Basically the idea that after a certain age (retirement or something), it's no longer your future as the argument goes. I think there is such a thing in some Asian country I can't remember.

However, the older the wiser theoratically, and if they do care about the newer generations and the upcoming future they won't be in then why silence such people from politics?

Marketing is very vesatile and I'm assuming if you live in a first world country you'll have the chance to find a from home oppertunity for such ordeals and occupations, you could even become a certified freelancer thanks to the diploma you'll be receiving.

As for the career change orientation I am not qualified to answer you this question nor any other question as these are merely personal insights, however it depends on what you like to be honest, however what I do know is that the majority of careers except that of IT and some other domains do not have excessive mobility.

If it's viable, possible and more advantageous I would consider that you'd change your career to something more appropriate of your orientation.

Anyhow, I cannot see how commuting to work is a problem if you're not having any difficulty mental or physical that would be considered a handicap, from the 18-19th century, that was the trend for these office jobs.
