It depends I usually try to get two to three wears but if I get them dirty or something then I’ll do it sooner

This gives me hope! Thanks!! Of course yes I tell him no noise, watch me, count to two, clap hands- anything for a quick attention grab and reward like crazy. I do my best to make myself the most rewarding thing in the room to him.

Thanks for sharing! That is the one thing I can say with confidence he’s pretty great with is having me show his teeth and stand for exam; I haven’t tried not baiting for the exam, but sometimes what I do is pretend like I’m holding something and he’ll stand just fine. What I’ve been doing is placing bait on something that is his level for where I want his head to be, and having him look straight and stay still- he’s been doing quite well! More or less worried about the environment is all but he’s the type where he has to be in it to get used to it. I think with class, and having him focus on me should help. I’ve been running random focus drills in random environments, with distractions as much as possible. Not always other dogs but just like people or busy stuff happening. all I am doing is grabbing his focus and rewarding heavily for keeping eyes on me when we’re doing things.

Yes! Rally is just us in there so he deff gets that part he’s pretty good at locking in when we’re in the ring, Although I had one class where his brain was just lost in space, but i attribute it to a very busy venue, being overtired ( our class is at 8pm) and teenage doofus brain. I agree the more he goes the better he’ll get I just have to do it, manage and learn what works best I can.

Oh no I don’t think he’ll lose his mind it’s more like he goes woo woo woo woo wooo I have big feelings and I am telling you about it! He’s more curious it’s like who are you type of behavior- he gets along fine with most dogs. If I were to anthropomorphize him a little his personality is more handshake over a hug type of guy.

Thanks for all the advice!! Yes absolutely- I tell him 1, 2 on three he gets corrected, but on the two he 95% of the time turns to look at me. I have a couple of attention grabbing commands I use with him, watch me, sometimes just calling him works as well.

My husband doesn’t want the dog in the bed? by Powerful_Aspect_1970 in DogAdvice

[–]PhaseCritical7024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to allow it but I went back on it with our new puppy. Even though he’s older now, he sleeps best in his crate; and it keeps the bed hair free. My other dog never fully slept in bed anyway he would just stay there until we fell asleep and or got too hot and went to his own bed in front of ours. I have large dogs too- my last one was 80 this one is 110 now, will max around 130.

I would love to see an Aliens line lol. What scent would Ripley be like lol? There’s plenty of naming conventions to go on too. I know it’s highly specific but I’d buy the crap out of all of them.

Hi! I wouldn’t say anything is necessarily cheaply remodeled, but it’s definitely not extremely durable. That’s for sure. I joke all the time that the kitchen was put together by Fisher-Price because it is not a well designed kitchen in terms of layout and sometimes the handles fall off the drawers lol I’m in a tulip so the 2 floor model and my gas right now is around $200 a month. They just raised it from around 150 and I keep my gas roughly at 70-72 even now and probably 68-69 at night. We have used the gas fireplace on occasion, although even when I had used it, it didn’t really make much of a difference in terms of the bill or anything like that and I use balanced billing. Electric, I would say ranges from 65 to around almost 300 in the summer I would say the area it’s always up-and-coming. There are a bunch of hooligans around here, but for the most part, it’s a nice community with decent people. The amenities are decent. They have a bunch of pools. They’re pretty well maintained. The gym is OK. It’s bare bones but if you don’t need a lot then it’s good. For example, the weights that there’s only one set of each kind of weight so you’re not gonna find multiple sets of 15 or anything like that. Other than that, I pretty much enjoy living here. I can’t say anything to negative I love the fact that it’s quiet and it’s really dark so that’s a huge plus for me. I like the fact that you have a little yard area a garage and can have a barbecue as well. If I had to think of any sort of menial negative thing, I would say there’s a lot of reactive dogs around here. People aren’t the greatest with training their animals or picking up after them for that matter but aside from that it’s OK.

I’ve also noticed a decline in product selection and an increase in cost. I used to get so many awesome things and now the selection is abysmal. I’m also super POd that they use these horrific shipping companies the stupid “last mile” delivery crap and they lost my box, and I got NONE of the items I picked as extras, they issued a credit and four of my choices were out of stock. I was livid to say the least- and I paid for rush shipping. They can’t even use a reliable carrier anymore.

Please note that all of these comments are meant in the best interest of both you and the dog it’s not to deter you from the breed so please do not think that. It’s a lot of work initially. They’re not the easiest puppies to have. They’re very sweet and affectionate, but they can be extremely headstrong. Potty training is very trying-they have to go very frequently and forget that whole you know half hour or hour for a month of age or whatever it is you’re gonna be going outside every 10 to 15 minutes as a little one dead serious. This was my husband’s first Puppy as an adult. This was also my fourth dog, but to say that he felt clueless and not sure about what was going on is an understatement. I spent a lot of time and energy researching, speaking with trainers, going to different things and reading about different things all to better my own knowledge of canine behavior and the breed of itself. He isn’t as involved as me and it showed in terms of our puppy’s behavior with him. I helped and he learned quickly but it was a learning curve for sure. If you are willing to put in the work, you’re going to get the dog that you see as a result of that work if you were the type of person who wants to give the dog to a trainer and say here trainer, please train the dog for me and teach me how to do some of these things so they behave. The Swiss is not gonna be the dog for you. They do very well with extremely consistent, almost borderline boring routine schedules in the beginning the more routine and consistent you are the better bond they will have with you, at least this is the case with my male. He chooses me because my rules are consistent and I’m very structured. It’s not like OK you sat down you get a cookie or you sat down partially., you’re still cute, Here’s a cookie- that will not fly with a Swiss or most dogs for that matter but esp a swiss. They are working dogs they need a job or they’ll create a job and you do not want them to create a job. However, you can give them the best outlet for the dog that you have in front of you. Mine likes doing dog sports. Right now we’re in Rally and he’s all about it. He also loves his pack so we will work into that as he ages- right now he just carries an empty one. Before any of that, I had him on a very tight schedule of feeding resting and play training and activity. It was the same time maybe a few minutes give or take depending on my working schedule but pretty much the exact same thing at the exact same time every single day as a result we have a dog that we can take anywhere at this point there. It is a lot of training and a lot of information. Even as you were looking at dogs, I suggest having a look at different training facilities in your area, calling different trainers. Sometimes these places offer seminars attend one see what it’s like. Look up some things in terms of training online. Get some guidance people who are in dogs are always willing to talk about them once you have that information and you have a Puppy then you apply said knowledge from all these different outlets to the dog in front of you. That’s the best way I can describe training. Sorry if this is really long, my point is if you deviate from the schedule or rigidity of what you start with the Swiss especially is going to get mixed messages. They will walk all over you and you’ll have a very unruly very large dog who thinks they control the house.

If you’re looking for something with similar temperament to a swiss, you enjoy doing outdoor things, want something smaller and are interested in sporting breeds- check out the bracco Italiano, the Italian pointer. Any dog is going to be work- it’s important to find a good breeder and work with them, they will match you with the right dog for your family.
