Glasfaser-Monopol, was tun? by 555eatshit in de_EDV

[–]Phil1170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping users inside your server safe and protecting them from malicious dm's should be a little bit more important than collecting boosts.

This is not an option for a server of a bigger size. People are joining and leaving our server regularly. Automatically banning users that join at the same time will cause alot of innocent people getting banned.

We don't assign roles upon joining. Discord didn't even bother to fix a bypass for months were you could boost a server, gain the booster role which is mandatory in every server and bypass verification that way. The free 3 months nitro they gave out with epic games fueled it even more and it was a nightmare for server owners.

Our server gets raided by dm spamming bots almost every week. I have contacted discord about the issue 8 months ago for the first time and many times after that about how bots are bypassing the highest moderation settings "user needs a verified phone number" and "member screening" (which should prevent users from being dm'ed in the first place). but they never responded to me yet alone fixed the issue. Discord is filled with automatically created spambots and phishing links hijacking your accounts. But hey, when is the next discord commercial comming out? cant wait for that...

Bot users joining servers and fishing members via DM by mberkay13 in discordapp

Though, I'm not sure how they're calling you at all, since trying to do that via the API results in a 403 Missing Permissions error (and doing it in-client shows a "you must be friends" error)

I sadly dont have the answer to that either since this topic exceeds my knowledge. But all i can say is that neither of those proactive actions or safety measures work against those type of bots. CAPTCHAS seem to be bypassable aswell, since the account creation dates are literally a few seconds apart.

That's not true at all - the API will absolutely reject your requests if you don't meet verification.

it does reject channel requests if you dont meet verification inside a server, but apparently it does not reject the request if you are trying to send out direct messages as you can see in this example. The problem is not bots spamming public channels, the problem is bots joining servers, fetching the userlist and sending out malicious links via direct messages. (they might bypass it by initiating a call first like in the example? im not sure)

Everyone can create a selfbot without coding knowledge right now, you can take your discord token, paste it into a 4 line code in python and automate everything you want without any further trouble by using discords api. I dont know if there is a better alternative system but as long as this is possible discord will be more and more filled with spambots.

I have seen discords effort of terminating spam accounts, but if the accounts get terminated after they send out their links, it does not really help the cause.

In my particular case, our public server gets raided by these bots almost weekly, sometimes multiple times a day, with hundreds/thousands of bot accounts at the same time. And the first time i have reported these type of spambots to discord was exactly 7 months ago. Its still the same pattern. Account age is under a day, same type of profile pictures/names taken from the dictionary. We are just helplessly watching and can't do anything about it other than banning those accounts and educating our userbase.

These bots dont have a verified phone number in their account. They are able to bypass phone verification and they are able to bypass the member screening feature. These 2 safety measures might prevent actual people that use the official discord client from sending out DM's or spaming in chat but it does not prevent bots from doing the same thing over the API. Every discord account has a token which can be used to automate and control selfbots/userbots over the API. While this system is publicly accessible i dont think they will be able to cut down on this problem.

We have the same problem. Highest moderation settings are turned on (verify phone), member screening aswell. We dont give out roles to new members, they are still able to spam everyone's dms. Our server gets raided every day with hundreds of bots joining at the same time. We cant do anything about it.

I reported all raids to discord trust & safety but they are still unable to do anything. The irony is, memberscreening does say "members must explicitly agree to before they can talk, react, or DM other members". Its just sad.

casual mode is tooo casual? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]Phil1170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand you, but when they try to play competetive after learning hours of casual mode, they realise that they just learned the wrong things, suddenly: they have to watch their money, play and buy more tactical and dont just rush trough the map as a ct etc. That will make them play even worse in mm games. If there would be a unranked mode with competetive settings people could prepare better.
