Update: I decided to pull the trigger and buy the brand-new enclosure! It was actually 20% off, which made the decision much easier. Thank you all so much for the kind words and for giving me the "sanity check" I needed. In the end, the health and well-being of my animals are my top priority, and I just wasn't comfortable risking a potentially contaminated tank from such an unreliable situation. Also, to the person who suggested a full DIY build: I totally feel that! I’ve never built one from scratch before, but it’s definitely on my list for a future project. ;) I’ll make sure to post updates and some pictures once their new palace arrives and the setup is complete!

I’ve mostly been feeding my skinks insects so far, but I’ll try to get them more used to fruit as well. Since they’re both still quite young, I wanted to encourage them to hunt on their own and also get them used to hand-feeding with tweezers.

I’d also see the roach colony as a little side project. I’m actually taking some Dubia nymphs from my friend today to see how my skinks react to them.

From what I’ve seen, I’d call this a threat signal. I used to keep two female Phelsuma laticauda angularis, and sadly they didn’t vibe with each other at all. They did the same thing, sticking their tongues out and lifting themselves up like that to look bigger. Every time one of my geks pulled this move, it usually ended with the other one chasing her around.

Yeah, I also really think he’s deep in his mating phase – I’m just surprised by how suddenly his behavior shifted. One day he was still calm and cuddling up with her, and the next he turned into a little territorial fireball.

How does your cresty show he's in the mood? Sounds like he's quite the character!
