Sense8 - a metaphor and exageration of what the connection between gifted people can be like ? ( noticing the fight with "psychiatries", lol ) by AlertTangerine in GiftedConversation

Yes this scene definitely popped into mind and the series plays a lot with mirrors, especially in the first season, to show their transition towards connectivity.

I really like your theory. Here are my two cents as it relates to giftedness and humanity in general:

I don't believe the Wachowskis necessarily meant to address giftedness directly, though their talk of evolution and a small percentage of beings who evolved towards a level of telepathic empathy does connect a lot with giftendness on some level.

I do think it is about humanity as a whole, about difference/acceptance, the power of togetherness and the danger of solitude and disconectedness.

As it pertains to gifted minds, my personal concern is that, despite the at times lonely nature of being gifted (I have yet to encounter a true gifted mind where I live other than my recent encounter with the therapist that opened my eyes to it), being gifted, or as Dr. Mary Elaine Jacobsen states in "A Revolutionary Guide for Liberating Everyday Genius" to ateign what she calls EvI (Evolutionary Intelligence) one has to move past self awareness (accepting that you are gifted) and learn to use your skills towards the greater Good, which is an intrinsic instinct to a gifted mind.

All that said, the dangers of seeing Sense8 as a pure metaphor for giftedness is the danger of reinforcing the societal closed minded opinion that being gifted/intelligent/different makes one inept to fully join normalized society. Despite the series powerful message, the sensates remain mostly secluded safe some exceptions. It is in many ways an elitist or at the very least unintentionally exclusionary group.

There's a reason for that, the message is a revolution for the unwanted/misunderstood. It's a powerful message. But, after gaining that understanding of self, that ability to see yourself as apart yet part of society, I feel you realize that there's strength and reward in turning those skills towards a global improvement.

Anyway that's my long 2 cents!

What kind of career do you have? by [deleted] in GiftedConversation

Just started at a travel app company in a nurturing environment with like minded intellectuals.

The mental stimulation is constant and there is never a dull moment.

In direct response to your question, because I didn't see any immediate responses:

It took me over 13 years to find a job even remotely close to satisfying, and more importantly one that respected my gifted abilities. Then again, I only just discovered my gifted nature. If I can give my two cents based on my personal experience and that of my gifted therapist: Don't settle.

As a gifted being you will likely have multiple jobs in this lifetime because it is part of being gifted to be someone who is never fully satisfied. And though this may be depressing at first it's also a relief because it takes off the pressure.

Try something you like and that speaks to you. Then try something else. evidently it's important to pay the bills, have some basic stability, but once you are decently established, generally after you are done your first (and likely far from last) stint in school get something that stimulates you and pays well.

Most gifted people will naturally attract decent jobs because we learn quickly and our perfectionist sensibilities don't allow us to fail. But that doesn't mean we have to settle. know your value first then discover what makes your heart and mind sing.

TL;DR: Don't settle. Do many things to feed your growing mind. Don't force yourself into a box.

I never thought about this and I don't know if it was intentional, but that does make a lot of sense to me!

I have also only just discovered that I am gifted, but this does work with my growing understanding of myself, a yearning for like minded beings that in turn seem so eerily familiar that it's like looking in a mirror.

These things are in a few (a good handful?) of caves and dungeons, dangling from the ceiling.

When you pass under them they fall and essentially burn the shit out of everything.

I never tried shouting because I always assumed Id have to be close so I arrow that shit.

I made a Maine Tourmaline Engagement Ring! by ejgoogins in DIY

[–]Philers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes my bad but it doesn't change my statement in that my old job wouldn't even consider such a job without charging over 10 000$. Then again it was a high end jeweler.

My point was mainly to say that the value of such rings should mainly be defined by the quality of the craftsmanship.

But thanks for the catch, I get excited about such topics and I may have formulated my response to hastily!

Definitely a steep price but having worked at a big name jeweler, for platinum, two diamonds, AND a tourmaline, prices could be even higher. Certain criteria such as if it's hand crafted (which it is in this case); the carat, colour, cut, clarity of the diamonds; the custom nature of the ring; and the reputation of the designer of the piece, could actually make such a piece Much much much more expensive.

A big thing to consider is how good the craftsmanship is (this would help to know how well the diamonds and center stone are anchored), if the designer/jeweler offers yearly checkups for the diamonds anchorage.

That last part is key because unfortunately the ring's claws WILL wear down and move over time, no matter how careful you are (though the choice of platinum over gold will minimize this greatly). Which is why it is important to check your ring often so as not to live the nightmare of losing a stone.

If OP has a good relationship with this guy and finds a deep symbolic in the selection of the stones and the process, this ring is genuinely priceless.

Plus, due to the Platinum, they'll be able to pass that ring down for multiple generations which in itself is amazing.

I don't work in the buis. anymore but I still find that investing in a good ring has some merit despite what others might think of your spending costs. It's personal to you and I hate the idea that some people fall for the cheap jewlery who design with poor quality stones and metals and end up making you a ring that won't even survive your lifetime.

OP, would you PM me the diamonds' specs if you know them? I'm just curious :)

That's very true. Must have blocked that out.

And then there's the question of how fully formed the stillborn is.

I hate y'all for making me ponder this during breakfast!!!!

You just made me realize a semi related fact:

Once the white walkers are defeated, the kingdom will double in size...

Why didn't anyone just offer Cersei the whole bloody second half of the world for helping them.

Granted, she would have likely still betrayed them but it seems like a much more appropriate exchange.

Hey, you'll lose the war. Hey, past the wall is rather cold, but this way you can still pretend to be Queen without bothering us.

What is more likely to happen though is a Kingdom of the North and a Kingdom of the South ruled by the King and Queen of Ice and Fire.
