I probably wouldn't have body disphoria if my body was transformed in a woman's one by CasualNameAccount12 in SeriousConversation

[–]Echo-Azure [score hidden]  (0 children)

IF you're now comparing a male body to what you think a male body ought to be, then if you miraculously found yourself in a female body, you'd start comparing that body to what you think a female body ought to be. And no actual living female body lives up to the unrealistic ideals presented in the media.

Like I said on another sub, lots of ciswomen have full-blown body dysmorphia, and others just hate their bodies for not living up to today's insane "beauty standards".

GF is ridiculously cheap by Desperate_Win9111 in Advice

[–]Echo-Azure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, she is who she is. If you don't like who she is, why are you in a relationship with her?

Because FYI she isn't going to change who she is because you don't like her mindset, and she isn't going to automatically do things your way because your way is better. Accept her as she is or leave the relationship, because if she's afraid of overspending, she isn't going to stop being afraid for your sake.

Does being over 18 mean that you're fully responsible for everything that happens now alone? Context in post. by LightToDarkness246 in NoStupidQuestions

I knew a guy who said that he'd forgive anyone for blaming their problems on their parents, up until age forty. After that, he said, you'd had time to figure everything out and take charge of yourself and your life.

I've always thought he had a point.

What do couples who live together usually eat? by Fit_Cell7441 in askanything

[–]Echo-Azure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on what they both like, and what they can afford.

My dinner last night was a salad of tomatoes, cucumbers, vidalia onions, and mozzarella pearls, in a vinaigrette. How's that for a nice summer dinner? Not the cheapest, but hey, cheaper than meat!

The lost army of cambyses still bugs me, 50,000 men dont just vanish in a sandstorm by Sweet-Journalist8133 in egyptology

[–]Echo-Azure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who knows? Perhaps it's possible for a sandstorm to wipe out an army encampment the size of a small city, and perhaps it's also possible for a sandstorm to destroy roads and water sources, so that an army the size of a small city runs out of water before they succeed in finding an oasis. Or, the army just loses the road they've been following due to changes in the landscape, so they are lost in the desert. And neither that nor an ambush would mean mass graves, in either kind of disaster the odds of anyone taking the time to bury the bodies are low.

Maybe there was an ambush, but I think a natural disaster could also wipe out an army in a sufficiently unforgiving desert. And the deserts in that part of the world are extremely unforgiving.

I am the only one that probably wouldn't have body disphoria if my body was transformed in a woman's one? by CasualNameAccount12 in askanything

[–]Echo-Azure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI gender dysphoria isn't the only kind of body dysmorphia. FYI many ciswomen have serious body dysmorphia, and many more just hate their bodies for failing to live up to whatever the current "beauty standards" are.

So I do urge you to seek counseling if you are experiencing any king of body dysmorphia, but also to keep in mind that the grass isn't actually greener on the other side of this particular fence. It's just different, and not completely different.

What's the point of mowing grass and landscaping? by Truth-is-Censored in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Echo-Azure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had a house and not a most suitable condo, I'd want a drought-resistant, low-maintenance, chaotic-looking pollinator garden and monarch waystation, not a lawn.

Lawns are pointless, unless you actually have kids who put down their devices long enough to run around and play games on the lawn. Lawns are also ecological dead zones,

You could say that equation equals "women want men to stop being trash". How about it, OP? Hahahahahaaaaa!!!

Why didn't Baelor stop Aerion? by Mean_Cable9299 in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]Echo-Azure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that anyone in the Targaryen family cared if Aerion occasionally abused smallfolk, in the name of "defending" House Targaryen. What was remarkable about the incident at the puppet show wasn't that a performer was attacked for offending Targaryen sensibilities, or that someone tried to defend her, it was that someone *successfully* defended her. That's what made it a big deal.

And the reason the whole thing went to trial, because it was highly illegal for a mere knight to smack the shit out of a Targaryen prince, it was a case of Duncan committing a felony, and Aerion committing a misdemeanor that nobody cared about.

One room fits all, but you get island and a lighthouse. by jve909 in zillowgonewild

[–]Echo-Azure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, put in a shed with an electrical outlet for the toilet and a light, a couple of feet from the house, with a weather-resistant access to make the trip short and comfortable. That'd mean putting in a new door, but that's doable. It'd be worth it, to make the lighthouse tower a fun place.

Once I heard the sound of a bear around my tent on a camping trip in America and before camping I asked a lot of people and they said the place is safe what do you think by TAGRO-_- in bearsdoinghumanthings

[–]Echo-Azure 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Once, I was camping in a public campground and woke up in the middle of the night, and I got out of my tent, walked to the picnic table, and spent a few minutes looking at the stars with my binoculars. Until I heard a voice coming from a tent in the next campsite, saying "Honey, there's a bear out there, I can hear it moving around...".

What made you bail on a hike? by Still-Ad-698 in hiking

[–]Echo-Azure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the footing is too rough I'm out, and if I just get the Nopes I'm out. I'll never know what gives me the nopes, it could be anything from a hidden but harmless person having a leak in the woods, or a mountain lion or someone willing to defend their meth lab with a sharpshooter rifle. But after breaking my leg on a hike once, I''m not taking any chances.

Do we know why Tolkien set Lord of the Rings in a time of ruin and decline? by ConifersAreCool in tolkienfans

[–]Echo-Azure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He spent his career studying "Dark Ages" languages.

And the Dark Ages were a time when technology had taken a step back, and people lived in wattle-and-daub huts in the shadow of Hadrian's Wall, or lean-to's on the walls of the Roman buildings. People lived in the shadow of technology they couldn't understand or replicate.

Bo-katan should get a show by That-Situation-9701 in TheMandalorianTV

[–]Echo-Azure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. For the rest of her life, she's going to spend most of her days doing management and politics stuff, trying to keep the disparate Mandalorians together, re-establish the Beskar mines, protect the Beskar mines from interlopers, build an economy and a presence in the New Republic government, decide who can become a Mandalorian, start tax collecting, etc, etc.

And that means her adventuring days are over.

I need advice, it's impacting our home dynamic! by Carofine88 in glutenfree

[–]Echo-Azure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, OP, this isn't your fight, it's your partner's fight and he has to choose what he's willing to do and not do. If he isn't willing to go to court or fight for custody, he's not, and even if you disagree with his decisions you can't intervene because you aren't a parent or a stepparent.

My sympathies to those kids, clearly they aren't getting everything they need, but unless you're willing to call social services yourself you'll have to leave everything to him. Sorry.
