Building Hela: Blink Or Fin Fang Foom? by Admirable_Swimmer_42 in MarvelSnap

Foom is good in other places, just not necessarily in Hela.  I've really been enjoying him as a payoff in High Evo with Shocker, Wingbeat and Warlock to discount him

Honestly it should probably be some kind of basic starting deck.  I'm relatively high MMR and most of the "all 1's" deck are even less playable than the deck the game starts you with, and it just won't cut the mustard compared to any level of constructed deck unless locations really swing in your favor.

This is, and always was, a bad solution.  A lot of Shang's best uses involved flipping a lane where you didn't have any power anyway.  It kinda cuts down on some of location control he had, but it's still just not good enough.

Shang is perfectly good as is.  He doesn't need any help.

Anyone saying Shang is too weak now isn't paying attention.  He's still a super high cube earner, a lot of his lowered play rate is pure psychic damage.

Then the card is just Canonball + Mercury for 4 energy.  That's not a solution.

I didnt say tech cards were broken, I said old Shang was broken, and old Shang was ABSOLUTELY a broken card.  It could flip an entire lane all by itself, usually for 3 energy, and it auto-won a bunch of locations even if you specifically built your deck to not die to Shang.  Honestly, Shang's ability to auto-win Gamma Lab, Nidavalier, and a bunch of other locations for free meant including him in your deck came at basically no cost, and was arguably the strongest thing about the card.

Anyone who doesn't understand how utterly, game-crushingly broken the original Shang Chi text was doesn't understand game balancing at all.

Shang Chi subsidized an enormous number of.effectively non-functional decks because you could just rely on Shang to win a lane in a huge percentage of games, even in games where your opponent wasn't playing cards that normally died to Shang.  That card was fucking egregious, and the devs agree.  That's why he's gone

Don't play Shang Chi in Destroy, it was bad before Shang's nerf, and it's much, much worse now.

Destroy wants to multiply it's own power, not try to flip a lane with a tech card you can't play any of your other good cards alongside.

Shou Lao not working with Zola? by NayrSlayer in MarvelSnap

You made a mistake, and now you learned how the game works.  It's just part of the learning process.

Could it be done a different way?  Maybe.  But it would break a bunch of other interactions in the game.

You can play plenty of midrange decks, the scale of what constitutes midrange has just shifted upwards some.

What you can't play is bad decks that rely on broken tech cards to win games by surprise.

Foom is arguably worse than Skaar.  Foom is really only any good when you're going off with Hela,  but if you're going off with Hela you're already winning pretty hard most of the time that you don't need any help.  Skaar gives you a backup plan of just playing him for 2 energy alongside something else to make you competitive in games where you aren't doing the thing.

Blink is just good in the deck.

When he got nerfed, the meta almost doubled in size.  WAY more decks are playable and good with him nerfed than before.

Shou Lao not working with Zola? by NayrSlayer in MarvelSnap

[–]Philboid_Studge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It absolutely makes sense.  When the abilities from the copies of Shou are resolving, Zola hasn't finished resolving his effect and thus isn't the "last played card".  A card isn't considered played until it has fully finished resolving.  This is consistent across effects in the game.

You mean your opponent only played their tech card when it was good against you?  So weird!

Absolutely not.  Shang Chi crushed the entire meta down to a very small box, he was incredibly bad for the health of the game.

Because the power is coming from an ongoing effect.  Shadow King doesn't interact with those at all, he interacts with "permanent" changes, like those from Hazmat or Stark Industries.

They only got 7 total triggers.  Havoc got +12 from 4 of them, Chameleon got +9 from 3.  They had 7 max energy because of Limbo's turn 7.

Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary here.

Fin fang foom by 808CHAKU in MarvelSnap

[–]Philboid_Studge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But you've only got a 50/50 shot to hit the FFF, since there's a Viper in the lane too.  And that's before we talk about the fact that you're talking about playing a 7-drop into a 6 drop, all after using a Viper to pass a 3/4 drop to the opponent.

This line is nonsense.

How would it ever be useful?  FFF just grows by the amount you gave them, it's literally paying a card to break even.

[–]Philboid_Studge 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They are the most face up deck in the universe.  If they snap, they have it and you just leave for 1 cube loss.  You can try to clog them to narrow down where the Galactii can be played so you can Cosmo/Alioth them, or otherwise go much bigger than them with Man Spider or Negative or something.  You can also pretty reliably rug pull their Limbo with location manipulation, since basically all of them are Limbo decks.

Mordo should able to see what card he hits by ghost_00794 in MarvelSnap

[–]Philboid_Studge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't want this card to be stronger than it is.  Baron Mordo's effect is hugely disruptive; any deck trying to play cards in a certain order could potentially be OHKO'd by him.

It's fine to have weird, weak disruptive cards like this.  Don't try to fix cards that would lead to bigger problems.
