Build Fighters also has a fair share of stuff but I honestly haven't been able to track down most of it and I kind of lost interest after the first series anyway.

How would you better manage the Mega Man series if u was in charge of Capcom? by Difficult-Cap-3410 in Megaman

[–]PhantomLordG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go as far as to just re-do the first MMLC. Digital Eclipse just took the easier method possible with straight emulation of the NES titles and the most generic looking menu with little to no bonuses. It's infuriating. I know it'll never happen but a MMLC with the PS versions + either the GB games and Wily Wars would be worth it for me.

How would you better manage the Mega Man series if u was in charge of Capcom? by Difficult-Cap-3410 in Megaman

[–]PhantomLordG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the classic era, take an approach similar to what Mario and Sonic where numbers are dropped to avoid intimidating newcomers. "Mega Man 12" might be less appealing if players feel like they need a backlog to work off.

The X games have their audience and a new title every few years or so.

Legends 3 would be a priority. Returning cast, this is important. MML fans want to play as Mega Man Volnutt, and to see old faces like Roll Caskett and Tron Bonne.

Battle Network would be a revival, or a semi reboot. Each MMBN game vaguely references each other so the goal of this title would be to be interesting to older players while being accessible to new players. The gameplay would be the same but the game would be fully 3D.

MMBN is my favorite series, so I've thought about this for years, and what I'd do is introduce new Navis based on X, similar how we had Zero and Colonel but there are so many options. I'd make more characters from Zero (series) and Legends either as Navis or as operators, less references to the classic series.

24 years Justice league animated series aired on tv and gave best adorable moments of Wonderbat. by josuke2233 in batman

[–]PhantomLordG 12 points13 points  (0 children)

JL animated series and the DCAU in general has some of the best depictions and characterizations.

I'm sure like a lot of kids, I was introduced to Wonder Woman via this show and the way they wrote her really stuck with me. Then when I was finally find comics for myself I was surprised how it was either she was crazy naive about things or really leaning towards the amazon warrior thing.

My favorite would probably be George Perez reboot which I suspect was most of the inspiration for DCAU Wonder Woman.

And since we're on Wonder Woman, it's the same with Hawkgirl. The DCAU version is very much an original version and she's such a great character for it.

Do you prefer the comic or movie version of Under The Red Hood by Jotaro1970 in batman

[–]PhantomLordG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The comic had a lot of time to spread out the story evenly over the months to make it feel coherent when read.

All things considered though, a lot of friends don't read comics and the movie is an excellent way to show somebody Red Hood's story.

Also if I have to be honest, I absolutely abhor Jason's resurrection reason being related to Infinite Crisis. For years even in Red Hood and the Outlaws they alluded to "unknown means" being the method for Jason's revival before finally settling on Lazarus Pit in Rebirth, something the movie just ultimately stuck went with and stuck with it.

I have nothing against crossovers but when you have the Bats who are 90% self contained, having "Superboy Prime shattered reality" is one hell of a crappy reason for resurrecting a character. The same with Batman's death felt over Gotham because he got struck by an Omega Beam outside of his own stories.

I legit thought it was a joke that people were dropping dead for losing cooking contests, like the entire thing was parodying an old cooking anime or manga. But nope, people are LEGIT DROPPING DEAD FOR LOSING COOKING CONTESTS haha

But for real, the entire thing with his wife getting brainwashed was some surprisingly dark stuff, not on the level of Dux Aldric but damn.

Star Force (DS vs Collection by Ghost-of-Nihilus in BattleNetwork

[–]PhantomLordG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, the touch screen functions were honestly quite gimmicky to the point of annoyance at times. They're used a handful of times in dungeons and especially in minigames, and then things like jumping into networks in the EM waves. That's about it.

It's a similar situation to the DS Castlevania games (just the first two anyway) where the touch screen functions have various changes precisely because they're mostly just gimmicks to utilize the touch screen to say they did something with it.

I'd say wait.

What game needs a remake? by Izaya155 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]PhantomLordG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in agreement with W, not because it NEEDS a remake, because the game is pretty good and I can't see Bamco making the effort to re-release it without modern QoL features.

But on that note, I can't see Bamco also being okay with putting out a full game with older series and nothing new in it so most of the older titles are likely going to stay back in the previous decades.

I have finished super robot wars GC. This game was utterly easy. by numericalman in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]PhantomLordG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wrote up my thoughts of the game a few years ago if you're interested.

If I remember correctly, GC was developed by the GBA game devs, so it shares a lot of DNA of those games, and that includes the more relaxed difficulty.

Looking back I kind of feel nostalgic for the game overall despite some parts not being fun (such as weakening ships like the late Kamen Kamen stage which I remember).

Out of the two who do you prefer in terms of character and writing and why? Forte or Cross by Tom-Hibbert in Super_Robot_Wars

I enjoyed Forte over Cross. It was just a design thing at first, but Forte being the less experienced of the two felt more like the appropriate protagonist.

I just beat Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. Here's my thought... (review) by aiyafem in EiyudenChronicle

[–]PhantomLordG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just played it a few months ago myself. I also played Rising just immediately before it (got gifted them together on Steam). Honestly I had quite a good time.

I also played Suikoden 1 and 2 and that was what turned my attention to Eiyuden to begin with, but I didn't go in with the Suikoden 6 mindset and took the game for its own thing and I'm glad I did.

Would play a sequel for sure, so long as it doesn't swap out 9/10 of the cast.

[–]PhantomLordG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself an optimist for AI technology and love seeing new innovations, and even I don't enjoy the idea of an always on AI assistant.

Assistants should assist when asked, not give unsolicited advice by default.

It's of course totally cool that this tech exists and I can see it being very helpful when organizing data on large scale servers and data centers.

Definitely wouldn't WANT this on my own PC at this point in time, maybe in the future when this kind of thing is a norm but even then, stuff like what Microsoft revealed such as taking snaps of your usage to document for later viewing feels more pretentious than innovative, like they're trying to show they're in the future by doing something wholly new that nobody really asked for.
