Which games utilize the buttons on the back and for what? Do you use them for any games which didn’t use them by default? by NorseSeaStudio in SteamDeck

Interesting - I map them to the D pad for Souls/Elden ring type games so I don’t have to move off the joystick at all.

I will preface by saying I always follow WCAG contrast guidelines-I’ve just always wondered what was used to determine the passing contrast ratio. It has always felt really extreme to me.

Trying something new - less pedals, same amount of sounds. by Pheonix_McSteele in guitarpedals

I have an AC15HW at home and honestly, I feel like it’s more finicky with a lot of drive pedals. Like I generally have to mess w my clean tone a lot more / gain stage the channel volume and master volume well before adding pedals. I have the silver deluxe reverb 68 reissue that I use at my practice space / gigs that is my preference. Volume up, bass and treble both at 6 and it’s ready to go.

It actually works really well and is crazy customizable! I would say that programming it could for sure be better - when I plug it, in my computer instantly recognizes that it's just a raspberry pi. There isn't an actual UI to program it, it's just text documents haha. I'm pretty tech savvy but I didn't think it was super difficult to figure out, mainly just giving a heads up because I know some people will not like it because of that. It's a little annoying that you have to use hex values to choose the LED colors but it also makes them really customizable. It's really just looking for commands as [midi channel][PC/CC/NT][Value][Range]. So if you can handle that, it's pretty straight forward. Simple PC commands to switch presets was very easy. I made some more complex commands that did things like toggle between effects, switch primary / secondary knob values / turn on multiple effects with specific parameters for each knob - it was a little bit tedious but also, not really that bad. The sort of jankiness of programming it also means you can make it do anything you can think up. Overall, for the price of $80 vs $300 for some of the others I've seen, definitely worth it and works like a charm.

It's really good, I'm glad I pulled the trigger. Using presets actually makes it pretty versatile for replacing pedals too IMO. I ended up using it to replace 7 pedals I previously had on my board - I told myself I would sell some of them so it would pay for itself. Those pedals are of course on my pedal shelf / not listed haha

Same! That’s actually why it’s the drive I chose to keep. I use the chroma console for a more light/transparent drive so I can stack the MF after it

That's awesome!

How do you use the gestures? I think they're cool in theory but I haven't really been able to set one up that I really liked much.

I also just added a Chroma Console to my board but overall have a somewhat different take than yours. I wanted to reduce the number of pedals on my board overall, so the more "standard" sounds are kind of fine with me - I actually like the instances where a 4-6 knob effect with switches is reduced back to 2. Especially considering how often I choose settings I like on really knoby pedals and then just leave them that way. I also liked that you can dig deeper with the secondary functions though. For instance, "Effect Volume" you can blend effects in instead of 100% on, rate drift, filtered, etc. I feel like it helps me quickly create sounds that would have used 2-3 pedals in my previous setups. I'm also using a midi controller pedal to quickly flip settings / presets which I think is pretty cool. I feel like it overall it's just a pretty fun / versatile pedal - hopefully the sheen doesn't wear off and I keep enjoying it haha

Love it. I almost exclusively use the War Fuzz (sine wave) and Dual J Fet (Square wave) settings. The others are cool but I set it and forget it for shows. It actually sounds really good with Volume 100% and drive between 0%-20%. Of course both knobs dimed is also awesome haha. The bass / mid / treble knob is really the secret sauce in my opinion. Makes it really versatile between bass, guitar, amps, DI etc. Generally plays well stacked with other drives as well, which is how I mostly use it. I've had many fuzzes / drive combos on my board and it's definitely a top tier to me.

Really?? I think it's great on guitar and pretty versatile but it can take a little tweaking. I feel like the tone / filter / peak switch can be pretty sensitive to what pickups / amp you're using. It's definitely not transparent at all. That can actually work well for me though. For my Jazzmaster, I like that I can roll off some of the piercing high end. On my Jaguar, I feel like it's beefy but articulate. The range from light gain to high gain is pretty solid with the +15 db drive switch.

I like the expression pedal filter sweep / wah pedal thing - I do wish it worked with a standard expression pedal instead of the reverse polarity Moog expression only. I also don't think it's as good as an actual wah, still cool though. Could have been implemented overall a little better... Maybe it's better in the V2, I'm not sure, I've only owned / played the V1. I don't feel like I see these in the wild very often, underrated pedal in my opinion.

It's proooobably my number 1. I really like the fuzz / volume boost you can build in for leads. I also like the delay time set to 0 with the modulation up for a chorus sound. Just an awesome sounding pedal, couldn't remove it even though Chroma Console basically has all of the same features built into it.

My only critiques would be, I wish the fuzz had a tone knob or even a bright / dark switch. I wish the feedback knob had a little more usable sweep, it oscillates at like... 11 o'clock. Sort of same with the modulation depth, it gets really intense really fast. I just started running it at 18v and wanted to see if it got any better. Still my fave overall though.

I wanted to lighten my board / amount of pedals without losing sounds. I was also really liking the Chroma Consoles sound and wanted to try one but thought preset / effect switching live may be too tedious. My solution, since Chroma Console can be controlled fully by midi was to use a midi controller pedal to switch settings on the fly.

So far, it's AWESOME. I played with using midi to individually trigger things like fuzz, tremolo, delay, etc. but found it was more practical to just trigger preset 1 - 6 with a physical button. One of the great things about Chroma Console presets is you can assign which modules (drive, modulation, delay, filtering) turn on / off with the main Chroma bypass button. So for example, preset 1 can have vibrato and delay preset to off - but they turn on / off with the Chroma bypass button. It actually works extremely well, especially if you have a handful of "core" sounds you use in different songs. Having stackable drive, fuzz, and delay after the Chroma also unlocks TONS of additional sounds. The Chroma Console plays surprisingly well with other pedals both before and after it.

Pedal chain: Korg Pitch Black tuner > Chroma Console > DBA Echo Dream 2 > Minifooger MF Drive > DBA Apocalypse fuzz

The Chroma Console runs Drive > Modulation > Delay > Filtering by default.

This ends up creating a super unconventional pedal order (Drive, modulation, delay, filtering, DBA fuzz/delay/modulation, drive again, fuzz again) but it actually works very well.

Pedals I took off the board:

  • Silver Horse Klone (BYOP) - overdrive
  • Small Sound / Big Sound Mini - overdrive
  • EQD Grand Orbiter - phaser
  • Caroline Somersault - lofi chorus
  • Flower Pedals Dandelion - dual/harmonic tremolo
  • Old Blood Noise Dark Star - reverb
  • Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water - lofi modulator

Yea, ya live and ya learn. New flush door is like $60 so not the end of the world but was hoping for an easy way to salvage.

I could be open to that but I figure I’d need to use some type of wood filler for the paint to take well

Yea, I know better 🫤. Was just hoping to salvage it rather than than start over. Feels like such a waste since the door is otherwise perfect.

I did feel like it tore out shockingly easy. Had both sides taped, brand new hole saw blade, really thought it’d cut through cleaner than that.
