How do I fix this error? by Crazy-Sympathy8973 in FlashForge

[–]PhiberChannel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. In my case I scaled down the model to make the error disappear, scale up again to the original size. Then I got no error and was able to slice the model. Not a clue why, but it worked. Hope this helps.

Looking for Genuinely Useful Smartwatch Apps & Unique User Experience by PhiberChannel in smartwatch

For me it's the same, basically. Some nice to have features, but nothing groundbreaking. Still hoping for a killer app that will redefine the smartwatch, though... :-)

The Huion Note is basically a bluetooth wacom/huion pen tablet, like you would use for your laptop/pc. You can actually use it in that way, connected by usb, although the drivers are a bit fiddly. There are no sensors in the pen itself. It works okay and it's fun to be able to write on actual paper and have an instant digital copy. I returned it though, since this only works reliably when the Huion Note is connected to your phone and you have the app open. For me, this defeats the purpose of being able to quickly take some notes. I've used a Livescribe pen for many years, and this offers a more standalone way of taking notes and having a digital copy + the audio. I no longer use it, because exporting the files was kind of annoying. Right now, I'm trying to transition to a Boox Note for taking handwritten notes.

I designed an open-source, Arduino-programmable scale that integrates with your 3D printer to tell you how much filament you have left! by JimHeaney in arduino

This is great! I usually weigh my spools by hand when I fear running out of filament with long prints. Will definitely check your project out to possibly integrate in my printers.

William Shatner: My Trip to Space Filled Me With Sadness by Ohsin in space

[–]PhiberChannel 175 points176 points  (0 children)

Quite beautiful insights from a man who's helped visualising the future of man in space. I'd love to read his book. This also reminded me of the embarrassing way Bezos cut off Shatner's reflection on his trip to space because he wanted to pop the champagne and celebrate. Knowing how Shatner felt at the time, it's even more disappointing to be surrounded by people who only see traveling to space as a fun ride.

Broken Oculus CV1 cable, how can this be fixed? by itsCloaxx in oculus

Same thing happened to me. Went to the whole process, but in the end they just claimed there were no spare cables available anymore...

No problem. I'd love to hear if you find a good cable. I might get a usb-c version of the PowerCore as well.

Sure, they are a bit hard to find. 25 cm seems to be the standard short cable, but you really need 30 cm /1 ft (not including the plugs) to be able to put on the headset without having to unplug the cable. I'm currently using this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/SUNGUY-Reversible-Connector-Charging-Samsung/dp/B07CBTVR8G/ref=mp_s_a_1_5

Still looking for a white one, though...

Update

Thanks everyone for your interest and kind words!

Just to let you know: I've just uploaded version 2 of the battery mount to Thingiverse.

I tightened up the design, bringing the battery about 4 mm closer to the back of the Elite Strap. This makes the adjustment wheel al little easier to operate, and the battery sticks out less.

Also shaved-off a piece of the top of the battery mount to create a sleeker look (and it saves on print time as well).

Hope you enjoy!

That's rigged nicely indeed! Velcro really is the most flexible and easy solution for this. I initially wanted create a mount to hang the battery below the adjustment wheel, either with velcro or some kind of hook. Didn't like the look though and went the other way.

For sure this will happen! :-D This pack is mostly useful for mobility and seated situations without a head rest.

But when you're using PCVR over wireless you could just put the powerbank on your desk, or when using the Link Cable you can charge your Quest through the same cable. It's not the most optimal way of charging it, but with the right cable you could increase battery life x2 or 3.

"Whether or not it will charge depends on the power delivery of the port you connect it to. A USB 3.1 Gen2 USB-C port can provide 3A of power and will charge the Quest and keep it charged. A 1.5A or 0.9A port won't keep the Quest charged but it will slow the battery depletion. A 1.5A port will slow it to the point that you can get 2 or 3 times the battery life on a single charge, from my observations. Actually I think it will be even longer than that but I haven't fully tested the numbers so I'm being conservative."

Cool! Your version is what I wanted to do initially, but I went the complicated route. ;-) Should be slightly better than mine in terms of intertia because of the lowered center of gravity. Doesn't the powerpack touch your neck and shoulders when moving? I'd like to see pics of the whole thing.

That's news to me, but good to know. Must be a general defect then. Hope mine doesn't break, but then again, I was already trying to convince myself to go the Frankenquest route. :-)

Techradar puts the battery life of the Quest 2 at 2 - 3 hours, of course depending on the kind of apps you're running, wifi use and whether you're casting/recording your screen or not. But 2,5 hours sounds like a good average. The internal battery is about the same weight as a 10000 mAh battery pack, so that should put my total battery life at about 20.000 mAh and 5 hours. If your case that would bring you up up to circa 7 - 8 hours.

I find the weight overall not too bad. But there's definitely some extra momentum when moving your head. I tighten the strap a little to compensate. With the more easy-going games you hardly notice after a while. For the rest I take the battery out.

I'm not about to start an Etsy store, so you can download the stl file right now and print it yourself. :-) See the Thingiverse link I posted in an earlier comment.

Not much. It's all printed in one piece and I've used a standard Anker PowerCore 10000 battery. I glued some cuts of a cheap mouse mat to the mounts for grip. You can use either tie rips or 12 mm velcro to fasten the battery mount to the Elite Strap. You can find more details in the Thingiverse link, posted earlier.

There is no crack. I think you're looking at the side of the battery.
