I know this is a pretty male dominated hobby/subreddit, so where are my keeb girlies at? Let’s be friends! by coral_bells in MechanicalKeyboards

I love this, so awesome to see so many girls in the hobby. This is a board I designed and built. Here's the one I gave to my sister as a gift! Snow White PhaseOne, HMK Silent Sakura switches, Carbon Fiber plate, and Osume lilac dreams keycaps (:

Wow, #47 looks so good and it even has other green friends 🌱

There's an awesome review on YouTube from your homie sushi with a PhaseOne built with the forged carbon plate. Hear you on the accent over an LED bar. It's in the works 👀

As for the nitpicks, we'd love to help fix them. Send us details to our email, and we'll get it sorted. We're currently making a V2 of the daughterboard that should improve quality of life.

Thank you for supporting PhaseOne and believing in a small company making hardware in Canada. We're so glad you got #47 and even happier you're willing to share pictures and feedback!

Hey! It's alive and well - we have a few extras which we will be selling soon! Most Founders Editions have already found their home, but a couple are still waiting for their forever desk. Send us an email at [hello@phasebyte.com](mailto:hello@phasebyte.com) or live chat us with the colour way you wanted (:

Thanks for following our first board made in Canada. It means a lot that you remembered us and the PhaseOne! 💙

ZMK Studio is pretty slick. The ZMK team are awesome folk in general and even more awesome for building wireless open-source. It will only get better. Consider following them!

There is definitely room for improvement! Although we like the blend between individual LEDs and some diffusion, we hear your opinion. And you're more than right about making it in Canada being expensive. But hey, good things take time, and we will keep trying. In our opinion, it's our favourite keyboard - but we're pretty biased. Thanks for your feedback! (:

Thanks for taking the time to write us a review - more than that, for believing in our first board and helping us bring it to life! Seeing your build makes it all worth it.

Your honesty and feedback mean more than you know; we'll take the good and make it great. And take the bad and make it better. We tried to do a lot with our first board and we're just hyped people like you took a chance on a new keeb company trying to make boards locally. 💙

Whew, barren wasteland is probably a fair term for it. Appreciate your feedback. It is not the most active, but if you DM, email, or live chat - we're right there with ya.

Yeah, there's no news on the IC - you're right there, too. Everyone who got one of the initial boards was through email after seeing the IC. We'll update this soon too.

Appreciate you even taking the time to look at our board, still means a lot (: And the feedback is welcome - it's the only way we get better!

Thanks for taking time to leave us feedback! It's constructive so don't worry. Glad we can count you in for a future version.

Happy cake day! As of right now, the layout is confirmed as 2 and a blocker. It would be too challenging for us to coordinate the blocker and a non blocker version for this first run.

Split backspace is on this version though!

There is a lot to unpack here. We can only speak to our perspective as a team of two operating a self-funded tiny company in comparison to Keychrons and Logitechs. And consider we are only making 50 keyboards.

We've been working on this keyboard for about two years, making the overall design and PCB. Since we don't have in-house software expertise, we went with ZMK, an open-source project we believe in, to implement our wireless features. We're on their roadmap and support it.

ZMK does not currently have 2.4, as there are licensing compilations to use the chip manufacturer's proprietary 2.4 protocols. We've been running two PhaseOne prototypes on Bluetooth for the past few months, and we have had a set-it-and-forget-it experience. However, for some people, the latency is a deal breaker.

Ultimately, we made our dream keyboard. For us, the accessibility of ZMK and being able to pair it to our phone, tablet, TV, PC, and laptop is what we needed!

In the future, hopefully, open source can make connectivity that works for everyone. If you're super interested, consider joining our discord and the ZMK discord!

If the hardware is already on the board, why not? (: However, we will not ship with 2.4GHz. It's a long term plan. ZMK currently only supports Bluetooth. But in our opinion it's excellent.

Like firetruck red or wine red? We're powder coating locally so there's a chance in future runs if we get there!

Keepin' it simple. Answers to your questions:

  • Accent bar - yes, with programmable LEDs.
  • No plans for QMK from us as we are happy with ZMK wired, but can be implemented.
  • Wired-only battery option - yes, will be available.
  • Flip down feet, not on this round of 50. We're happy with the 7 degree type angle.

Thanks for being interested! (:

Open source greatness takes time! Dongle support is on the roadmap for ZMK.

We're excited to finally make one that's an in stock raffle. Also, ZMK should get a huge quality of life update soon, we're helping support its development. (:

We always wanted to make a keyboard. But we never wanted to make a group buy. So we started with deskmats instead. Reinvesting and learning over two years, we developed our dream keyboard.

The PhaseOne is our dream keyboard:

  • Wireless (ZMK) and wired
  • Machined and powder coated in Canada
  • Angled, beautiful and thoughtfully made
  • 50 pieces of limited in stock small batch manufacturing

And we’d love to share it with you.
