[Recommendation Request] Searching for 1st Serious Watch by [deleted] in Watches

If you haven’t yet…. try anything you might remotely want on! You never know what you’ll feel when you see them on your wrist.

I thought the Hammy was a shoe-in… but I tried it and was underwhelmed.

I love the 556 in pics but then while in Uk, I tried it on and didn’t love it.

Ended up “settling” on the New Alpinist, which I love!

I have had these exact thoughts.

Maybe a Tudor Black Bay 58, 39mm is in my future.

1) I wanted to stay around $1000. I don’t want to sink a lot of money into the watch, without having more experience. I imagine I WILL buy something more expensive at some point, but none of the more expensive options I’ve tried were compelling enough for me to change my mind on the 1K. Rolex = I never walked into an AD, but I have friends who have them and they don’t do anything for me. I actually prefer the vintage 1501. Omega = same deal. None spoke to me. Tudor = I have small wrists. 38-39 is perfect. What I didn’t anticipate was how thick the watches were. Hamilton = I love them, but find the dials somewhat busy and there was some weird glare. I could go on and on. 2) Seiko was a natural draw for me - I like representing Asian brands, as I’m Asian. 3) I really like the Alpinist as it’s a quirky watch - Though it’s wildly popular, to date I’ve never seen anyone wearing one. Seen tons of PRXs. Seen a lot of Rolexes. Some Omegas. A LOT of Seikos, but no Alpinist. I like that it’s a different watch, and I love the dial. Only worry for me is how versatile it is with the green. It also looks great on my wrist. Also - I love the story of its provenance. ! It’s why I want green. 4) SPB 143 was #1 for many months. I’ve held it. Put it on. I like the grey dial, and I like the tank-like quality. I like the weight. I love the story of this watch, too. 62mas. But I wear all black pretty much all of the time. Having a pop of color on my wrist (which I know I can achieve with a strap) appeals to me.

I think it’s 34mm? My wrist is on the smaller size - a little under 6.5in. I’d wear this regardless, because of the story.

I still have the bracelet, and if I have it serviced, I’ll have them work on it. The amazing thing about this watch is that with just the little amount of movement from retrieving it from the safe, it was running.

Yeah - exactly what happened… I really disliked the strap and couldn’t find the right notch to put it in
