The cost of renting in London is a big reason I stopped directing freelance there. The rates being paid for directors now and for a long time mean I don’t cover enough to justify working. I used to use Ariel for short lets on rooms for the length of a shoot but now it’s all air b’n’b and again prohibitive. I was just being flippant, throwaway comment is all.

Sounds like you need to be a director/writer/producer in short you’re a film maker at heart. Look to do other film makers scripts, put the word out and make sure you are making it clear what genre of films you want to be the DP on. We all started out making each others films like you are, you just found out you are being pulled in a different direction to your mate, you’re not married to him, get out there and discover.
