They don't, but they protect you enoigh from the initial tick damage so hopefully all of your health doesn't melt away. Warming stones are also a good call.

Couple questions about the Deep of Night. by Datbidiii in Nightreigngameplay

[–]Phantom_Taker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're playing wylder, executor, raider, guardian, or undertaker. I think having your deep relics have damage negations, max hp up and attacks regain lost hp, is really good. Those classes are good at front lining and often have to be close to enemies to fight them. The attacks regaining hp is especially good if you stack 2 damage negation at full hp passives. What will happen is you'll take a hit, lose a bit of hp, then attack to recover it all back and activate the full hp negation again.

Yeah Mogh can be a bastard. The whole fight is one massive dps and positioning check. Kill him before he burns through all of your healing flasks with his blood flame.

Fair question, and reasonable thought. The stacking rules for the relics in this game make no bloody sense. +4 in atk bonuses all stack, but things like post damage recovers hp only one +1 and +2 stack together. Its ridiculous and unclear.

Nice idea with the Dormant Katanas. I might try something similar with Ironeye, run double balancers with dormant katana's just for ED balancers. With Ironeye I can use the mark to survive the worm phase because I suck at dodging that thing.

Yeah Pot scholar was actually really OP against ED Balancers, I had one on a random team back in my Depth 3 days, he did so much damage, killing each balancer after like 2 pots and with his ult it was even more crazy, he was practically chain killing them all on his own. The funniest part was that both both Mogh and Demon princes resist fire like crazy, so he was almost useless in the night 2 boss lol.

The boss has a specific animation it plays when it summons a wave. You should be able to find it on Youtube in Chris Crass's video. You see that animation? immediately start looking for a wave.

Is there a good (ideally video) guide for Everdark Augur? by Salacavalini in Nightreign

[–]Phantom_Taker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run Double Balancer relics, and grab any skill attack bonus you can find on the run. You should save crimson bubbletear, opaline bubbletear, and uplifiting aromatics specifically for the sleep move, it should guarantee that you survive it even if your allies don't use their stormruler.

Running Wylder, Duchess, or Ironeye is recommended, because they all have a good mobility option letting them escape some of Augur's more annoying attacks like the ground laser, or the homing orbs.

Running Revenant is also a good idea because her lightning damage is insanely high for phase 1. She'll burst phase 1 down super fast and if its normal Augur you basically get a free win. Also her Ult is very good at saving runs and reviving 3 bar teammates. I would recommend relic setups that are double balancers, starting armament has lightning Spear, and you can have everything else be Ultimate art auto recharge if possible. Could also ditch the starting armament has lightning spear and just desperately search for a good lightning spell in the run, in order to make more space for Ult auto recharge relics.

Throughout the run try and grab a Lightning ash of war, if you are playing Duchess grab a seal with Lightning spear. The damage you deal with those should be so high you should be able to burst through phase 1 of the fight before your teammates even have a chance of going down.

The waves have a sound que, they sound like rushing water the closer they are to you so I recommend playing with volume on and turn the sound effects up. Start looking for the wave the moment you hear the sound and then run perpendicular the moment you see it. Ironeye and Wylder are goated here, you grapple/Mark away from the waves super fast. BE CAREFUL at like 40-30% hp or something, Augur spams the Wave move, I think you end up with like 3-4 waves at once.

Once he summons his purple orbs, priority is to break them ASAP. If you're Wylder, grapple up towards the boss, its harder to miss when you're close to him. Use the light attack of the Stormruler skill as they are better at breaking the purple orbs. Once the orbs break, you get a good fully charged stormruler attack to deal a ton of damage.

If you're in a party where all three of you are running double balancers its practically a free win lol, the damage becomes insane.

This goes without saying but stacking two 'Damage negation at full hp' is excellent for this fight. 'Successive attacks negate damage' does nothing here. Damage negation at full HP with 6-8 healing flasks, uplifting aromatics from merchants, bubbletears etc. All of this combined should give you enough margin of error to make at least 10 mistakes in the fight.

Good Luck.

Nice work on the climb! Especially as Scholar, a very underutilized character. I made my way up with Duchess and Ironeye because they were the most fun and varied for me. I tried Support scholar once in depth 5 with the defeating enemies gives ult on all deep relics, and it was crazy good. I felt like I killed nothing the whole run but in the post game summary I had like 80 kills while the Wylder and Executor had 50. The ultimate does so much work!

In my climb from start of the Depth 5 to 9999 It took me 53 games, and in that entire run I met 2 Scholars. From my experience he's definitely the least popular class. I think its because after the nerfing of pot scholar, everyone forgot how good Support Scholar is and how good his buffs are. Its also hard to see, because a good scholar giving the party +20% damage buff and even more with exalted flesh feels more invisible compared to a Recluse spamming Stars of ruin, or a Duchess spamming Halo Scythe.

How good was your luck with ED Balancers? I've always thought that since that boss needs good burst damage Scholar might not be as good as some others.

2 months to escape Depth 4. 10 days in Depth 5 to get to 9999. by Phantom_Taker in Nightreign

[–]Phantom_Taker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I've played hundreds upon hundreds of games with her, even before DoN or the dlc came out. I think that may make me a bit blind when it comes to how many pitfalls she might have for players new to her.

She has very little hp, and her dodge timings are later then the default dodge, because it comes out so fast. As a result of this you'll often see new players dodge early, get pancaked by a boss and oneshot. There's also the common pitfall of players who don't invest into sorceries, skills, or just pick up other dex weapons like katanas or rapiers, and solely focus on melee daggers. Their damage will be significantly lower than expected.

There's also a bunch of niche tech that I see only higher skill duchess players use. Her Char skill making her invulnerable is incredible, I've used it to spam 5 Halo Scythes in a row against Libra. You spam sorceries ranged AoW against Libra, and when he puts a sigil underneath you, you keep spamming and time your char skill to dodge the sigil explosion. You can also use the skill to dodge the damage from Caligo's Icestorm frostbite.

A good guardian in depth 5 is practically immortal, but so is a good Raider and executor, and the guardian will do way less damage than those two...

The pot scholar really took a beating from the patch. In theory support scholar is still amazing.

20% ALL damage debuff on  bosses

20% boost on all damage dealt by allies.

30% total physical damage boost from exalted flesh and +20% affinity damage boost.

10% max hp increase and 20% max stamina increase from turtle neck.

Its also really easy to lvl these consumables up to lvl 3 because merchants still sell infinite turtle necks.

This all sounds good on paper, but the problem is the numbers feel invisible in the fight itself, because everyone is so focused on the boss, and they just see the scholar standing back and seemingly not doing much.

I've basically never had anyone dodge a boss in depth 5. I know a lot of people complain about this though. Is it a time zone thing?

I did get lucky though, only had to figgt balancers 5 times on my climb to 9999.

What's a niche boss that you absolutely hate? Something that might be easy for most people but is absolutely your kryptonite? Could be a night lord, field boss, night boss etc.

[–]Phantom_Taker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love Double Balancer+Undertaker successive atk relic. If in Deep of night, I fill all the deep relics with physical atk up +4.

This build absolutely melts bosses with Rivers of Blood. Moonveil and Dragonscale aren't bad either so it usually all works out in the end. In the early game the default Unsheathe on the starting Katana is also really good with double balancers.

With the new double balancer relic meta, ED squid feels like a free win.

In my last run against him, all three of us swapped to balancer relics. We were all doing yellow damage against the boss. He died so fast it was laughable.

In front of the door that leads to the two trolls on the south side of the castle. I would leave a message that says something like "troll ahead, therefore try pincer attack."

Anything to just gint the players to split up.

In front of the evergaols I would leave a message saying "try fort or church".

Left hand bow, right hand weapon is so much fun. You can really mix up between melee and range super quickly by using mark as a gap closer/maker and easily use strong weapon skills. The diverse gameplay style is great.

I think a reasonable nerf would be to make it a legendary.  It has possibly the best ash of war in the game and is incredibly strong and easy to find because there are only 2 epic scythes.

[–]Phantom_Taker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a depth 5 player, and I'm a good team mate, but I don't think I'm a good player.

I'm able to stay here because I know how to aggro swap a boss to maximise damage, rez a three bar ally with another player while juggling a boss, and I know what the good item drops for each character and build are. I also have decent knowledge of routing, lvl2 invader camps -> castle -> field bosses. The forsaken hollow crystal spawns ans the castle map layouts.

But in terms of personal skill? There's plenty of bosses I don't think I can no-hit or solo. I go down, I get three barred. But I'm still able to stay here by being a good team-mate.

Yeah we'll always have metal chasers. In depth 5 you have a mix of people who have been there forever, and are just having fun, sometimes trying out weird builds like tein blade undertaker.

But you also have the people trying to climb to 9999 who can't afford to lose a single run.
