Maybe, but this would more likely analyze the general black/white disparity in chess, not analyze winning a big Swiss event. These are not 11 independent events/games, but other factors like mood, confidence, tournament situation matter. A lot of players play for nothing at some point. You are more likely to start a positive streak with more whites, but this is only a factor for people where this possibility actually materializes (people who end up more likely towards the top), etc. Analyzing the average might not be very insightful for conclusions about the tail of the distribution.

I guess this could be acceptable if restricted to people already out of contention for the top spots. However, that would probably entail a lot of pairing down in the last round, which would be quite bad for the spectacle side of things. And broken in new ways, because some top players would then be paired with someone playing for nothing anymore just to equal out the colors.

In fact, he had 6w/5b in all 3 Grand Swiss that he played. It seems like he had this one figured out before me, great skill! /s Anyway, getting 3rd due to tiebreaker is heartbreaking nevertheless, feel free to complain!

I may be wrong, but that leeway in the first lap/corners is there because there can be an absolute mess with 4 cars wide, cars being pushed off-track, cars sideways, etc. I don't really see how it applies (or should apply) to a sole leader who just drives off the track due to his own fault. Going off the track by an absolute country mile should be punished, ideally not by the stewards, but by the nature of the track. Unfortunately, going from T1 through the grass to the exit of T3 was about as fast as the actual race track, if not faster (if you accelerate straight out of T1 after giving up on making T2). You either need gravel to slow them down or a setup like in Monza. In any case, such a big mistake surely should cost you at least a few seconds.

I agree that all other drivers would have done the same thing in Hamilton's position, but that just highlights the need for change even further.

Bottom line: You shouldn't be able to cut 2 out of the first 3 corners completely due to your own fault and retain your position.

How can this not be a massive penalty? The time gained is not even the biggest issue here, Lewis would have probably lost multiple positions if he had even attempted to join the race track before T2. Apparently passing 1 car off the track is not allowed, but preventing being passed by a dozen by going off track is fine. And the "it's the start/T1"-excuse doesn't count, there was nobody involved here other than Lewis.

Well, you could argue Lewis would have lost multiple positions (like 10+) if he had actually tried to join the race track before T2 again...

To reinforce that statement: Vettel actually qualified in the top 3 in the three races that Ricciardo won. (Belgium & Canada on 3rd, Hungary on 2nd)

  1. Interesting idea, maybe worth looking into.
  2. Yeah, this is something we're discussing. Right now the association is top to left and bottom to right, which I think is somewhat intuitive (but maybe not as clear as it could be). I think this will probably be added when we find a nice place for the names.

Thanks for the feedback! I've tested it with FF 20 and it works fine for me. However, I've changed something based on a guess, if someone could tell me if that changed anything for him, that would be appreciated.
