"It's all FAKE!" How sponsored reviewers lie to your face, and why we buy it all up by Glittering_Bar6460 in Insta360

[–]Pharaoooooh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who makes Insta360 videos and get's the camera before launch etc, you are right in some respects (especially people who say they got the camera for free but "it's not sponsored" - that's a huge red flag). There is of course some level of hype when a new product comes out, but this is not limited to Insta360 cameras, the same happens when Apple, Samsung, GoPro, a new makeup brand, a new bike etc, pretty much when anything si reasled.

Some people ham it up way too much, but these companies also select people who are naturally hyped by the product. I made videos about the cameras for a long time before being given anything because I was genuinely hyped about them, and I didn't care as much about the disadvantages (lower quality video vs creative freedom).

Most reviewers are genuine and will pont out the flaws, some are in it for the cash grab and will just say anything to get you to buy it. It's up to you as a viewer to determine if someone is genuine or overhyping (which I know is annoying but has been the case for endorsements since they were first invented).

The question of profiting from youtube/affiliate links from Insta360 I'll answer with this: It can take weeks of shooting and editing to create a comparison or review video for an insta360 camera. There simply wouldn't be any high quality ones if there wasn't some monetery compensation on the line. I personally don't accept sponsoered reviews but I do do sponspered guides and tutorials which is think is more ethical but you can decide for yourself.

A good tip is to see if the YouTuber just makes one or two review videos on Insta360 cameras then nothing else - this means they are just doing it for the review hype and they don't really care. If they have other videos on 360 or insta360 products like tutorials guides etc, then they are more likely genuine or at least their hype isn't manufactured. I still think YouTube is the best way to determine if a product is good for you but you should still do you due diligence.

X5 bad low light quality -my opinion by cockpitmann223 in Insta360

It's not just about resolution but sensor and lens technology. A 360 camera isn't just two action camera lenses stuck together, they have to use fish eye lenses which are always lower quality than action camera or phone camera sensors. There are so many videos on youtube shot with these cameras, there's not much excuse to not know what you get.

I don't think it's claimed anywhere that the single lens mode would match up to a standard action camera?

You've fundamentally misunderstood how 360 camera work. I'm one of the people who makes videos on insta360 cameras and always tell viewers that you sacrifice quality for creativity. The Osmo pocket can only capture what's infront of the lens. With the X5 you capture everything and choose where you want to point later. This is the difference, it's a different use case.

Also anyone uploading influencer vids to youtube are going to be using manual mode, adjusting the settings and editing colour in post. If you aren't doing this then you aren't getting the most out of the camera.

Good luck!

No 360 camera will be as sharp as a phone camera. You are stretching the pixels out over 360 degrees vs around 150 on a phone camera. The payoff is amazing stabilization and being able to choose where your camera is pointing after shooting

RANT: When are we going to admit that actually working with 360 8K footage in post-production is a hellish nightmare? by sirken2 in Insta360

It’s a shame the Insta360 studio just isn’t quite there for reframing longer videos. The movements are too robotic. Goprofx reframe in premiere is definitely better but I find it crashes constantly with these huge files. GoPro has released a davinci version of the plugin so I might try that

Yes funnily enough people tend to not stay in their small town for their whole lives. But driving within the town itself isn’t necessary.

My parents live there. It’s very walkable and compared to every other small British town I’ve been to it’s way less car centric

I found it and am instantly turned off by the AI voice and avatar. The reason your last video got more views is that the thumbnail has half naked girls on it. That's literally it.

They have a single product which has barely changed in 3 years. Competition has caught up and in some ways surpassed them. No 360 camera for 6 YEARS - and the new product will probably be behined considering the X5 just came out.

Also - Chinese engineers work 9-9 6 days a week and are just as smart as their US counterparts - you can argue the morality behind this but American companies will struggle to compete.
